What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Spiritus Astrum is currently in an early form. New features, improvements, optimisations, and in particular, lots of bug fixes, will be released on an ongoing basis.
As a Lone Developer, I do not have the resources to test all permutations of hardware and software before release, and so I intend to use the Early Access period to fully test and optimise Spiritus Astrum.
I also intend to ask for the communities feedback with respect to the future direction of the project, and trial new features and mechanics with a "live" audience.

Spiritus Astrum will be a long term project, and I intend to support it's development over the coming years.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I would expect that the early access period could be anywhere from Six months to a year or, even more.
I will make regular updates on the timeframe as the project progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version of Spiritus Astrum, I plan to add more starship types, weapons, items, factions, more variety in planets and stellar objects, and a substantially improved character creator system.

I also plan to add the ability for players to craft their own dynamic stories, which would then be include within the game for others to play.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core mechanics for Spiritus Astrum are mostly complete.
The procedural generation engine is working, players can travel vast distances without issue. The game state is correctly saved to and loaded from the server, and basic multiplayer is also working.
Survival, crafting, and NPC interaction, as well as basic random stories and simple enemies are also present.
Basic space combat and starship simulation is working.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing has not been fully decided yet, however it will be completely free in Early Access.
Upon Release, I will likely have two "tiers" a "free" tier, which will have a limitation on how many hours players can play per week, or month, and a subscription tier, which will allow unlimited playtime in return for a small monthly fee.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“In addition to fixing any bugs or issues reported by users, I also intend to request and respond to feedback from the community in relation to new features and improvements to the project, which will shape the development process going forward.

Spiritus Astrum is a persistent world game, and while players can play it without ever interacting with another person, the multiplayer component is an important part of the game, and building a strong and loyal community is vital.

Encouraging community participation and interaction is an important goal of not only the Early Access period, but the entire concept behind Spiritus Astrum.

Ongoing support, as well as feedback, suggestions and general discussions, will be provided both through Spiritus Astrum's steam community, and through the support forums, located here:

About This Game

Spiritus Astrum, or "Spirit of the Stars" is a persistent, open-world, multi-player, roleplaying sandbox. It features an infinite, procedurally generated universe which players are free to explore without restriction.

Solar systems, Stellar phenomena, and planets, are realistically scaled, and players can land and explore, craft, and build at their leisure, using a variety of spaceships, vehicles, and tools.

Spiritus Astrum is designed around emergent gameplay, with randomised NPC's, quests, enemies, and resources.

Combat in Spiritus Astrumis optional, the game features diplomacy, trading, and stealth in addition to combat. Conflict between players is not allowed, players may work together to explore or build, but may not engage in coflict. This encourages a cooperative, roleplaying atmosphere.

In addition to customising their characters appearance, players can choose traits and a background for their character. They can be a trader, a diplomat, an explorer, a war veteran, and more.

The game features "life simulation", players will need to eat, drink and sleep, in addition to training their various skills.

The Skill system is also dynamic, over-training some skills will reduce others, this prevents the "grind" often seen in other games of this type.

In Spiritus Astrum, players may live a true "virtual life". Players can purchase apartments, land, build homes, and even own their own ringworlds or entire planets!

Players can spend their time travelling the stars on board their ship, living within a densly populated city, or exploring vast worlds alone or with AI or human friends.

Spiritus Astrum is persistent, the players actions and choices matter, and will affect how NPC's and factions perceive them. If the player has a positive relationship with an NPC, they may agree to join your crew, or give you a discount on store purchases. However, with a negative relationship, they may not talk to the player at all!

In the future, Spiritus Astrum will also feature the ability for players to create their own stories to share with other players, and the ability to use the games tools to create unique enemies, weapons, and items.

Spiritus Astrum is more than a game, it is a world.
