What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Forsaken Ruins is currently undergoing development as a university, final major project. It will release with basic-level specification, involving 3D audio, interactive puzzles, unique AI and interesting levels.

As of release there will be no save function within the game itself. I do hope you enjoy the game and any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I continue to develop the game further in the future.

After 3 years of studying Computer Games at university and only 4 months of development, I sure hope you can see the potential of The Forsaken Ruins!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I estimate the game to remain as an Early Access title for 2-4 months after release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I hope to add more features and refine existing ones, such as:

  • Steam Achievements
  • 2 Ending Scenarios
  • Extend the ending
  • 2 New Monsters
  • 1 New Room
  • More Puzzles
  • Refine AI types
  • Refine Player Mechanics
  • Refine Player Journal
  • More Horror
  • More Story
  • Cut-scenes
  • Bug Fixing/Optimisation
  • Community Feedback

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently The Forsaken Ruins features:

  • 5 Unique levels (Including a short chase scene at the very end)
  • 2 Puzzles
  • 3 Monster types (Each with the ability to harm and chase the player)
  • Books and pages for puzzles and points of interest.
  • Credits
  • Settings Menu

The game is relatively short and can be completed in just over an hour. The Forsaken Ruins is meant to be played from the very beginning, however I have added a 'Level Selection' scene as well, so players can experience all levels.

The player can interact with torches, explosive barrels, skulls, stools and chests!

The game is fairly optimised and players should not experience any frame rate issues. I am currently working on a Settings menu as we speak. For more information about what to expect from the game, please read the 'About This' section.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I believe due to the amount of new additional content on the way and fixes, the game will slightly increase in price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be paramount for the growth of The Forsaken Ruins! I hope people understand I do not claim to be the best, however I like to think I work hard. I would greatly appreciate any feedback and by downloading The Forsaken Ruins you will greatly support me also!

I intend to use a variety of methods to obtain your feedback, for instance I will be creating surveys every other month and posting the link via The Forsaken Ruins Community page. In addition, there will be frequent blog posts (via Tumblr) about upcoming updates to the game so you will not be left in the dark!

If you encounter a bug, I would be grateful if you could post the report using text, pictures or videos via the forum page. For the game to grow into a successful horror game, I will be engaging with you directly through these methods.

About This Game

The Forsaken Ruins is a first-person horror game. Interact with the environment around you by picking up objects and throwing them to overcome challenging obstacles and monsters. Beginning in a cell, you play as The Prisoner and your main goal is to escape the ruins alive. Blow up cell doors and smash items, whilst attempting to remain hidden from unknown threats.

Delve deep into hell and you might just find a way out.

DELVE
Solve puzzles by reading books and notes throughout the ruins. Explore five unique levels, each with their own level of dread.

SURVIVE
Stay hidden or run away from monsters that lurk in the darkness.

ESCAPE
Throw flaming barrels to overcome challenging obstacles and blow up prison doors to gain access to new areas! You'll need to find four keys by smashing chests, before you even think about trying to escape!

NOTE: The Forsaken Ruins is currently being developed as a university project, and so, will release as an Early Access title. I intend to keep working on the game even after university finishes upon release. As it stands, I have plans to refine the game-play and add more content in the future!
