What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“A few things are missing, though nothing critical for the gameplay. Also, I like to polish everything as much as possible before calling it "complete". Please see the list of planned features in the game description and make your own suggestions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Ideally, under a year. The game has been in development for a long time and has tons of features already.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The current To-Do List includes: more overall polishing and balancing, multiplayer optimization, endgame content, NPCs, Linux support, and other minor things. I plan to be gradually adding these with updates, just as before. See the game description for the list of planned features.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In terms of features the game is almost where I want the full version to be. At this point it is mostly polishing, balancing, endgame content, and a few other things that are left. See the game description for the list of implemented features and planned future content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I don't plan to change the price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I've always been open to suggestions! There's so much stuff that could be added to the game so it would be nice to prioritise based on community feedback. Please feel free to email your suggestions or share them on the game's Discord.”

About This Game

Elsewhere is a big open-world procedurally generated game about exploration, resource processing, quests, and technological (or magical) progress. Inspired by Yogscast it has many unique features, such as character creation, building templates and monster-filled castles. Made by a single man!

Hi everyone! My name is Sergio and I am the developer of Hearthlands.

Elsewhere is a game I’d been working on intermittently roughly since 2012. Since late 2018 I’ve been working on it mostly full time.

I’ve been a fan of the Yogscast for many years and the main idea of Elsewhere is to have a fully standalone game with a world where players can go on various adventures reminiscent of classic let’s play series such as Jaffa Factory, Voltz, Moon Quest, and Hole Diggers to name a few.

In Elsewhere one can explore the world, fight monsters and collect loot, or gather and process resources and gradually progress from simple tools and medieval technology all the way to fusion power and particle accelerators.

There’s also magic, alchemy, ruins and temples, and huge procedurally generated castles and dungeons with bosses to explore and conquer.

The players are guided by a quest system, though it doesn’t have to be followed linearly or at all. Building a fully automated Jaffa Factory for example (or a Chocolate Cookie Factory to be more precise), can be a real challenge, since there are lots of elements co consider and many resources to automate and process.

Elsewhere features a large procedurally generated and fully interactive world with dozens of biomes. Players can explore the world, place and remove blocks, build castles and machines, gather and process resources, farm, gather, and cook food, explore ancient ruins and temples, fight monsters, avoid traps, collect loot, and do many other things. There are over 7500 blocks, over 6000 recipes, and over 300 quests.

There are pre-built bases and building templates, tons of decorative blocks and items, including arcade machines with mini-games, character creation and pre-made skins, and many other unique elements.

The plans for the game include NPC interactions, story elements, wider modding support, and many other things (see below).

Please note that Elsewhere, whilst it has most of the intended mechanics implemented, is still a work in progress. It is also a very large game and takes time to fully unravel.

The game features many jokes and references. There’s also a free to play modification of Elsewhere called YogLabs: Testing Initiative based on the YogLabs series.

All Yogscast-related content is used with permission.
