What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Making it Home is a vehicle building game and we think Early Access makes creative games better in the long run. We have 3 main goals with Early Access:
  • In developing the final act of the game, we want to concentrate our efforts on the mechanics players are drawn to the most. During our beta testing player feedback dramatically improved our development direction and focus. We want that kind of thing to continue as we finish development.
  • Grow our community of players. We’ve already got a great community who were swapping tips and designs during the beta, we would love to expand that.
  • Make sure the game encourages you to be creative and keeps you coming back to try “one more design”. We’ve already been surprised and impressed by the designs beta testers have created - components being used in ways we never thought possible! But games that have as many moving parts as ours need some oversight to make sure certain designs don’t take over and become the only way to play.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Currently we aim to have Early Access last around 6 months, but we won’t release until we have achieved the three goals above. This all depends on how our community of players grows and reacts to the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

More content and more polish. Content of the game includes: more components to build your vehicle with; more challenges for you to build vehicles to tackle; and more story to discover. Polish will involve a lot of balancing, watching players play the game to figure out systems which are too complex or not explained well enough and touching up graphics and sound. We will also be adding more steam achievements and stats.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We estimate the game is two thirds complete as of Early Access launch. The build has 24 vehicle components in the game (some of which have multiple variants), 7 different challenge types you’ll face in the story mode over many levels, 2 boss encounters, plus daily, weekly and monthly design challenge leaderboards. The closed beta had roughly half the content of the early access build and testers were each clocking many hours of play.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We have no plans to change the base price of the game. We feel there is enough content in the game currently to justify its price, this was a key milestone for us to meet before launching in Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

As much as we possibly can - it’s the main reason we are doing Early Access. During the closed beta we received lots of valuable feedback from our community which has transformed the game. You can join our discord and look back at all the patch notes on the steam hub to see the kind of developers we are. We talk openly about our design process and aren’t scared to really get into the details. We already have a great welcoming community and would love to see more people join in.”
