What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Knight of Turn first entered Early Access in 2021, but that initial version did not have the structure needed to support the experience we envisioned. Rather than continue adding content to a limited foundation, we rebuilt the game from the ground up.

We now have a stronger foundation and a complete campaign loop centred around the Book. Early Access allows us to develop the next chapters alongside players, using real feedback to improve rule clarity, difficulty progression, item balance, controls, and pacing. We want the community to help refine an experience that is already playable, rather than simply wait for a future promise.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The release date for version 1.0 is currently TBD. We intend to remain in Early Access while we expand the campaign through content updates towards our planned target of 50 stages and use community feedback to improve balance, clarity, and polish.

We will share a more specific release window when the content is close to completion and we are confident that we can make that commitment. We would rather communicate progress through concrete updates than promise a premature date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to feature a 50-stage campaign divided into chapters, with more combinations of items, enemies, and board elements, new records to discover in the Book, and further accessibility and localisation options. We also intend to continue improving balance, presentation, controls, and progression based on player feedback.

These plans reflect our current direction and may evolve during development. The central identity will remain the same: handcrafted turn-based tactical puzzles connected by a campaign presented through the Book.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The rebuilt version is playable and will relaunch with 10 puzzles forming the first chapter of the new campaign. The main campaign loop is in place: explore maps inside the Book, unlock stages, solve turn-based boards, and improve your move and time results.

Players can already use swords, shields, arrows, and teleportation, face a variety of tactical situations, save their progress, and play with a keyboard or controller. The Book also brings together chapter and stage selection, objectives, personal bests, characters, in-game achievements, and settings.

The game is still in development. Content, balance, text, interface, and visual and audio polish will continue to change throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may gradually increase as major chapters and new content are added. We intend to announce any price change in advance. Players who purchase the game during Early Access will receive every update and the full version when it is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use the Steam Community discussions and announcements to share progress and collect feedback. We are especially interested in comments about puzzle clarity, difficulty progression, controls, item balance, performance, and accessibility.

Major updates will include notes explaining what changed and why. Bug reports and observations about specific stages will also help guide fixes and improvements. Not every suggestion can become part of the game, but all feedback will help us evaluate our next decisions.”

About This Game

Think before you take the next step

The Knight of Turn is a turn-based tactical puzzle inspired by board games. Every room is a small handcrafted challenge: when the knight moves, the enemies act too. Read the board, anticipate each threat, and find your path to the exit.

Swords, shields, arrows, keys and teleporters change the rules of every encounter. Resources are limited and the order of your actions matters. Reaching the exit is only the beginning — revisit each stage to discover a better solution, use fewer moves, and beat its target time.

A new version, rebuilt from the ground up

The original 2021 release was the first step for The Knight of Turn. Since then, the game has been rebuilt from scratch: its code, controls, presentation, progression, maps, visual and audio feedback, and campaign structure were all remade to create a stronger foundation and a clearer, more satisfying experience.

This is more than an update to the old prototype. It is a new foundation for the game we always wanted to make.

The Book is the heart of the adventure

The Book is not just a menu. It is the guide to your journey and the place where the campaign takes shape.

Turn its pages to choose chapters and stages on illustrated maps, follow newly unlocked paths, check objectives and personal bests, revisit characters, and record your achievements. When a stage ends, the next part of the adventure is revealed inside the Book itself.

Instead of interrupting the world with conventional menus, the Book brings progression, discoveries, and navigation together in one object that belongs to the story.

What awaits you

  • Compact, handcrafted turn-based tactical puzzles
  • Enemies that react to your movement — every turn matters
  • Swords, shields, arrows, teleportation, and other elements that reshape each board
  • Move and time goals for players who enjoy perfecting their solutions
  • Chapter maps with paths and stages that unfold as you progress
  • The Book: your campaign guide and record of characters, results, and achievements
  • Rebuilt pixel art presentation, animation, and sound feedback that give weight to every action
  • Keyboard and controller support
  • A single-player experience you can approach at your own pace

Help write the next chapters

During Early Access, new puzzles, chapters, interactions, and improvements will be developed with the community. We want to know when a rule is unclear, which solutions feel the most satisfying, and what kinds of challenges you would like to discover on the next pages of the Book.

If you enjoy puzzles where a single decision can reshape the entire board, open the Book and join the return of The Knight of Turn.
