Why Early Access?

“Creating a massively online strategy game is complicated. Early Access helps us manage two key parts of the complexity:

  • Gameplay balancing: Nothing can substitute evaluating a multiplayer game with real players. The game's distinct Battleships and Modules will offer millions of viable loadouts when heading into combat. Continuously monitoring how these loadouts are used by real players will allow us to balance them and to increase the number of interesting tactical decisions the game offers. Put simply, we are hoping your feedback during Early Access will help BATTLESHIP APOLLO become the best space tactical combat game in the world.
  • Connectivity and stability issues: The experience and bug reports from Early Access will help us launch a stable and high performing service.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At a minimum, we expect Early Access to last several months. Our goal is to eventually release a great game, not to meet any specific deadline. We do not know how long the process will take, and we will not release the game before it is ready regardless of how long it has been in early access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will organically evolve into the full version over the months. Expect the final release to have a similar focus on multiplayer space combat using diverse Battleships and Modules, but with additional content, better balancing, more satisfying progress, and more frequent special events.

Both the Early Access version and fully released version will get frequent updates, though core gameplay changes will be much more frequent in the Early Access version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The most important thing to be aware when playing the Early Access version is that your progress will eventually be wiped. We understand that with a persistent online game this can be frustrating, so we will be reminding you here and in game that you should wait for the full release if you are not comfortable with your time investment getting reset.

The Early Access version will mostly focus on multiplayer game modes, as those are the ones that can use balancing with real players. Expect a lot of single player content to be placeholder or missing throughout Early Access. We will also be experimenting a lot with rotating multiplayer modes, depending on player population, to ensure we have enough players when testing each game mode. This could lead to some frustration if you only want to play one game mode, and that mode is currently out of rotation.

The game will be changing very frequently during Early Access, especially when it comes to balancing numbers for every Battleship and Module. We'll do our best to communicate these changes but you should be aware that many strategies you are finding dominant may become weaker as part of regular balancing. You'll likely find yourself re-thinking your strategy more frequently than you would on an established, fully released game.

You are likely to encounter instability and connectivity issues in Early Access, but our goal is to get those out of the way with very quick and frequent updates so we can enable you to focus on more substantial gameplay feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Both Early Access and full versions will be available for free, with all content unlockable over time. Optional In App Purchases that can speed up progress will be available in the full version, and visible but disabled in the Early Access version. Having the In App Purchases visible in Early Access allows you to evaluate for yourself how the game monetization will work in the final version, and how the game might feel for someone who plays for free, forever.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback was critical for making our first game, Hades' Star, a success. We intend to use a similar process of involving the community with BATTLESHIP APOLLO, which is in the same universe as Hades' Star. We expect to get valuable feedback both from new players, and veteran Hades' Star players. We will be primarily using the #battleship-apollo channel in the Hades' Star discord server (https://discord.gg/hadesstar) to gather detailed individual feedback, and to run polls to get community sentiment on various development questions.

Community feedback will greatly affect BATTLESHIP APOLLO, including but not limited to what the main multiplayer game mode will look like. The game will also collect non personally-identifiable usage information, which can help us with some decisions. But we expect the most valuable feedback is the one you'll give us yourself, on our discord server.”

Two hundred years have passed since the beginning of colonization and the events of Hades' Star. The Hades Galaxy is now more unstable than ever.

In BATTLESHIP APOLLO, you create your Battleship and equip it by choosing among countless of options for weapons, support fighters, and other special abilities. You will bring your Battleship to combat in a variety of scenarios, from single player to massively multiplayer arenas. Your daily combat efforts will add up to significant rewards over time, with new areas, new Battleships, new abilities and special events making themselves available as you progress.



BATTLESHIP APOLLO respects your time, with instant load times and quick combat that usually resolves within a few minutes. At the same time, it allows you to spend as much time as you want in the game, without artificial progress walls. We have taken special care to remove superfluous RTS elements, while still keeping what's important to maintain tactical depth.
