What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“After releasing our demo and sharing builds regularly with hundreds of players in our OpenDev community, we feel ready to open Lost Skies up to even more players. Your feedback so far has been incredibly valuable and really helped us to spot issues early and rethink our priorities based on what actually matters to players the most.

The current version already offers a substantial and meaningful experience, but there's still a lot we want to build. We believe that having the community involved in shaping that journey will ultimately make Lost Skies an even better game. Early Access allows us to refine and expand Lost Skies alongside you, using your feedback to guide any potential improvements and influence the roadmap.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are aiming for a Q3 release this year.

We're not putting a firm timeline on Early Access just yet as it really depends on how things go and what we learn from the community along the way. Our focus is on making Lost Skies the best version of itself and let it reach the right level of completeness and polish.

As we have done with our OpenDev community, we will keep you updated as the game evolves and make the development process as transparent as possible. We're definitely not short of ideas and banked features we'd love to add, and hopefully EA will be the beginning of a much longer journey with big updates for 1.0 and beyond.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access we'll continue to expand and improve Lost Skies in every direction. Some of our current plans include:

  • General bug fixing, optimisation and QOL improvements
  • Extending Region 1 with new islands
  • Adding more enemies and resources to deepen the survival loop

Further down the line, you'll be able to cross the windwalls, unlocking a whole new region, which will effectively double the size of the game, and bring a ton of new content from new puzzles and schematics to new creatures and bosses. We're planning to push a large Island Creator before summer, which will allow you to craft islands from this new region.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the start of Early Access, there's already a rich adventure waiting with lots of things for you to discover. You'll begin your journey in Region 1 (Outskirts), made of beautiful floating islands crafted by Bossa and our community through Island Creator. You'll be able to explore three different island types ranging in difficulty, with various wildlife, ancient tech enemies and puzzles. And of course, you can build, customise and upgrade your own skyship, whether you'd like to turn it into a cosy base for solo adventures or a powerful battleship for your crew.

You'll also face the biggest threat in Outskirts, the first Herald boss - a massive mechanical creature that will test your ship's strength and your crew's coordination. All of this is wrapped in a progression loop centered around crafting, upgrading, and exploration. We believe the foundation is there, and we'll keep polishing and balancing it throughout Early Access to make sure this experience only gets better.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't have plans to increase the price of Lost Skies during Early Access at this time. If that ever changes, we'll communicate it clearly ahead of time but for now, our focus is on delivering the best possible experience at the current price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We've been working closely with our OpenDev community for over two years, and we're not stopping now! Our Discord server is where most of the action happens: chats with developers, sharing builds, sourcing and discussing your feedback (and occasional spoilers!).

We continuously monitor player feedback and bug reports and adjust our development plans accordingly. If you want to be part of this journey, join us - your input definitely makes a difference!”
