What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“During the development of my previous game, I've continued to extend content by over 18 months (8 of which on Steam). Including players in the continued development of content has proven extremely useful to make sure the balance feels right and additional quality of life features can be added at the request of players. Launching the game as early access properly represents that the game will be expanded significantly. However, the early access version will not be a paid beta either. All the content that is already included is tested, balanced and debugged as extensively as you could expect from a solo developer”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Somewhere between 6 and 18 months. I'll continue to expand the early access version until I feel comfortable enough to label it release-ready. How well the game is received by you plays a big part in that decision. But that doesn't mean updates stop after leaving early access!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The early access version contains all features listed in the "About this game" section in a fully playable and balanced manner. The game has a story you progress through, that story will feature between two and three weeks of content with the initial early access release. During early access, that story will be expanded significantly, until at least two months worth of content, but hopefully more. Expanding the story will include a variety of new areas to explore, new skills to train, new constructions to build and new goals to reach. Specifics to how the story will expand will be tailored to player reception and suggestions, but will certainly include various themes that come with their own challenges.

Once the story is completed entirely, a form of "new game plus" will likely be added, to provide an optional way to continue playing after completing the main game.

Additionally, the full release will include any improvements that players may suggest during early access (that I feel the game will benefit from).

The early access version contains all (originally planned) features, except for the "new game plus" feature. Story content is roughly 25-30% finished in the initial early access release (2-3 weeks out of 2+ months of content).”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The early access version contains all features listed in the "About this game" section in a fully playable and balanced manner. These features include over 15 skills to train that affect a variety of jobs and constructions, the action queue, story progression and reincarnation. The story will feature between two and three weeks of content when it releases to early access and will be further expanded on from there.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing may be adjusted throughout early access. I think the initial price is fair for the state that the early access version is released in (make sure to play the free demo to decide for yourself though). The price might be raised when a lot of content has been added and that'd seem in line with player reception. As you should expect, if you get the game during early access, you're getting all content that's added at a later time. As a solo developer, you are directly supporting me in the ambition to spent a lot more time on the game to get it to reach its full potential. That should be returned with the gratitude that you deserve for doing so, through updates!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I'll be reading as much of your feedback as I can, both on the Steam community, and the Discord. As stated before, a main reason to go early access is to include your feedback and suggestions into the development of further content. The best way to include you in that process is to listen to as much as possible and reflect that in the updates to come!”

About This Game

Survive the ever increasing pressure of time for as long as you can!

Increlution is a minimalistic idle game about time management that takes inspiration from roguelite games. It's up to you to survive as long as you can with the tools that you unlock throughout life, such as food or constructions. As time goes on, your health will decline increasingly faster until you'll eventually die. However, death merely marks a new beginning. With every generation, your chances at survival will increase, because progress in previous lives increases your instincts.

Managing time

Throughout life, you'll have access to various jobs, constructions and explorations. Using the step-by-step queue system, you can plan exactly what you want to happen and the game will automatically follow your orders. When your queue is empty, the game pauses automatically, so you don't lose any of your precious time! This is a game about planning and strategizing, not a game about micro-management or clicking. However, if you prefer to play more real-time, you can prioritize anything over your queue at any time.

Skills

Every action uses one of many skills, such as Farming of Woodcutting. Every skill has two leveling types, Generation levels and Instinct levels. Generation levels increase more rapidly and provide a bigger benefit throughout life. Instinct levels increase at a slower pace, but persist through death, creating a permanent improvement for every following life. The combined effect of these levels directly affects how quickly you can perform actions that use these skills, allowing you to spend more of your time on other actions to increase your chances to survive!

Story based progression

You progress through the game with a story. Exploring the world allows you to discover new tools to improve your chances at survival. Unlike most idle games, having a story also means the game includes no procedural content, and you're actually able to complete the game. When the game is released into early access, the story will contain between two and three weeks of content, depending on how well you are doing. Throughout early access this story will be expanded significantly, until at least two months worth of content. When the story feels properly finished, a new game plus will likely be added to offer an option to continue playing after completing the game.

Meta progression

Every generation will have better chances at survival than the last. The longer you survive, the more those chances will increase! This cycle of life and death plays a fundamental part in the overall progression through the game. Death is inevitable, but never pointless!

Featuring a free demo

Like many things in life, you can only truly judge whether something fits your liking by trying it first hand. For that reason, Increlution will feature a free demo so you don't need to take anyone's word for it! Try it yourself, and only get the full version if you're completely convinced that it'll be worth your while! Progress made in the demo will automatically be synchronized to the full version through Steam Cloud. The free pre-release demo can be played right now and contains roughly nine hours of content! After the game reaches Early Access, the demo will probably be adjusted to roughly two hours of content.

When will the game be available?

Increlution will release as Early Access during the third quarter of 2021. The Early Access version is currently targeted to be between two and three weeks of content, after which I intend to expand the game to at least two months of content. As a solo developer, community involvement has been incredibly useful to the overall quality of my previous game and calling a game finished before improving it to player feedback would be a missed chance!
