What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“To make the game live up to expectations, it will take a lot of time, effort and feedback. Early Access will enable full-time dev, as well as establishing a community that can help shape future iterations.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The full release of Monsterstone: Prelude, is currently scheduled for late-2023. The game will stay in Early Access, until it is good enough for a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to have the following:
  • Better progression
  • Better defined goals to persue
  • More meaningful player choices
  • More ways to spend resources
  • More upgrades
  • More levels
  • More ressource types
  • Optimization of game performance
  • Revision of UI and sound

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Monsterstone: Prelude currently features an infinite gameplay loop that cycles through 10 handcrafted levels, as well as a sample on what a story might be about, and how it would be implemented.

The core mechanics of the game are mostly in place, with a lot of the technically difficult hurdles having been dealt with.

You can freely explore the various levels at your own pace, collect resources, and invest them in completion of quests, as well as upgrade your ability to harvest resources faster. Depending on the quest, you can receive access to a processing building, which opens up access to level-specific production chains, passive income buildings, like a mine, or straight up resources to be used in your progression. You can also “save” up to 5 completed levels, which lets you “freeze” them in place, so that they are available at any time, until you swap them out.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Expect the price to increase, as the game transitions out of Early Access into a full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Anyone is free to discuss the current and future state of the game on either the Steam discussion forum, the official Discord server, as well as other platforms.”

About This Game

Monsterstone: Prelude is a 3rd person adventure game, where you explore levels from a top-down perspective, collecting resources and invest them. Upgrade your tools to become more efficient, and complete quests to unlock useful buildings and other rewards. Traverse beautifully handcrafted levels to acquire the means of progressing from one to the next, and save completed levels as a bookmark you can return to later.

Exploit to progress

Harvest a myriad of different resources that come in different types, rarities and tiers and build up your stockpile for later.

360 exploration

Freely explore everywhere through a 3rd person, birdseye view. Locate quests, hidden goodies, and level-specific resources across anything from flat, to vertical levels.

Upgrade your tools

Upgrade the tools at your disposal, in order to exploit levels more efficiently, and improve what you unlock as you play.

Take out the baddies

The various monsters that inhabit the world can be taken out in order to get resources, but also to build up your streak counter. Sometimes, resources alone won't be enough to progress.

Saved levels are temporary, revisits are eternal

Found a useful level that you might need for later? Save it into one of your 5 save slots, which will remove it from the level rotation, and lock it in place. Cast it back into the void later, in order to replace it with another level that is more useful at the time. Sometimes, you might need something that cannot be found in the current level, requiring a larger excess stockpile or a saved level where it can be acquired.

Build up your multiplier

For every level that you conquer, the next will have more resources available, but also require more for quests to be completed. Not only are temporary rewards affected, but so are permanent ones, such as resource processing and generating buildings. Alternatively, you can abandon a level, which will reduce your multiplier instead

A ton of resources

Manage your stockpile of resources that come in different types, rarities and tiers.
