About This Game

It's 1809, and the Corps of Discovery has recently returned from their expedition into the new American wilderness. They brought home tales of a land filled with an endless bounty of fur, game, and gold, spurring thousands of people to flock up the mighty Missouri river to find their fortunes. Little do they know of the true horrors lurking in this land of riches. Discounted as myths and legends by optimistic voyagers, blinded by the promise of wealth and adventure, many do not understand the mistake they've made until it is too late. You are among them, and it is up to you whether you survive, thrive, or die trying in this harsh new frontier!

Developed In the New Unreal Engine 5

Frontier is being developed in the ground-breaking Unreal Engine 5. The game changing systems introduced in the engine allow the full potential of the game to be unlocked.

Massive, Fully Dynamic World

The world features 7 unique maps that you can travel between (5 large and 2 small), totalling nearly 40 km^2 of playable area. The world is fully dynamic with a day/night cycle, moon phases, dynamic weather, and seasons. This is NOT an empty world either. A diverse set of wildlife, human, and monster NPCs populate the maps. With a detailed spawning system for NPCs, events, and loot, the world truly seems like a living breathing thing.

Play With Your Friends!

A host player can have up to seven friends at once join their game over Steam. Friends can come and go as they please, and their character and inventory will be saved for when they come back. Explore together, have build offs, lay siege to each other's forts: the possibilities are endless!

Travelling the Frontier

The Keelboat is the mountain man's preferred mode of travel, and the rivers are your highways! Upgrade your keelboat to increase cargo space, crew space, and firepower.

In Depth Building System

A detailed building system allows both fully modular and pre-set buildings to be made wherever and whenever you see fit. Cut down trees and collect supplies to build your creations. Different biomes have different trees, and this means your buildings take the shade of their environment as well. Cedar, pine, spruce, and birch logs can be used separate or combined to truly customize your buildings!

Choose Your Play Style

You choose who you want to be in this new wilderness! In addition to fully customizing your own mountain man/woman, there are many play styles to choose from. You could be a bounty hunter taking jobs from the Fort Lazarus saloon, a bandit raiding every party you come across, a fur trapper living off the land, a prospector exploring the dangerous cave systems, or anything in between!

Reputation and Moral Compass

Be conscious of your play style, as every action you take makes changes to your character's moral compass. This has a dread axis and an honor axis, meaning you could be an infamous coward, a dreaded saint, or anything in between. Your moral compass affects how NPCs interact with you, and can drastically change both friendly and hostile situations.

Dismemberment

All NPCs are dismemberable down the the hands and feet. You can use these to create horrific acts of intimidation, and help ward off enemies. But beware of cannabalism, or you may find first hand how the Wendigo came to be...

Not A Fan Of Scary?

Try the "Peaceful(ish)" game mode! This gets rid of all monsters, but leaves the human NPCs and everything else. And for a true solo survival experience, try the "Wilderness" mode. No monsters, no people, just you and the animals.
