About This Content

The GG1 electric locomotive is a true icon of North American railroading, and now you can drive this impressive loco in Train Simulator!

The fantastic, futuristic shape of the GG1 has been instantly recognizable to rail fans around the world since it first rolled out onto the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1935. The GG1 (so named because it ran on an articulated pair of 4-6-0 frames, or ‘G’ frames in PRR terminology) was built by General Electric to run on 11,000 volts AC supplied by overhead power lines. It had twin crew cabs positioned some distance from either end of the loco with small windows for forward vision, giving a driving compartment much like conventional steam locomotives. The GG1 was a truly impressive locomotive, measuring over 79 feet long and weighing in at 475,000 pounds (215 metric tons), and capable of 100mph on lines like the Northeast Corridor. 140 were built for the PRR, eventually passing into new ownership and continuing to work for Amtrak, Conrail and Penn Central with several remaining in preservation today.

PLEASE NOTE: The GG1 requires the Northeast Corridor Expansion Pack (available separately) in order to run and play these scenarios.

Includes

  • Gg1 Electric Locomotive In PRR Livery
  • P70 Passenger Coaches

This is a great engine, unfortunately the route that this goes with is no longer available. That said, if you were lucky enough to buy this prior to 2014 great, but this doesnt mean "dont buy it".

This still feels home to the upper portion of the NEC: NewYork - Newhaven and is nestalgic running over Hell's gate bridge.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the NEC will be re-released after getting tracks relaid as running this engine on that route made me sea-sick (Also when driving the AEM-7). Also, I'm putting money on the NEC being retextured and bundled as a money-grab for TS2017/18.

In all, its a decent model. Have to understand this was released in 2011 so it was textured in an older version.

I reccomend that you get this along with the US Master Collection via GameStop, so it comes with the Classic NEC + the Acela. Also it's sort of a shame that it has an annoying long-loop horn like the SW1500 and the AEM-7.

7/10, Could be better. but it's old. What do you expect?

I am only making this review because THE NEC IS NO LONGER FOR SALE! I was luck to get it beforehand, though.

My headlight is a bit weird. I'm not sure if it's a malfunction or what. That's my only complaint. Buy it on sale it's so great

A very nice loco. Impressive looks and power. It has one of the best horns I've heard in the game. The scenarios are quite long (50-140 mins). Worth recommending.

Love at first sight. I saw one of these beauties at the IRM (Illinois Railway Museum, Union, IL) sitting there. Sadly people added graffiti by using their hands on the dust. It was sad to see the messages on it. xD
