About This Game

Sylvarcon 2049 – Legacy Edition

Sylvarcon 2049 is a cyberpunk, story-driven cybersecurity experience that sits halfway between a game, a cyber range and a training platform. Instead of pretending to hack, you work with real tools, real virtual machines and real forensic workflows to investigate incidents, break into systems and uncover the truth behind the Lazarus System.

The Lazarus Era

The year is 2049. After a series of devastating pandemics in the 2020s, the world has changed forever. Millions die with every new wave of mutated viruses. Under permanent “emergency laws”, economies collapse, governments fall, and are quietly replaced by pharmaceutical megacorporations — the only entities capable of controlling the strains… and the citizens.

To keep “order” inside quarantined smart-cities, the Lazarus System is deployed: a global infrastructure that scores and classifies every person, deciding who is “worthy” of vaccines and who gets left outside the wall. Its algorithms don’t just protect people — they protect the new status quo.

Two perspectives on the same conspiracy

You will follow the story through two key characters:

  • Claire – a seasoned digital forensics analyst who wants to uncover what really happened to her mother and how Lazarus is manipulating the data.

  • Ethan – an experienced hacker determined to understand why his brother was killed and what Lazarus is hiding behind its “health” algorithms.

Each path looks at the same universe from a different angle, combining narrative choices with hands-on technical challenges.

Real environments, real techniques

Sylvarcon 2049 is built around realistic forensic and hacking challenges, not scripted mini-games:

  • Work against real virtual machines and real services.

  • Analyze PCAPs, logs, memory dumps, disk images and live systems.

  • Apply techniques that map directly to digital forensics, incident response, offensive security and threat hunting.

If you are only looking for a “press buttons to feel like a hacker” game, Sylvarcon 2049 might feel frustrating.
If, however, you want to understand how hacking, forensics and modern investigations actually work, Sylvarcon 2049 is designed to be a gateway into that world.

Legacy status and the future of Sylvarcon

This Steam build is now a legacy version. Over time, the original Unity client and its backend infrastructure became technically obsolete, and the project was retired and effectively closed on Steam in 2023.

The Sylvarcon universe, however, is not dead. It is being relaunched in a new standalone web-based platform, with:

  • A revamped visual style inspired by manga / anime.

  • A brand-new set of challenges – not just recycled content, but entirely new material.

  • A redesigned flag and guidance model, keeping the depth of real investigations while making the experience clearer.

  • Localization in more than 8 languages, opening Sylvarcon to a much wider audience.

  • The option to obtain a skills certificate mapped to real-world cybersecurity competencies.

  • And for owners of the legacy Steam version, access to the full premium package of the new platform once ownership is verified through Steam.

You can follow the reboot and news about the new experience our new web site.

We have also released the legacy challenge write-ups from this original Steam edition (solutions, methodology and techniques) for those who want to study or archive the old missions in our github respository
