What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is in a good state, but we want to make it bigger. We have many ideas in mind of things we want to add, but we'd like to get input from the community to make sure we are going into the direction our players want and allow them to ask for features that they think would enhance the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“That depends on many factors, probably between 4 to 12 months, we want to polish all the details before we release a final version, and we'll take the time we feel we need.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Mainly it will have more modes and levels. But it really depends on the community which direction we take, if players want more levels for the waves mode we'll spend more time adding them, but if they want more versus modes to challenge their friends instead of so many levels we'll work on that, or maybe the community wants more single player modes, then we'll work on solo modes.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“It has a mode for 1-4 players (cooperative) with around 90 levels and 6 bosses, and 4 competitive modes. Everything that's playable is in a nearly final state, during Early Access we'll work into adding content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The main idea is to keep the same price for the final version since we believe there is enough content and polish for that price.
However, we will keep listening to the community and we may adjust the price in the future to include a wider range of players.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll see how this works, but we'll try to have polls every now and then asking the community which direction they want the game to grow to (being more single player, more cooperative levels, or more versus modes, or who knows!), allowing the community to shape the game. We'll of course also take into consideration bugs and features the players may find and we'll prioritise them as best as we can.”

Survival Mode, Twitch, Demo & Nintendo Switch!

Dear Community!

Well, where to start? First of all: Thanks for your patience. We know, it has been a while since we gave you some new stuff for Flat Heroes. It has been a while, since we kept you up to date. And we're sorry. But there have been really, really, really (like REALLY) good reasons for that. And today we can finally talk about what has happened recently.

First of all we would like to announce the release of an all new update today. Which comes along with lots of new features and lots of new content. So, what is new?

Survival Mode
We have now included an all new survival mode. There are several levels available where you can try to survive as long as possible. We've got highscores, we've got plenty of challenges and heck, you can even tweet your scores right from within the game. And it creates cool gifs for Twitter, too!

Twitch Integration
That was tricky to include but we finally managed to do so. Yes, Flat Heroes now features Twitch integration. So if you have a Twitch channel and want to interact with your community, you can do that. It is a twist of the survival mode. And once you gave the game the needed infos, your viewers can vote on what should happen next in the level. And there's an exclusive leaderboard for Twitchers, too!

Of course, there's lots of other stuff. We've been tweaking and fixing days and nights. And Flat Heroes should now be even better. But you are still insecure, right? You still don't know for sure if you should buy it, right? Well! We've got a solution for that. There is now a demo available for Flat Heroes. Currently the demo can be found on Gamejolt and Itch.io. It will soon be up on Steam, too.

Nintendo Switch!
Yes. That's right. Flat Heroes is coming to Nintendo Switch. It's official now. And that is an incredible feeling. When? Somewhen. No date confirmed yet. But we can finally speak about it.

Flat Heroes is embracing the future with Comic Sans!

Flat Heroes, as a widely know game for its visual style based on the latest graphic design tendencies is moving forward to meet Comic Sans: the new trendy font of our era.

Flat Heroes has always been trying to be at the forefront of the graphic design tendencies following several visual style trends, such as flat design or material design. Now it's preparing to go ahead in this stream adopting the late 90s trendy experience: Comic Sans. With this move the company expects to be ready to match the top cutting-edge visual tendencies when Flat Heroes comes out of Early Access.

The first iteration with the new art style has passed all internal quality test and will be available to all our Steam players tomorrow 1st of April.

"The first windows logo and current one (10) have a similar style. In graphic design, as in many other arts, trends are cyclic" explains Lucas Gonzalez, visual artist of the project, "It's a matter of time that Comic Sans comes back stronger than ever, and then we will be ready".

Despite of the hate from the graphic designers establishment, Comic Sans was a revolution of its era. Initially designed for comic speech bubbles, the font quick broke these barriers and started expanding in any context of the society, from public services to police reports or commercial adverts or even sport trophies. Its simple and friendly style helps to communicate a clear message in a nice educated manner, allowing this font to replace other unfashionable options like Helvetica on the career for the perfect design.

But Parallel Circles doesn't stop there. Roger Valldeperas, main tool programmer in Flat Heroes, is working on a tool to integrate WordArt in the game engine:
"The idea was to implement a tool that allowed us to create a wide and fancy range of visual experiences. When we asked ourselves that question the answer was clear: WordArt".

As always let us know your thoughts and suggestions, and get ready to play with the new style, starting tomorrow. April 1st !

About This Game

Flat Heroes is a minimalist super intense local multiplayer game with cooperative and competitive modes for 1-4 players that features squares!

Flat Heroes is a minimalistic, super intense action game starring squares for 1 to 4 players. It features a delightful control that allows players to move around the scenario in a super fluid way allowing them to beat all the challenging scenarios that its cooperative mode offers.

The game also features four completely different versus modes for players to compete against each other or against the AI, each mode highlighting a different set of skills.

The graphic style is based on the latest graphic design trend, keeping a simple but direct aesthetic and polishing all the animations and transitions to create an eye candy experience.

- Can I play the game alone?
> Yes. The levels of the waves (cooperative) mode have been designed to be enjoyed solo as well, and the versus modes also feature bots to play against. But you can invite your friends at any moment! Call them if you get stuck! :)

- Will the game have online multiplayer?
> No. If the game sells well and we see an option we might consider it, but it's not a feature as of now.

- Can I play with controllers? What if I don't have any?
> The game has been designed to be played using controllers, so ideally you will need as many controllers as players. However, we have also added a keyboard-mouse control scheme for those who don't have a gamepad.

- Does it have a color-blind mode?
> Yes, the game allows players to lock a color scheme that suits their needs, during the Early Access we'll work with the community to make sure there's a color palette for each type of color-blindness.

- Is the waves mode too hard and frustrating?
> It's really accessible, the first levels are easy as you get introduced to the mechanics, and the game gets more challenging on the latest levels, especially if you are playing alone. But it gets easier if you bring in more friends to help you!
