What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“This is our first released game and our goal is to make the best game possible and with players so players playing and enjoying the game while providing feedback will help us make the best game we can make with our small crew of only two people!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The original goal was to have the game in Early Access for a couple of months, but issues with development has extended that out quite far. With us having limited funds and low man-power it couldn't be helped. On top of the change in graphics from 2D to 3D which added significant time to the timeline. The goal now is to focus on getting everything rebuilt and the game playable before focusing on the graphical side. Once we get the game playable, then we'll make it pretty. Please bear with us while we work through the process.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Ultimately, the full version will include everything in the Early Access version. All story content. All items. All side content. All zones. Everything is in both versions. The main advantage of supporting the game now is a lower price. Since the game is incomplete currently, the price should reflect that, but as the development continues, players will end up with the complete game. Any content added after release will be available to all players of both versions of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, all systems are in the game, but have not been fleshed out. This means that you will be able to buy skills. Do side jobs. Mod your gear. Do the main story up to the end of Chapter 2. Chapter three will be added soon after release. There will be only a few skills and side jobs initially. The plan is to get feedback on how they're implemented before we go "all in" and add a lot more. There will only be a few skills initially for the same reason. We really want to get some feedback on how they work and affect gameplay before we add more. Once everyone is satisfied, we'll be adding more to the game. You can save your game and pick up where you left off once new content is added. Chapter 3 and 4 of the main story will be added over time as refinement of the overall gameplay systems continues.

Also, a few of the zones currently do not have effects. This is is also something we'll be adding over time. The current build of the game is not as filled out as it will be in the final game. We're still working on what the ultimate look of those effects will be and so they're not ready to hit primetime yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Right now the game is listed for a set price, and this price will increase once the full game is released, so now is a good time to get in if you're price conscious. We do not plan to do many price increases. Updates to the game will be free, so as things get added, you'll get them for no extra charge. We have not planned for DLC (paid or otherwise) at this time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be doing updates on the Community page and monitoring community and player comments and feedback over the course of game development and will make adjustments based on that feedback. We encourage everyone to get involved in the process with discussions, screenshots, reporting bugs, and pointing out problem areas of the game. Just keep in mind this is a work in progress.”

About This Game

After waking up in a strange unfamiliar hospital bed after a two year coma, John Smith decides to salvage what's left of his life and live a quiet and peaceful existence. He has no idea who he was or how he ended up in a coma in the first place. All he knows now is that that a third of his body was so badly damaged and burned that it's been replaced with cybernetics. Then there are the nightmares that plague his dreams every night sending him to the edge of his own sanity. Follow Mr. Smith on his journey to unravel his past and unlock the doors that lead him on a journey not just about self discovery, but his very survival.

Journey through Chicago with John Smith in this classic noir tale as he pieces together clues about his past, battles enemies, and tries to reluctantly put his life back together. And like classic noir tales of old, you know that not everything is as it seems. Who will John be at the end of it all? Shadows of the Lost is a mix of adventure game mechanics and turn based RPG set in a futuristic cyberpunk world.

This 2D RPG is the first game in our Penny RPG series which is a series of short, inexpensive RPGs with throwback mechanics and thoughtful storytelling. If you're a fan of JRPGs with a mix of more modern systems, then you'll be right at home.
