What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to use Early Access to validate demand, gather player feedback, and improve the game’s core systems in real conditions. Definitely a Unicorn is built around co-op decision-making, investor meetings, sprint planning, task assignment, and reactive office events, and we want to keep improving pacing, balance, usability, and overall depth with community input while continuing development.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Definitely a Unicorn to remain in Early Access for around 2 years. This timeframe may change as development continues, but our plan is to use Early Access to expand the game’s systems and content, improve stability and balance, and iterate with community feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan for the full version to include more content, more variety, and a more complete progression loop than the Early Access version. This includes expanding the range of mechanics, events, project situations, and co-op interactions, as well as improving balancing, onboarding, presentation, and overall polish. We also expect the full version to offer a broader and more refined startup simulation experience based on feedback gathered during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version offers a playable core loop focused on building and managing a startup with friends. Players can create a project, prepare for investor meetings, receive goals, break work into epics and tasks, assign tickets, manage team roles, and deal with deadlines, burnout, and office events.
We currently consider the build to represent roughly 20% of our planned core flow. The foundation is playable, but content variety, balance, pacing, and overall game feel are still being actively improved. Players should expect an unfinished but functional experience that will continue to evolve throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We’re not planning on changing the price when we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use community feedback to help shape balancing, usability, feature priorities, and overall game feel throughout Early Access. We’ll listen to player feedback through Steam discussions, community channels, and playtesting feedback, and use that input to guide updates and improvements as development continues.”

About This Game

Definitely a Unicorn is a co-op startup management sim where you and your friends try to turn a rough idea into a successful tech company. Make decisions together, argue over priorities, survive deadlines, handle crises, and push the business forward before burnout, chaos, and your own brilliant mistakes catch up with you.

What to expect:

  • Co-op startup chaos
Every player is a co-founder. Share responsibility, react to events, and make calls before someone else beats you to it.

  • Pitches, investors, and deadlines
Prepare for key meetings, impress investors, and deal with high-pressure moments that can shape your company’s future.

  • Goals, epics, and tasks
Break down big goals into manageable work, assign tickets to the right people, and try to keep the plan together before everything goes sideways again.

  • Roles, team, and project knowledge
Every employee brings different strengths, and the people who know the product best can make or break your momentum.

  • Office life and controlled failure
Burnout, broken coffee machines, strange events, and constant trade-offs are all part of everyday startup life, where things rarely go according to plan.

Build your team, survive the chaos, and prove your project is more than just another disaster in the making.
