What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As The City Must Grow is a one-person project, I need community feedback to make the game more enjoyable. I have a lot of things and ideas to add to the game and I need feedbacks to prioritize or inspire new ideas. I like to listen to people and implement ideas.
The current state of the game is like a sandbox and repetitive. And the key feature is to make the highest score among other players.
I'm working on it to add more features and to reduce repetitiveness.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until I feel it is finished, it will stay in early access so It is hard to say a date but I roughly say that It will stay in early access for a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The first plan is to complete the following;
- More zone types
- More advanced buildings
- More building variation
- More resource types and new chains on the production line
- More information-gathering tools (like map view modes)
- Industry-focused improvements
- Able to build special buildings (like government services)
- Day / Night and changing weather
- Ui polishing”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Core mechanics are done in early access. It has simple controls but is deep in internal mechanics. As a city building game, it has different zone types; residential, agricultural, commercial, offices, and a little industry. Has some objectives to complete. Information messages wherever possible to lead users to what to do. And it has steam leaderboard. Also well optimized already in order to make people experience the game well without having high spec hardware.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As planned ideas are implemented and new contents are added, the price may increase slightly.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All kinds of reviews are welcome, I like to hear what people think about the game. Feedbacks are appreciated and makes me prioritize plans and inspires me to add new content. Also, I will publish changelogs and the development process I work on.”

Description

A new city will be established on a flat plain and its administration has been given to you. In order to keep the administration in your hands, the city needs to develop continuously.

Your role in this game is to determine where the buildings and structures in the city can be built. Time and moves in the game are turn-based. Each move is given a random zoning type to mark on the map. After you mark zones, you move on to the next cycle and observe the developments in the city.

You can unlock more advanced types of buildings and structures by completing in-game objectives. Completing objectives also allows you to use different map view tools that will make management easier.

There are five main types of zones you manage; residential, agricultural, commercial, offices, and industrial. You need to constantly try to manage the distance between the zones, the density, and the balance between them correctly. Otherwise, escapes from the city may begin, unused buildings may collapse on their own, and the city may collapse with a chain effect.

The main aim of the game is to keep the administration in your hands as long as possible by ensuring the continuous development of the city and to reach a high population. Losing control of the city is part of the game and it's up to you to try again to find the best way to keep the city constantly growing.
