What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our goal is to bring ScreenPlay to our players as swiftly as possible, moving beyond the limits of playtesting while retaining the opportunity to enhance the game with additional features. Crucially, we aim to engage deeply with our community, allowing their feedback to guide the prioritization of upcoming features slated for integration before the official launch. This collaborative approach ensures that ScreenPlay evolves in a direction that resonates with our players, enhancing the gaming experience for everyone involved.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Anticipated 6-9 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The journey from Early Access to the full release of ScreenPlay is focused on enriching the game across all fronts. With the final version, we plan to add enhanced polish, including comprehensive content completion like finalized card art, character voiceovers, visual effects, and sound design. Based on invaluable player feedback, we aim to fine-tune gameplay mechanics to achieve the perfect balance. We also plan to add an expansive PvE segment featuring AI bosses and an array of new game modes to diversify the play experience. Players can also look forward to possible significant UI enhancements, alongside potential improvements in game stability and performance, to deliver a seamless and immersive experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable, featuring a complete economy, daily missions and core gameplay loop. It supports rankings and allows players to use in-game currency for acquiring packs and cosmetics. Real money transactions will be introduced post early-access launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No differences.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our community engagement is robust, spanning Discord, Twitter, Reddit, and Steam forums. We actively involve our community in the development process through organized tournament play, bug reporting, and feedback, which significantly informs our balancing efforts and game updates.”

About This Game

ScreenPlay

ScreenPlay CCG is a comedy-driven digital collectable card game set in a wacky movie-making universe. Imagine the very characters that we enjoy seeing on screen are now also the ones creating the movies off-screen with their own crew and set. Players get to use these characters and hilarious tropes from different film genres to create their movies, employing strategy and anticipation to defeat opposing filmmakers. Unlimited budget for a movie-maker? No wonder, this game will give any studio executive a heart-attack.

Inspired by VS fighting game mechanics, ScreenPlay brings an original spin to traditional CCG gameplay. Predict your opponent’s moves and outmaneuver them in the cut-throat movie-making business. Attack, dodge, perform or use the various special abilities of your Lead characters to bring you closer to victory!

Simultaneous Turns

No more waiting for your opponent to think through their turn. It's a blockbuster, not a dramatic slow-burner!

In Screenplay, each player frames their scenes (their turns) in advance and chooses what they want to happen in each one. Then filming begins, and all of your plans have to go against what your opponent had in store for you.

Multiple paths to victory

Choose wisely which cards to play and when to play them, whether you want your characters to attack, dodge, or act out performances. You can achieve victory with various strategies. Don’t let genre typecasting limit your gameplay—this isn’t the cutthroat movie industry; it's just its fun, outlandish cousin!

Each Game a Story

The game revolves around your lead characters and furthering their character arcs. They come from all kinds of movie genres and have unique special abilities and thematic cards that perfectly fit their thematic background. Got Plot Armor cards? Deploy them as you please—unlike in real storytelling, here it’s not lazy writing, it’s strategy!

Pick a combination of three leads and build a 40-card deck to support them. Throughout the game you will gain Narrative Points that further your leads' story arcs. To win, you need to complete 2 of your lead character’s story arcs. Will you play as Richard Spade, the washed-up detective and rely on better information to out-predict your opponent with noir tropes? Or will you play as Illuminati Lizard and revel in the death of your characters? Will you play as Maximus and seek revenge on those who wronged you? Or play as Roast Comic Frog and mock your opponent with your unpredictable comedic timing?

With over 22 different Leads and many more to come, the possibilities are countless... Well, numerous possibilities but mathematically limited! Seriously, even Netflix interactive shows have their limits—remember, in our case, we're just talking about an indie video game here!

Single-Player

After learning how to play in the tutorial you will get a deck to start building your collection. Complete daily and weekly challenges, defeat boss bots in a variety of game modes introduced frequently to unlock more cards to play with and win other prizes!

We also plan to add movie campaigns in future so players can explore and learn about the wacky characters and storylines of ScreenPlay. Just hope our characters don’t call a writer's strike—can you imagine the devs picking up the script? Preposterous!

Multi-Player

Challenge other players across the world in various modes of gameplay. Increase your rating by playing in the ladder against players of your strength to become the very best. Create comedy-horror movies with an action-adventure plotline starring sci-fi and romantic roles and subvert even your own expectations! In this game, it’s not just the final cut that counts—it’s the surreal journey to get there. Plus, no real critics around to bash your celebrity aspirations!

A Director’s Toolkit

All the cards in the game are available by opening booster packs or playing through the various missions and competitive ladder. The most sought-after cards are also available through the crafting system, which allows you to make use of unwanted duplicates of cards you own. Of course, if you were born into a showbiz family and can’t be bothered with this sort of peasant work, be our guest, bypass the grind and buy the cards you need outright—we’re not gonna stop you!

Ever-Evolving Epics

Every three months, we aim to add new card expansions to the game, keeping the metagame fresh and unsolved. Every expansion unleashes new movies, new leads, new deck-building strategies, and new game modes. Join us for a long engaging experience... Or not. But really, you should—this is where all the cut scenes you wished made it to the final cut live! Okay, we might not have director’s commentary, but we promise the plot twists make up for it!

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI art is used as placeholder for cards who's artwork is not yet finished. We are regularly replacing artwork with hand made artwork. The final product won't have any ai or placeholder artwork.
