Spawning a remake that doesn't suck? Sounds like good game parenting, something a lot of franchises, perhaps most franchises could learn a lot about. As the game that paved the road not only to Rome but also to success for an ongoing franchise it deserves to be bought and played and most of all, to be enjoyed!

(My game time was not adjusted due to compatibility mode.)

I usually only write a review when I am "done" with a game, but I am never done with this one. I played it when it first came out and still have fun with it. It is realy simple to MOD and needs some modding to get the balance right.

How to properly experiance Rome Total War.
Step one: Start a new game playing as the Romans, doesn't matter the family.
Step two: Decide how fast you want to get going by using cheats or not, usually depends onthe mood I'm in.
Step two: Create an unstoppable army, or two, or 20, depends how fast you want the world to tremble at your feet.
Step three: Send forth your armies into the lands of the barbarians, take their cities and sack them, burn them down, kill them all.
Step three: Once the barbarians have been eradicated completely from the map, head for Greece, the home of the intelects.
Step four: Send your armies to enslave the Greek peoples, beat them off their high horses and kill them slowly and painfully.
Step Five: Once Greece has been pacified sucsessfuly, wait till you have a plauge in one of your cities, you will soon see why.
Step six: once you do have a plauge in one of your cities, get unimprtant agents like diplomats there, keep them for a bit, them send them to the south, in places like Memphis, Alexandria, or Carthage, large cities.
Step seven: watch as thousands die from your own little biological terrorist attack, take it in.
Step seven: Send your armies to finish off Carthage, Egypt and Numidia, enslave their peoples too, and make sure to kil the pharoh.
Congrats, Romam regit omnia, Imperitor.

This and Medieval II are the best Total War games and I'd recommend them to anyone.

10,99 Euro including the DLC (which is a proper expansion) is a bargain.

From Rome HBO:

Titus Pullo: I have simpler tastes. I like to kill my enemies, take their gold and enjoy their women. That's it. Why tie yourself to one? Where's the flavor? Where's the joy?

Vorenus: Pullo, when is the last time you had a woman who wasn't crying or wanting payment?
