About This Content

The Class 444 is a superb modern image EMU for the Portsmouth Direct Line, and comes complete with Portsmouth Direct Line scenarios and plenty to keep you busy in the cab.

The Class 444 ‘Desiro’ electrical multiple units (EMUs) were built by Siemens AG in 2003 and 2004. Forty-five of these flagship sets were built to handle express services for South West Trains, as part of the process of replacing ageing ‘slam-door’ rolling stock so familiar to commuters in the south of England. After the teething problems encountered when introducing other new trains types in the UK, the 444s were subject to extensive testing at the Wildenrath test track prior to entering service. These 5-car units can run at 100mph on 750 volts DC, and with many realistic in-cab features, the Class 444 is a great addition to your Portsmouth Direct Line.

Includes

Class 444 Electric Multiple Unit in white south west livery, includes DMOC, PTOSLW, TOLSB1, TOLSB2 and DMOS units.
Features include moving sun blind, brake hold button (used for hill starts), desk light, Driver Reminder Appliance (DRA) and driver’s master key.

This train is a bit of a love/hate thing for me. The good things are: it's a 444, it comes with more than 3 scenarios for the PDL,unlike the 158 the lights work and it's a fast 3rd rail train. The bad: it cost me 11.64 AUD,the door animations and sounds are out of allignment, the licensing is missing(not DTG fault, Stagecoach problem) and the sounds are copied from the 450 in default PDL (I don't know if they're the same, but if they aren't, that's a shame). Overall 8/10

To be honest, there's not much difference to this Multiple Unit to the 450 that comes default with the Portsmouth Direct Line. Apart from one thing: the Brakes have been improved fantastically. There's no now need to throw the Brake's on to near 'Emergency' just to get a 10 car train to stop at a red signal. Plus, it comes with plenty of scenarios which, for the price, is always going to get a glowing report from me.

So... yeah. Not much else to say - it's there if you want it, but I recommend getting it as it does add a bit more life to the PDL.

This class 444 SWT add on is great. I find that it drives like the real thing with all of the sounds. The only problem to have is with the sound and action of the doors opening as the doors open so quick that it is not in order with the sound, this is a common issue with DT games add ons with some locos and units for TS.

I reconmend as it has some good features.

The Class 444 has always been my favourite train, and it is on Train Simulator. I would recommend it, but it has one issue: which is the doors, opening and closing extremely fast. I would also say, the Armstrong Powerhouse sound pack helps this train a lot! 8/10

Unquestionably the best EMU available on Train Simuator. It looks nippy, feels nippy and is nippy. 0-60mph takes barely 40secs, braking is amazing, undoubably the best of any train I have driven. You can enter a 12-car long platform at 60mph, put the brakes to Full Service (81%) and she will stop perfectly. In Emergency I'm surprised she doesn't rip up the track behind her, she stops that quickly. This train is far better for the Portsmouth Direct Line than the '450s', equipped with better brakes, a good First Class area and even a small buffet counter. Thorougly recommended for those who like quick off the mark EMUs, and those who want give commuters a more pleasant (certainly speedy) journey.

I would most definitely recommend this if you like the train and/or want to complete your PDL collection. Not forgetting that the brakes are actually working on this other than the unforgivable brakes on the 450! Like I said, you need this if you have the PDL!

Along with the 450, it's a pretty decent DLC. Get it in a bundle or on sale.

Ah yes, the 444. One of the better desiros available in game.
The sounds, like all desiros in game, are tolerable. Not as bad as the 321, in fact some of the better sounds from the creators.
The physics: Solid.
The apperence: Quality, however the lack of South West Trains branding is a bit annoying, as is the lack of passenger view.

So buy this train. Although I would recommend buying the UK collection if you don't have the PDL or GEML.

Felix.

Bought this as part of a bundle, great train. Good effects, looks the part from the exterior view. Easy enough to drive, great commuter train. Only downside, no window view. Don't let that put you off great addition on the third rail (electric) routes.

Would I pay list price??? Yes, if you own other electric lines, giving you more scope to use the loco.

Now get driving.....
