What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We need to test the online matchmaking, balance characters, and add more maps before we can call it a complete game. We need more feedback to do those things, so we’re doing Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Hopefully 6 months at most.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We will be adding more maps, want to get character balance in a good spot before the full release, and take care of any bugs that are discovered. We will be making some tweaks to visual effects as well.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can expect a fully playable game. Many bugs have been ironed out, and the mechanics have been polished a lot. The networked multiplayer runs smoothly for us and everyone we’ve tested with, but we’ll see what bugs Early Access uncovers. The online matchmaking is sure to have issues at the start, as we lack the resources to stress test it.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Nope.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Jared likes to interact with people on Twitter (@PixelvexDev), and you can talk to us on the Steam forums. We have a subreddit, r/metagalacticblitz, that we will be hanging out in. Hit us up to tell us about bugs, thoughts of balance, and content/features you’d like to see in the future. All of these things will be heavily community-influenced, if you guys make sure to give us your feedback.”

Dev Plan - Tentative Full Release Date of 11/16

Hi everybody,

Peter and I went through our plans, organized our features, and picked out tentative release dates for our patches. We have a tidy view of them on the website: http:www.pixelvex.com/development

They are ALL subject to change, so don't expect these dates to be exact. Since this is an effort done in our free time, we thought making public development plans with tentative deadlines would be the best way to keep ourselves on track, and keep you in the loop.

Also, these are only the bigger patches that add content. We will be patching bugs and balance issues ASAP as they are discovered in between these patches. Also also wik, the content of the patches is malleable. It can be changed if it turns out everyone hates something in particular, or feels the game is incomplete without a certain feature. So give us some feedback!

Anyway enough disclaimers, here's the rundown:

Update 1: Map Select Rework, 6/29
We're going to do some redesign on the map select screen, so that match options are more visible. This is to make way for the new mach options we will be adding, and the special modes we will be adding.

Update 2: Optimization, 7/20
I haven't done a great job recycling game objects and preloading them, so I'm going to do some work on that to make the game run a little smoother on older machines.

Update 3: New Map, 7/27
Gonna add a new map here, will let you know when we have some prototypes to show

Update 4: Another New Map, 8/17
And another new map. We are thinking a total of 5 maps for the full release right now.

Update 5: Online Update, 9/8
We will be adding some quality of life things for online matches, and allow unranked matches to change all game settings (stock, game mode, the level, etc). This is just for Unofficial matches, so not the ranked queue, just the matches you invite a steam friend to or give out a lobby code for. The Host, or person doing the inviting, will be the one able to adjust settings.

Update 6: Misc Graphics Update, 10/6
We are always finding small graphics tweaks we want to make. We will be putting any new ones on the backburner until this update, where we will implement a bunch of them at once.

Update 7: Full Release! 11/16
The full release will add some secret updates, including:
-a secret
-another secret
-a big secret

We would like to keep our release date of 11/16 intact if possible. So this last update may be put off until after release, if we find that we are running out of time. We plan to keep developing after release either way, if there is still interest in the game.

About This Game

Metagalactic Blitz gives you that euphoric feeling of hurling dodgeballs, but adds the sci-fi weapons you wish you had in gym class! Powershot, reflect, dash, and blast your way to the top in this competitive arena game.

  • Deep dodgeball mechanics that encourage strategic gameplay
  • 9+ characters with entirely different playstyles
  • 1v1 online multiplayer
  • Online ranked matchmaking
  • 1-4 player local multiplayer
  • Original soundtrack by 8 Bit Cypher

Zomborg is a slow bruiser, excelling at guarding the middle and soaking up damage.

Lt. Justice has fantastic tools for overwhelming, constantly hurling his boomerang shield and backing you into a gravity bomb to set up for a kill.

Maxameleon gains the advantage slowly but surely. He can negate attacks while outliving his opponent as they weaken from his poison.

To master Zandra, perfect spacing is a must. The tip of her sword is especially deadly; swift and accurate combos allow Zandra to dominate the arena.

Discover more characters in game.

Metagalactic Blitz is a top-down physics based fighting game. Everyone shares some main dodgeball mechanics (throwing, dashing, and reflecting) and each character also has 3 powerful abilities unique to them.

Throwing

Dashing/Catching

Reflecting

Zomborg will be our example for abilities. He's a slow bruiser with an arm cannon. If his opponent is close, he can fire a shotgun to rack up damage.

Or, he can combo with his magnet pull for a point blank shotgun.

He can use these tools to zone the other player, by guarding the dodgeballs to gain the advantage.

If you didn't catch that, abilities require 1 power to use, which is gained from picking up a dodgeball. The balls are central to offense.

If his opponent is good at staying out of range, Zomborg can utilize his laser that charges passively over time to root them out.

As more damage is dealt, players are knocked back farther. Knocking them off the stage will eliminate them.
