What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“"Mars 2120 is a brand-new sci-fi metroidvania, with a rich world, strong female lead and a mix of ranged and melee combat.
It is currently in Beta, meaning all major gameplay elements are implemented and filled with amazing content!!!
The Early access is a fantastic way for us to put our game to test in the hands of avid gamers in the community. With the help of experienced gamers, and newcomers alike, we expect to turn MARS 2120 into something really special.
We have been actively working on the development of the game since 2019, but none of that matters if the game is not good enough for all of you!
As we move forward with the performance fine tuning, graphical adjustments and overall improvements over the course of the next few months leading the final release of the game, we found an opportunity to work closer with the community by collecting your feedback, suggestions and ideas, and use this time to onboard new features and improvements to build an even better game."”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The Early Access will run for 6-8 months approximately. During this time our teams will work on fine tuning performance, graphical adjustments and improvements, and also implement changes and features based on your invaluable feedback during the Early Access to build an ever-improving experience.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“"We are planning a robust 6-8 hours campaign, with new enemies, action sequences and environmnents. It will also feature a New Game Plus and two additional game modes.
A full set of Accessibility options for both PWD and gamers of several skill levels to allow a more inclusive gaming experience.
Not only that, we want you to rest assured that we'll keep improving the game over the course of the Early Access to deliver a gaming experience the community deserves, based on your very feedback, meaning the game will constantly evolve until release, with new areas, new enemies, new power-ups et al."”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“"Our approach to the Early Access version will be to deliver the game in Phases, so we can benefit from your feedback on each of the segments and work on the implementation of those features and improvements on the next update.
You will be able to test all core features of the game, so you can battle your way through the mysteries of the Martian Colony as the segments further develop, with key new content being added with each update, as we continue to iterate on and polish the overall experience.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“"There is a reason we wanted the community to participate in the development of the game via Early Acess, and that is to build a better MARS 2120 experience.
Our teams will work closely with the community, collecting your feedback via Discord Channels and Steam forums.
You are more than welcome to share not only your feedback, but also suggestions and ideas - We want the community to be an active part of the process - Balancing, new features, improvements... We'll listen to your every word, consider it, discuss it with our teams, and try to make as much of it into the game as possible."”

“After playing and replaying a few times, I found a game that demonstrates maturity in its design choices and mechanics. In its current development stage, I found very conscious decisions of what the game wants to be. Naturally, there is still much to be done and improved, but MARS 2120 has great potential. The basic structures of a good metroidvania are all here, competently implemented.”
Game Lodge

“In simple terms, Mars is the Brazilian Super Metroid, capable of reproducing the qualities of the Nintendo franchise very well, especially in its aesthetics and setting, which complement each other optimally, building the idea of mystery that leads players to continue exploring to understand what is happening - this atmosphere of mystery, in fact, is reminiscent of Metroid Dread.”
