About This Game

Nidhogg is the epic award-winning fencing tug-of-war, full of graceful acrobatics and clumsy stabs. IRL yelling and excitement may occur, in this ultimate two-player showdown of fast-paced fencing and melee attacks.

Beware, advantages in Nidhogg are often fleeting, as new opponents continually spawn in your way. Use a variety of fencing maneuvers while armed -- lunges, parries, and even dirty tricks like throwing your sword. If swordless, press forward with punches, sweep kicks, dive kicks, rolls, and wall jumps.

The combat arena stretches in both directions, although besting an opponent only gains you ground. Matches aren’t won or lost with a single kill, but with a series of kills granting you right-of-way to run/fight/flee to your own goal-zone.

Each arena holds different strategic formations and chokepoints to use to your advantage. Until you reach your goal-zone, anything is possible. Only one thing is certain in Nidhogg… the only way to win is to outwit your opponent. En Garde!

This game is REALLY fun! If you like platforming games and have a friend to play with, you will have hours of fun at a time. I've only played multiplayer with my friend so far so I have no comment on the single player but I bet it is equally as fun. I got it from a humble bundle (you only need to pay $1 on Humble to get this game along with two other fun games), and I am very happy with my purchase. I'm glad that I got a bunch of fun games and donated to charity all at the same time! My only complaint with this game is that it will occasionally lag in multiplayer, and will very rarely glitch my opponent one one screen closer to the winning screen sometimes. This is definitely not an issue with my very powerful PC or speedy internet, so I'm guessing it's just a bug that will likely be fixed. I highly recommend this game if you have friends. PS. It would be awesome if new maps are added on to the base game later in development to give it more variety. And just a pet peve of mine, it would also be nice if the game ran in full 16/9 ratio so I dont have the black bars at the edges of my screen

The game itself is fun, but way too expensive for this amount of content.
Plus it won't even start for some reason. I've asked the devs for help, but they don't seem to care.
I get this message after launching the game btw:

All I'll say is that Nidhogg is fun in local play with two controllers.
It handles odd on keyboard and the online multiplayer is unreliabe and filled with infuriating lag.

Overall it was worth it in the Revelmode Humble Bundle for a buck. ^-^

>fell down a hole against both the singleplayer AI and against my friend in online multiplayer
>both the AI and my friend won

I'm probably the only one who's going to say this, and everyone's gonna call me a crazy person for this but....

Can someone/you port this to Wii-U? I know, i know, console fan alert but seriously it would be extremlly fun and super awesome to be able to play this on ANY console. Like i would pay the price again to buy it on Wii-U, because i love this game so much. very fun to play with friends, near or far. 9.5/10 genuine.

Its quite a fun game. However, if you dont have a friend nearby to play with you, it gets boring pretty fast. However, if you do, prepare for lots of entertainment!

Nidhogg is a tight, fast-paced sword fighting game with surprisingly deep gameplay emerging from a simple control scheme. This game is a blast to play with friends, but be warned that local play is much smoother than the limited online mode. And while the single-player is pretty bare bones, Nidhogg is a blast to play with a few friends.

Fun bag of chips type game. Okay at parties, not much else. Even at parties it won't be the life of the party, but it might have a couple good bites. If you get it free or super cheap it's reasonably fun.

It is absurdly overpriced though. Also the online netcode is/was awful, leading to less people online and thus worse ping and a worse experience and ability to troubleshoot in a vicious cycle. Do not expect online to be fun other than to laugh at the jankiness.

I am not recommending this game only because of the price point. If you can get it for a buck or two, then fine. Otherwise spend your money on something better.

It's a great game IF and ONLY IF you have 2 controllers and friends to play with in real life. The online play isn't reliable the game feels really bad playing on a keyboard. Keep that in mind before buying.

Good one to keep around for when a friend comes over. Friendships can be destroyed very quickly by the ol' cartwheel across the screen

Online multiplayer is straight up broken. De-sync to hell, you win but the other player still sees you on the first room lol.

I love this game so much that I decided to join my school's fencing club, but I quit after I found out that the winner of a fencing match doesn't get eaten by a giant dragon. It's just not the same.

Even if the concept is nice, the online multiplayer is asynchron and makes this game unplayable.
I played with my friend and he would have to run left and me right AT THE SAME TIME.

These programers are rich because of this game and not intelligent enough to fix this bugs or implement a better online multiplayer.
But its a Game made with "GameMaker: Studio" so I guess this programmers dont even know real programming.

Too expensive, not enough levels, but addicting as frick! Nidhogg is a fast-paced tug-of-war style multiplayer that requires legit mlg pro fencing skills to win and I love it. I feel that the single player could have more variant modes, but I definitely recommend buying it for the local or online multiplayer when it comes on sale.
