What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“In the original The Pit, we were working to make a game that we wanted to play. Over the decade since it first came out, it has found many fans and they bring with them their individual takes on the game. When we decided to make a sequel, we knew that this time we would involve those fans from the start, allowing them to help shape the final product. We have been discussing the old game and new game in social media, Discord, and message boards. Early Access is the next step, in which players get hands on with the game as we work to go Alpha.

We will be detailing what is in the game, what is being worked on, and what is coming soon in the About This Game section.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“That will depend on a variety of things, as it's a lot of game and a game that we want to have just the right feel and balance. We will be staying in direct contact with players through the Steam community page, where people can discuss the game and its progress with us.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Throughout Early Access we will be adding more content. More level art themes, more FX, more items, bio mods, enhancement serums, and weapon crafting variants. We will also be working with the community to implement elements and features they would like to see added that weren't available in the original game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early Access is a full game at the Beta stage of development, including a great deal of the content players will be familiar with from The Pit and The Pit: Infinity. In comparison, The Pit 2 in Early Access will offer more than was available in the original when it was first released. This includes;

- Playone of four player classes. Marine, Scout, Engineer, Sargent.
- Find and use dozens of weapons, equipment, foods, and items from the original series.
- Explore 20 floors.
- Encounter over a couple dozen monsters.
- Level up your character in a couple dozen different skills.
- New player camera controls
- The option to disassemble certain items for re-crafting.
- Hero-class enemies and mini-bosses.

We will be detailing what is in the game, what is being worked on, and what is coming soon in the About This Game section.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, there will be a nominal price increase after Early Access to reflect all the additional content and assets added throughout Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have maintained constant contact with the player community that grew from the original The Pit and we will be involving them and new players in Early Access to provide us with their feedback on mechanics and play balance. We will often poll the community when tqo alternatives present themselves.”

Reviews

“Of The Pit 1 - The Pit is one of the more solid roguelike titles on Steam, especially in a relatively flooded market.”
8/10 – RPG Fan

“Of The Pit 1 - The Pit is very difficult and has that same feeling of 'okay, just one more run' that both Binding of Isaac or FTL: Faster Than Light have.”
7.5/10 – Destructoid

About This Game

"A deadly plague ravages your world. Your last hope: a legendary alien facility dug deep into the Feldspar Mountains...a massive Pit, built by the ancient Suul'ka."

That was how it all started, but it's not where it ended. In a galaxy with one abandoned Suul'ka facility, might there not be another. Or many others?

After the success of our Indie, Roguelike hit Sword of the Stars: The Pit in 2012, it's time to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2022! Sword of the Stars: The Pit 2 is an update of the fun, fast, and light-hearted turn-based original, taking the game from its 2D retro-roots and into a fully 3D game world.

While we begin by updating The Pit for the present, join us as we take The Pit series to a whole new world!
