What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Deck of Ashes has been in development for a long time and there is already a lot of content in the game. There is still some mileage ahead, and we want to deliver the best possible game. We really want your feedback so we went Early Access!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to release the full version of Deck of Ashes in the second half of 2019. Stay tuned for updates!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Here are our plans for the full version:

  • More playable characters with their unique card sets and playstyles.
  • Epilogue, revealing the ending the Outcasts' story.
  • Another monster class.
  • Even more features related to exploring the world map.
  • New types of cards, hero talents, and much more!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment, many content has been already implemented into the game:

Tutorial explaining the basics of the game.
50+ different monsters that make for hundreds of unique battle encounters.
One playable character with several different playstyles to explore.
100+ unique cards for you to experiment with.
Dozens of Camp upgrades to fit your strategy.
4 Story Chapters, each featuring a procedurally generated world.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price of the final game will differ, and those who support us during Early Access will get Deck of Ashes at a discounted price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to actively engage our community in the development development in following areas:

Game balance:
Card games aren't easy to balance perfectly, and there are probably still broken combos and tactics lurking in the shadows. We encourage you to embark on a fun and creative journey of breaking the game. Your discoveries and feedback will help us balance out the dominant strategies and make Deck of Ashes as fun as possible.

We are constantly looking for new inspiration and ideas, and the dedicated community can help us find the ones that are the best fit for the game. Got a crazy card on your mind that would fit that particular playstyle? An exciting hero talent we've overlooked? A must-have Camp upgrade we didn't think of? We will be thrilled to hear from you, and who knows, maybe your idea will make it into the final game!

We set out to make a game that generates immense replay value, and that requires many subsystems and moving parts. With the cards alone (100+ playable hero cards, 200+ unique cards that monsters use) it's quite difficult to test all the possible interactions. There are many bugs that we might not have come across, and we need your help to make Deck of Ashes as polished as possible at the end of the road.”

Everything you need to know about Camp!

The old saying goes, “home is where the heart is,” and the same goes for our Camp in Deck of Ashes! We invite players to explore the one-stop-shop and home base in Deck of Ashes so that they are ready to face the devastation of the Ash Curse head-on!

Weary adventurers may rest their heads at the Camp, where all players’ needs can be met by a cast of various allied NPCs. These peculiar characters offer a whole lot of goods and services for pumping Battle Decks, health restoration, passive abilities, and more. Products offered by allies are updated every in-game “day,” so it is vital that one does not miss their opportunity to visit the Camp to recover cards for free or fully heal. The Camp allies include:

The Ash Master: As the Prophet who guides players to Lady Death herself, The Ash Master possesses the power to revive cards spent in battle, perform the Ritual of Resurrection that prevents permadeath (a service that is by no means cheap), and send cards to the Deck of Ashes, where they can be restored at any time.

The Herbalist: As a healer and alchemist of sorts, the Herbalist can restore a player’s health, treat diseases picked up while adventuring, and pump various key attributes, such as speed, strength, max health, and more.

The Merchant: As the Camp’s peddler, the Merchant can buy recipes and exchange certain resources for others. When upgraded, the Merchant can buy resources for gold.

The Blacksmith: As the Camp’s lifeline, the Blacksmith is responsible for creating cards that can be used in savage Battle Decks. Conversely, the Blacksmith may destroy cards, giving players a small out of Ash in return, which can be used for making other cards. Passive abilities and talents can also be acquired from the Blacksmith, such as the ability to increase the chance of a “critical hit” by 10%.

Upgrades can be purchased in a skill tree for each Camp ally using various resources collected while adventuring — certain upgrades could potentially change the very outcome of the game! An upgraded Camp ally will offer players more in-game currency for their wares and present higher-tier services.

A little bit about enemies factions of Deck of Ashes!

The vile creatures in Deck of Ashes embody the many facets of the evil and devastating Ash Curse that has ruined the land, and each location in the game is teeming with these horrors — from the Undead to rogue Human Cannibals — and you must know how to confront each foe, for unpreparedness means certain death!

In Deck of Ashes, each location is home to a different enemy faction. For example, Undead may be found in cemeteries, while Human Cannibals may be found lingering amongst the public in towns. The factions consist of:

Beasts(for example, Wereboar, Rat)
Undead (for example, Skeleton or Nosferatu)
Infestors (Spore, Plaguebearer)
Ghosts (Hanged Man, Shadow)
Humans (Cannibal, Rogue)
Demons (Succubus, Ifrit)

In the game, you can choose to either work at building a deck aimed at effortlessly defeating one specific faction, or you can choose to play as a jack-of-all-trades, utilizing a deck that is powerful against many different types of enemies. Adventurers should beware — the further you travel from Camp, the higher difficulty enemies become. Additionally, each class has its own strengths and weaknesses and is designed to counter different strategies. No one deck will yield the same results against enemies in differing factions and locations.

About This Game

"The Outcasts brought Ash Curse upon us all, and they are the only ones who can lift it." - Ash Master.

Deck of Ashes is an adventure rogue-lite game with thoughtful and tactical card battles. Lead the cast of antiheroes on a quest for redemption. Explore the dark fantasy world. Complete quests and collect cards for your unique Battle Deck. Put your survival and resource management skills to the test when upgrading your Camp of allies.

The choices that drive your journey - where to go, which resource to collect, which risk to take, and which card to craft - are the difference between success and untimely demise.

Can you rid the world of the Ash Curse?

  • Creative deck-building - collect combat cards that fit your unique playstyle and crush the enemy!
  • Unique hand-drawn eerie art style.
  • Dynamic dark fantasy world - travel through a procedurally generated, changing world in search for cards, supplies and glory!
  • Various biomes that harbour different monster classes - each biome affects the gameplay and offers a unique set of opponents!
  • Survival and resource management - you have limited opportunities to restore health or spent cards, so use them wisely!
  • Camp - strategically improve your base depending on your style of play.
  • Permadeath - unless you use the help of dark magic, then when you die, you die for good.

Deck-building done right

We provide you with the best deck-building tools we could develop. If you are a newbie - we got you covered, as there are sets of cards that obviously work well together. And if you are ready to go crazy with your own deck idea, there is a 100+ cards for each character to explore and combine. BEWARE: a ton of potential to go nuts with the unexpected combos!

Dynamic and dangerous world

Deck of Ashes features a procedurally generated world where danger waits around every corner. Sudden ambushes, cataclysms, and random events will force you to constantly adapt and explore fleeting opportunities to gain an edge! Refine your strategy on the go to ensure your survival!

Upgrade the Camp to meet your needs

Different strategies require vastly different upgrades of your Camp. The resources are scarce, and you won't be able to upgrade everything in one playthough, so choose wisely!
