Why Early Access?

“While BOMTILES in its current state can be considered a complete game, my goal is to make BOMTILES a balanced, exciting, competitive experience for players of all skill-levels. To accomplish this, I am looking to work closely with the community, to identify and resolve potential balance issues, as well as design and develop compelling new features and game-modes!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently plan to have BOMTILES in early access for an indefinite period of time, while I work closely with the community to balance current gameplay, as well as design new features and updates based on feedback. I am also looking to finalize and distribute the game's "Ranked" mode (based on the aforementioned feedback). While I can't promise any final release dates, I can assure players that the game will always be free and available to play while I slowly work on development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While the current version is playable in a "Casual" format (Online Matchmaking, Online Friend vs. Friend, and Player vs. Computer), I am looking to add additional formats, including a Local / Hot-Seat Player vs. Player, and a "Ranked" Player vs. Player game-mode, using a dedicated server.

Additionally, I am also looking to flesh out the current item selection in the game, and provide more compelling features. I would like to implement a crafting system, that will allow players to combine multiple items into a single, more powerful item with unique effects. I also want to add multi-part / puzzle items, where players need to piece together different items to unlock their full potential.

Finally, I would like to add avatars to the game, which would allow players to unlock cosmetic items and customize their online persona. This system would be based upon the aforementioned item updates. Depending on feedback from the community, these avatars may also possess individual statistics that modify (and provide additional twists to) the core gameplay loop.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of BOMTILES is a fully playable game, complete with Player vs. Player, and Player vs. Computer game-types. There are multiple items to be discovered and used during the game, as well as an in-game Item Shop, for players to actively exchange / upgrade items. There are four locations available, to provide variety to each game, as well as a full "Experience" system, where players can level up their accounts simply by playing the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“BOMTILES is free to play! This is my first game, and the game is only exciting if people are playing. The price for the game will not be increased at launch. Anyone who wishes to support development of BOMTILES can do so by purchasing soon-to-be-released supporter packages, which will contain additional cosmetic items for the in-game avatars. Purchasing this content will not have an effect on game-play or strategy, nor is it required.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“BOMTILES, as a predominantly Player vs. Player strategy game, will be heavily reliant on community feedback in order to achieve balanced, exciting gameplay. This information can only be garnered through hundreds of hours of play, by multiple players, in multiple gameplay scenarios. I am also very excited to work with the community to design and implement additional items, features, and game-modes. As a lone developer, I am certain that community members will have numerous ideas that I haven't even considered.

About This Game

BOMTILES is an independently developed, highly competitive, real-time player-versus-player interpretation of the popular game archetype known as “MineSweeper”.

Bombs are scattered throughout the board, and it is up to you to find them! Uncover tiles to discover important clues, and be the first to mark their locations correctly! If you think a tile has a bomb inside, be the first to mark it, and claim its unique powers for yourself! Unearth the wrong tile, and you might just explode!


  • Uncover Clues – Bombs are hidden throughout the Tiles! Click them to uncover clues, and learn where the bombs are hidden! But be careful! If you reveal too much information, your opponent might take the bomb for themselves!
  • Discover Treasure – Successfully marking a bomb allows you to obtain powerful treasure, which you can use to directly affect the outcome of the game! Blast your opponent with Dynamite, or heal yourself with Potion! These items can change the game in an instant!
  • Visit the Item Shop - Not discovering the item you need? Exchange your hard-won treasures for Coins, and buy powerful new treasures mid-game!
  • Single Player & Online Player-vs-Player Formats – Hone your skills in a casual setting, by playing against the computer-driven A.I., or another random player online! Also supports in-game friend invites!

As the lone designer / developer, BOMTILES has been a personal project of mine for the past few months, and I'm very excited to finally share it with you!

I conceptualized the core gameplay for BOMTILES while playing various online collectible card games. I figured that the strategy elements from those games would be exciting to blend with a MineSweeper format; something that may be familiar enough to most people, but novel enough to challenge new players. My aim was to create something casual and laid-back, while simultaneously appealing to more intense, competitive individuals who are seeking to improve their skills.

That being said, this is my first foray into game development. I'm a systems engineer by trade, and have never worked to build a video game (let alone a competitive online multiplayer one). However, after tinkering around in Unity (and several false-starts), BOMTILES slowly began to take shape. Before I knew it, my close friends were helping me test the game, giving me balance suggestions and other valuable feedback (thanks, guys!).

The next step is to get even more feedback from YOU!
