Why Early Access?

“We believe that publishing a game as Early Access can be valuable for both developers and players for several reasons:

1. Feedback and Iteration: Early Access allows developers to gather feedback from a dedicated community of players. This feedback can be invaluable for identifying bugs, balancing gameplay and adding new features that the community wants. We think it creates a loop of development, feedback, and iteration that can greatly improve the quality of our game.

2. Flexibility in Development: Unlike a traditional game launch, Early Access allows for more flexibility in the development process. Developers can pivot based on player feedback or experiment with features that may not have been considered initially. This can lead to a more innovative and finely tuned game.

3. Transparency and Trust: By being open about the development process, challenges, and updates, developers can build trust with their player base. We believe that this transparency is beneficial for both players and developers to help developing the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Although this may not be completely accurate, since it depends on very different aspects such as funding, development speed and the feedback of the players, we believe that the game will stay in Early Access until Q4 2025, which is when we expect to execute the full-game launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to keep improving and upgrading the Early Access version until it reaches the goals we have set for the full version of the game. These goals can be categorized into feature, content and balancing completion.

As for feature completion, we expect to add more capabilities to the game: more game modes, customization capabilities, and more polished UI/UX.

As for content completion, we plan to improve the amount of content the game has in terms of the amount of cards, the amount of overlords and battlefields, as well as cosmetics (stickers and skins). This also includes retention-related aspects of the game such as quests and achievements.

Lastly, balancing completion will be reached as all game elements (cards, battlefields and overlrods) are battle-tested and properly balanced, making sure that the game promotes fair and fun gameplay.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the current state of the game, players can choose an Overlord (either using one of the predefined decks or create decks from scratch using the provided cards) and play against other players in the form of friendly matches (ranked is not yet implemented in the game).

Players can't get new cards yet, since the main focus of the current build is to test the barebones of the system and to battle-proof the game concept and mechanics. However, players can still create and edit their decks with the provided card collection.

Our plan is to keep upgrading and impoving the game from this state to the final full version of the game while in Early Access, with the help of the received player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Rise of the Overlords is free-to-play and we will keep it this way in the future. We expect however, to add different in-app purchasing options for the players that are yet to be detailed.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The first step is to allow them to play the game in the initial development stages (Early Access). We consider player feedback the most valuable source of information that will allow us to sharpen the different aspects of the game as we introduce new features and reach the full feature version in the future.”
