What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks has a very loyal and passionate following. We want to ensure that Deathtrap Dungeon stays true to the spirit of the original book, whilst introducing optional new features to make the game as enjoyable, and as accessible to, as wide an audience as possible.

We’ll be introducing new features, including an all-new simplified battle mechanic, and the ability to revisit anywhere on your previous route when you die, which we desperately need feedback upon ahead of a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“1-2 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will contain completed optional new features, Steam achievements and final polish. Video content will be fully edited, featuring subtitles, special effects, original book artwork, and sound.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game will be playable to completion, utilising the original battle mechanic from the gamebooks, however, the video will feature fewer special effects, original book artwork, and sound which will be added as we progress to full release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be discounted during Early Access, in appreciation of player’s feedback.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We wholeheartedly welcome players' requests and feedback in the Community Hub, where we'll also be posting regular updates, actively encouraging players' opinions in the design of extra features, and generally involving our players as much as we can.”

About This Game

Deathtrap Dungeon is an interactive video realisation of Ian Livingstone's multi-million selling classic gamebook starring Eddie Marsan (Fast & Furious presents Hobbes & Shaw, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde) as narrator.

Presented in a similar way to the BBC's Jackanory/Bedtime Stories, or Jim Henson's Storyteller series, the game features nearly 5 hours of video and takes the player through the devious labyrinth of Baron Sukumvit, full of tricks, traps and loathsome monsters on a quest to escape the dungeon.
