What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to involve the community in shaping the development itself. In today’s digital age, a togetherness of development and community is essential for everybody.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope it's out in under 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“First of all, this early version contains only (though quite many) tutorial and presentation levels. We now work on the full campaign with many maps in different environments with a story about searching maybe the last human-inhabited spaceship, Automatica. While it seems that the game about programming battle robots doesn’t need a captivating story, it does. Why else would you want to gather all data from abandoned spaceships?

We will also work more on graphics, sound effects, and of course music, as well as on Level Editor features. Level Editor is an important part of the game: all current levels are created there, and no external tools are needed. We plan to add many improvements and community functions, even during the Early Access period.

Features that should appear during Early Access:
  • Map sharing and ranking
  • New level editor and programming features
  • Campaign and story editor
  • User-defined functions
  • More ship types and environments

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Please be aware that this software is in early access as it is unfinished software. That means that there are bound to be bugs, unfinished features, and performance issues. The game is however stable and contains most gameplay features planned for the final game and many missions as well as full-featured level editor to create more.

Finished features:
  • Tutorial maps and levels to showcase all features
  • Full-featured level editor to create community levels

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan that the price will stay the same during all Early Access period and will rise once the game is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The level editor is an integral part of the game and we expect the community to show us how proper maps should look like! Like, really… Also, while Automatica is not meant to be a programming game, it is a programming game, co we are sure valuable feedback from programmers will come. It will be listened to.”

About This Game

DEEP IN THE UNIVERSE

After the final battle, humanity is gone, and you may be the last living being in this part of the Universe. Space stations and spaceships are still there, in the darkness, unmanned and maintained by pre-programmed robots. And they have data: something that may help you to find what you are looking for. Answers.

CREATORS

The game has started to shape as a hobby project designed by Viktor Bocan, design director at Warhorse Studios (Kindom Come: Deliverance), and former design lead at Bohemia Interactive (Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and more). It is now in the development by a small indie company called “Automatica Corp” under the direction of Lukas Macura, CEO of Cinemax, Prague.

THE TASK

You cannot enter ships and you cannot control your robots directly. The only way to finish the task lies in the art of programming.

Let droids board the ship…
…collect the data…
…and get out, destroying everything that stands in the way

YOUR MISSION

The task of each mission is to bring the requested amount of data back to the base and leave before the situation gets out of hand. For that, you need to program up to four robots to enter, fight, retrieve, and cooperate. Enemy forces are nearly unlimited, but they are weak, slow, and predictable. You are not.

PROGRAMMING

The programming language of Automatica is very easy to understand: if you are able to run a game on Steam, you are able to program a battle droid. (Winning the mission is not guaranteed.) Imagine you play a tactical strategy game, but you need to make all your moves ahead. Then you start the mission and watch your droids to rule.
