What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Currently in open playtest. We really want to refine gameplay and hear from players to see what they think would make this game great.

We're currently hard at work adding content and gameplay features, including (but not limited to!): More assets for base building such as dormer roofs, bay windows, balustrades, and will e working on new levels such as plaster and stone assets. Gameplay is getting refined for combat, including new crafted weapons and armor. The world will continually be refined, the Fen is first, followed by a ton more biomes. There will be huge additions to the potion crafting ad usage systems.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There will be multiple biomes on the map, including ocean and underwater areas. The farming and crafting systems will be expanded, and a cooking system included. There are plans for massive additions to the potions crafting system. More vendors, preferably with factions. Tons more NPCs by faction, for instance Bag Witches, Flower Fae, Gnolls, Mermaids, and Gnomes. More damage types (such as dark, poison, light, etc.) will be added. We are looking into upgradable equipment, turn based combat for bosses, and guilds. A fishing system will be set up, and tree farming as well.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Entirely playable, but only three areas fully finished for playtesting. The rest are currently procedurally generated, so still playable but do not represent the final game state.

Currently one player character, many mobs and harvestable herbs, rocks, and trees. Collectable assets include: Achillea, Aconite, Allium, Anemone, Bellis, Bolete, Brunnera, Centaurea, Cortinarius, Crocus, Digitalis, Eshscholzia, Goetia, Hazelnut, Iris ensata, Lupine, Mugwort, Muscari, Papaver, Puffball, Scilla, SPirea, White mushroom, seeds for all previous herbs as rare drops while harvesting, rock, flint, stone, iron ore, palm leaves, wood, coconuts, sand, clay, fiber, raw meat, and vegetable seeds, and more to come. Combat system in place, some mobs in place, but both will be expanded as well. Playable area of 4850 square kilometers, but only three finished with hand placed assets. Swimming system and water volumes in place. Swimming includes splashes, drowning mechanics, diving, and regular swimming. Base Building system is rudimentary but usable, and includes foundations, walls, doors, doorframes, windows, door locks, ceilings, sloped walls, sloped roofs, and decorations such as carpets and pictures, mostly upgraded to 4K assets. Dialogue and trading with Villager mobs implemented. Inventory is both space and weight based, with backpack upgrades included. Minimap is accurate, as is the compass UI. There are six swappable hotbar slots with quick access keys (1-6) associated. Dying, respawning, and combat logic included. Mobs in game at the moment include wolf, bear, scorpion, wild rabbit, horse, sheep, goat, cattle, deer, frogs, snails, Villagers, pigs, rats, and undead, with many more to come. AI is fully implemented for all mobs.
This is just a rough overview, there is plenty of gameplay and gorgeous scenery to be enjoyed!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Otherwilde will have a very low price for Early Alpha playtesting. The game will be full price once it leaves Early Access, and price may increase with significant content updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I can't wait to hear feedback! We have discord channels open for bug reports, suggestions, and feature requests. Some of my favorite games changed significantly as developers heard from the players what they really wanted from a game, and the Otherwilde team would like to be flexible to make the game truly enjoyable.”

About This Game

Early Access - Pre-Alpha open Playtest

Welcome to The Otherwilde.

Enjoy a slow paced amble through a gorgeous world of photorealistic natural assets!

This is not a survival game, and there's no leveling, so you'll need to craft to make your way through the world. It's fairly chill, but bosses will be added later, and you do have to watch out for the wolves... and a few other things.

A robust crafting system is ready for you. You'll need to gather herbs to create potions, gather materials such as wood, stone, and iron, and build crafting stations. Not every tree is harvestable, not every rock is minable, and herbs are hard to find, so you'll have to learn where to find resources. You'll be able to build bases with incredible medieval assets (Wood for now, but we have plans! It's also clunky for the moment and very much in progress, but it will be amazing.). As you gather herbs and mushrooms, you may find seeds, ready for the complete and integrated farming system.

Interact with unexpected NPCs, and hunt wild animals for rare components. Sell your goods to a village trader, and buy unusual things. Find your way to the center of the maze to find treasure! Look for the hidden chests in the Alder Grove, and make your way through the Fen to find the Witches.

Whether you prefer cute villages, spooky swamps, or brushy alder groves full of natural resources, you'll find something to your taste. As you explore, you'll find that most of the world is covered in grasslands or fantastic pine forests, but several areas have been finished with hand placed assets and detailed resources.

There is a complete TUTORIAL level available from the main menu that shows every asset and harvestable item in the game.

Please note that this game is in the EARLY ALPHA stage of development. It is completely playable, but only three sections have been completely added to the main map. There's plenty of stuff in the works, stay tuned for all the exciting updates!

Explore! Build! Farm! Conquer!

Looking forward to your feedback and enjoyment of The Otherwilde.

NOTE: Prices will increase with each significant update/upgrade to game content.
