What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“There’s a lot of players out there who loved to build these type of train sets when they were younger and it would be great to hear about what restricted them from building the very best train set they could. Having the community suggest objects will ultimately produce a much more interesting game. The game is very much a sandbox at the moment, but some would prefer a more structured experience and we'd like to hear from them what objectives or challenges they'd like to face in this environment.””

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We cannot say with certainty as we anticipate the suggestions and feedback from the community to see where they want us to take the game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Many more objects to place in the environment, new environments to explore, objectives to complete and we are also looking towards more customization options for trains, buildings etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The games track building systems are nearly complete, Players can operate and drive the train, there are a few objectives and a number of items to place which are both cosmetic and interactive.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase with substantial content updates. We will do our best to let the community know in advance so that they are aware of any changes to the games price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The game in its current state is designed to be quite modular. This means that the community can suggest object ideas in such a large number, we can then whittle them down into some great ideas that we would not have come up with ourselves. We will also be looking to support Steam Workshop which will allow us to play tracks created by other players and see what kind of exciting sets the community build.”

:romopolis_house: Buffer stop
:romopolis_house: Barn
:romopolis_house: Hay Bail

Finer object placement controls:
  • You can now rotate objects in amounts smaller than 90 degrees

  • Added a Constant Grid option to choose whether acutely rotated objects will stick to the normal track grid, or stick to one based on their rotation (so it can line up with others)
Boosted performance of the Save/Load menu, especially with many files
When you open the save menu for the first time ever after this update, there will be a potentially long delay/stuttering. Just let it run, this will only happen once and then loading will be much faster forever!

 Added some sounds for the Passengers Jump objective
 Added train camera keys to the Controls menu
 F10 and § can now be used to open the console for non-English keyboards
 All number key bindings are now duplicated on the matching Function key

:fix: Fixed Terrain Blocks sometimes clipping into objects placed on top of them
:fix: Water Blocks are now slightly lower than the others
:fix: Banned some special characters from save file names because they cause problems, and added more descriptive warnings if your name is rejected
:fix: Fixed some issues with the Jumps objective in Passenger mode
:fix: Fixed an issue loading scenery settings if you haven't played this session
:fix: Fixed Lamp Post 3 not having a night-time icon
:fix: Fixed Spawn and Scenery menus both being visible in certain scenarios
:fix: Placement snapping now locks to the standard size and rotation for objects which require track alignment (e.g. Stations, Corkscrew, Tunnel)
:fix: Fixed a typo in Terrain Block descriptions

:fix: Fixed the game no longer starting in Windowed mode by default

Ride the rails

Once you’ve created your rail network, you can ride along from inside your train, in first person. You’ll have full control of your vehicle in this view and will be able to adjust the train’s speed and direction. Your train’s weight and momentum are simulated, challenging you to maintain a steady but efficient speed while transporting passengers.

Build your own train sets at will, or enjoy the set game modes with objectives for you to complete. For instance, Tracks challenges you to design a rail system that accommodates passengers’ commuting needs. Build the most efficient rail network to complete objectives in the fastest time possible.

Varied environments await, acting as playgrounds in Tracks: The Train Set Game. Go off the rails, ride along the furniture. Each environment contains unique features for you to experiment with and incorporate into your track designs.

We are currently researching Steam Workshop support so players can share their tracks with other players online. We will update this section once we have a good idea of the functionality available after a few tests!

Tracks: The Train Set Game is everything the child in you has ever wanted. There are plenty of train games out there, but this is the only nostalgia-filled train simulator you’ll find on Steam.
