This game has many flaws:
- Enemies are overpowered and come in groups so they're annoying. (Those guys that wear black are a great example of this. They take a lot of shots to kill, are fast, and they come in groups.)
- Puzzles can be confusing for a first time player. (Like that elevator one. How was I supposed to know you were suppose to climb up that tiny rope that nobody would consider important?)
- The story is lame. You're a soldier sent in to eliminate Gordon Freeman (According to the Store Page.) But like 10 minutes into the game the game just gives up on that and now you just have to escape. Also, I only recalled seeing Freeman once or twice.
- Controls can be weird at times but I've played games with much worse
- The game becomes a boring game of "peek-a-boo" with the enemies not too long in.
- Night-Vision is a cool idea but it basically just hurts your eyes and barely helps you see. I almost never used it because of this.
- Too many weapons to scroll through, and I didn't find a "Quick Weapon Switch" option in the options.

I honestly recommend you don't buy this game. Just play the original Half-Life.

Now this review is going to get negative votes mostly because the community can't accept that people can dislike this game.

Half-Life: Opposing Force is basicly about one of the grunts who were sent to the clean up project and he is imediatly thrown into the horrors of Black Mesa. but its got abit of stuff you are kinda misslead by. for example: he dosen't have to kill everyone. infact, he sorta needs them. its got good story and enviroment. speaking of which, you learn more stuff they were working on. its cool. and its only $4.99! buy it and its sure to meet your entertainment needs. it wont let you down sir or madam!

What can I say?

This game rocks, yet sucks at the same time.

I definately reccomend this game, but there are still problems.

A large problem is the atmosphere. At many points in the game, the music cuts off. You're trying to do an epic battle, all while it's just gunfire around you. You can't throw the realism card down, mainly because this game is unrealistic as all get out.

Another problem is honestly the enemies, although, this is probably from the fact that I suck at most FPS games. The Race X aliens are extremely strong, and they make this the hardest of the Half Life games to beat.

Also, Boot Camp for some reason will not allow me to pass it. I get to the sniper section, and I hit the targets, yet they don't go down.

Why do I reccomend this game? Because essentially, it's probably the most story fueled one of the Half Life games, and yet it gets so little attention. It's a good game, and Gearbox did well with it. It puts the story forward, and it gives some hints that perhaps the Gman is more sinister than we believe...

This is by far the best expansion to anything I've played.

Opposing Force not only offers new weapons and gameplay but some pretty freakin' unbelieveable features. The different soldiers you are able to command around was great fun to play around with and saved my life quite a bit in the game. The new special type of enemies unique to Opposing Force offer a new, fresh challenge to what the original Half-Life offered, as well as adding to the Half Life story brilliantly.
The game also has a good playtime, feeling not too short or long.

If you're playing through the Half-Life series, Opposing Force is a must. A MUST 10/10
Why does killing the staff of Black Mesa hurt my heart more compared to when I comitted way too many scientist murders as Gordon?! ; - ;

To be clear, I absolutely do NOT recommend this game for the singleplayer. It's a shame, because the campaign is something special. Like Blue Shift, it's a fun expanded-universe take on the original Half-Life, this time from the perspective of the Marines. As one of the first to be deployed, your helicopter is shot down, and you wake up around the time of "Forget About Freeman!" as scientists manage to help you. When G-Man conspires against you and makes you MIA, you're forced back into Black Mesa facilities on a somewhat short and very entertaining campaign. Aside from playing as one of the HECU units, you have NVG's, multiple new weapons of all different types, and a variety of new enemies.

This sounds, pretty great, right? Well, it would be... if it worked. Similar to a certain section of HL1, the pathfinding of escort AI are downright broken with the latest updates. The AI will drive you insane with its cosntant indecision and inability to follow you even up a single stair. It's a true test of patience trying to get anything done as the AI immediately decides you're too far the moment you get a centimeter off the ground or more than two feet away from them. After multiple instances of simply doing my best to put up with it, the game finally stopped sending me these broken escorts, only for it to glitch out on an elevator and get my feet stuck inside. My game ended there; this gamebreaking bug was something that I simply couldn't work around. Not even jumping before hitting the bottom could save me from an elevator crash.

This is a real letdown, as if it worked as previously I would unquestionably recommend it. Still, why is it still positive? MULTIPLAYER.

Aside from the once-great campaign is a fully revamped version of Half-Life 1's Deathmatch. Now including more maps, all the new Op4 weapons, and a TDM mode as well as CTF, Half-Life Opposing Force takes the original Deathmatch game mode and turns it up to 12. You'll have to work a bit to get friends or fellow HL1 nerds to join you, but it's absolutely worth the trouble for such a fantastic multiplayer game.

Aside from AI pathfinding bugs and the aforementioned elevator glitch in the campaign, the engine works very well on modern systems and will run on just about anything that supports OpenGL decently. Op4 hasn't particularly aged well from a technical standpoint, but it won't stop you from having a great time if you're patient enough to get around its dead community and singleplayer technical problems.
