Cologne-Dusseldorf is a superb modern German route for Train Simulator, with hours of driving pleasure and many familiar landmarks along the way. Please note that this expansion pack has higher than usual system requirements due to the high level of detail.

The Cologne-Dusseldorf line is the first stage of the Cologne - Duisburg line, one of the most important and heavily-used rail routes in the whole of Germany. It is also a key route for regional and express services, with Intercity-Express, Intercity, Regional-Express, Regional¬bahn and S-Bahn befahren services operating along the route. Cologne main station was modified in March 2000 and is a major junction and interchange in the German railway system. A massive 280,000 passengers per day pass through, make it one of the busiest stations in Germany. Dusseldorf main station is also a major interchange, with 250,000 people visiting every day. Another major junction on the route is Deutzerfeld. It is a marshalling station for passenger trains, as well as a depot for locomotives and carriages.

The Cologne-Dusseldorf Expansion Pack is packed with detail and realistically-recreated landmarks along every metre of your journey. Enjoy the wonderfully realistic view from your cab as you handle an express between Cologne and Dusseldorf, past the Music Hall in Cologne and over the famous Hohenzollern Bridge, or past the large train yard and maintenance depot at Deutzer Feld. I completed all 7 scenarios with gold medals in this scenario and I would like to share my thoughts. First of all, buyers should be aware that this Add-On has some bugs like speed limit errors. However I would like to add that the bugs in this Add-On is nothing major, only minor bugs here and there.

Despite the bugs, I really enjoyed playing this DLC. The scenery is beautiful and those who enjoy driving an electric train, this is a must buy.

This piece of DLC is done by Aerosoft, Aerosoft is not upgrading this track anymore. This track is utterly bad, track signals are entirely out of place, some are not functional, tracks have speed limit errors, Quick Drive is entirely useless on this map because when attempting to start a session the train is set revers towards the end of the map and it's just utterly unplayable and feels bland.

I rate this track 0 out of 10. [Do not buy!]

The route is decent. It is quite detailed and may require more from your system than vanilla Train Sim. My parents had been to Cologne on holiday and they were able to point out their hotel and some other buildings they've visited, so you could argue it's quite accurate to real life.

The low point here are the included trains. The BR 143 used in the S-bahn scenarios specifically. There is no PZB support, instead you get AWS. The sound isn't impressive either. In one scenario, it was always applying a little brake, and I could do nothing to stop that. As a result, I could not pass the scenario on time, as the always active brake limited my max speed to 114 km/h. It was fine in another scenario, featuring the exact same train.

These S-bahn trains use a locomotive on one end, and a carriage with a cab on the other for push-pull operation. However, in the game you can only use the locomotive to pull trains. I'm sure there are addons now that let you do this, but they're not included here.

Get it on sale. Or better yet, get it as part of the "German Collection" pack, which includes another route, Munich-Augsburg, and a bunch of locomotives, at no extra cost. And maybe grab some scenarios off the workshop.

NB: I have not looked at quickdrive. I use the scenario editor.

To sum up: Not worth the full price. The route is good, the included trains are not.
