What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Dominion is a game that has found its way into boardgame collections of players across the world since it first launched in 2008. Many of these players have been asking for a digital implementation of the game for years and have offered to help make it happen, which is why Early Access is a perfect fit for Dominion. This game has nearly countless combinations of Kingdom setups, and it will take an army of players to play through thousands of games, to vet that all sixty-six sextillion possible card Kingdoms are functioning as expected.

On top of that, we want this game to be exactly what you've been wishing for. We have loads of new features planned, including increased game sizes, 1st edition content, ranked play, achievements, a Card Gallery, taptips to get more information about game symbols, a tutorial, campaigns, improved async support, more smart plays, more AI difficulty levels, and more options for Kingdom customization. We want to hear from you what we're missing, what other features we can add to make Dominion the Kingdom you want to come home to.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning on being in Early Access for a few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Ranked Play
We also plan to roll out ranked play for players who are looking for an extra challenge. Dominion has benefited from a dedicated and competitive player base since the original board game hit shelves in 2008. Early access will give us a chance to work with these top players to deliver the features they're looking for in matchmaking and rating algorithms to climb to the top of the rankings.

Achievements
Through Early Access we encourage players to post screenshots and moments where absolutely bonkers combos popped off to give us ideas for achievements to add to Dominion. With over sixty-six sextillion possible Kingdom combos, we can't possibly know all of the cool ways cards can interact with each other which is why we're enlisting our earliest players to help us find those moments to highlight. We also plan to add over five hundred individual achievements; there will be one per card.

Increased Player Counts
We plan to add several new features throughout the Early Access period, and have also left time to add features that players request through the forum comments. Some features that will be coming into the game include raising the player count to accommodate up to six player games. Hand in hand with a higher player limit will be new AI training to handle games of each new player count above two. Currently players can purchase all cards from the base set as well as all cards from existing expansions.

And More!
The purpose of Early Access is also for us to find out what you want. We've heard you ask for a Card Gallery, taptips to get more information about game symbols, a tutorial, campaigns, improved async support, First Edition cards, smart plays, more AI difficulty levels, and more options for Kingdom customization. Please keep your ideas for features coming. We plan to set aside time to deliver on several of these ideas and more that you cook up throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of the game has all the cards from all expansions implemented with two player game vs AI or online multiplayer.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access price will stay the same when released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“In addition to the Steam forums, we have an active group testing, discussing and reporting bugs on our discord at: https://discord.gg/RBddmRGJWA. Folks can also email us at beta@templegatesgames.com.”

Dice Tower

“The grand daddy of deck building games. Its unique game play experience, combined with its short play time and easy to learn rules make it a big win in my book.”
Boardgame Quest

“You’re in for a treat. What else is there to say about Dominion, a game that has, in some ways, helped define the last 10 years of board gaming?”

About This Game

Dominion is the game that started a new genre: Deckbuilding. Winner of the Spiel des Jahres in 2008 and many other awards, Dominion has established itself as a true classic. With more than a dozen expansions currently available, players will always be able to find new challenges.

If you have never played Dominion before, start here with the basic game. There are millions of different combinations that can be played just with Dominion alone. Each game is different but only lasts twenty to thirty minutes. It's great for one player but just as fun with two or more players.

GOAL

This is a game of building a deck of cards. The deck contains your resources, victory points, and the things you can do. It starts out a small sad collection of Estates and Coppers, but you hope that by the end of the game it will be brimming with Gold, Provinces, and the inhabitants and structures of your kingdom.

GAME IDEA

You are a monarch, like your parents before you, a ruler of a small pleasant kingdom of rivers and evergreens. Unlike your parents, however, you have hopes… dreams! You want a bigger kingdom, more pleasant, with more rivers, and a wider variety of trees. You want a Dominion!

In all directions lie fiefs, freeholds, and feodums. All are small bits of land, controlled by petty lords and verging on anarchy. You will bring civilization to these people, uniting them under your banner. But wait! It must be something in the air; several other monarchs have had the exact same idea. You must race to get as much of the unclaimed land as possible, fending them off along the way. To do this you will hire minions, construct buildings, spruce up your castle, and fill the coffers of your treasury. Your parents wouldn’t be proud, but your grandparents, on your mother’s side, would be delighted.

Contents

Dominion includes three basic Treasure cards, three basic Victory cards, Curses, and twenty-six Kingdom cards. Kingdom cards like Smithy, Throne Room, Militia, Gardens, Witch, Chapel and Village introduce the cornerstone mechanics of Dominion and serve as archetypes for variations seen in later expansions. The major strategies of Dominion, including engine-building, big money, slog, rush, and combo can be traced to cards from this basic set.
