About This Game

Update 14: Strategy Cards

More than 20 new strategy cards have been added to Stronghold Kingdoms. Aimed at both new and veteran players, our August update affects all areas of gameplay from taxation to honour and warfare. These new cards, which can either be bought or acquired through gameplay, come in a variety of different flavours. Heavy Haulage boosts production of raw materials, Super Tax provides access to extra tax bands and Renown Philosopher instantly completes a large amount of research. Whether you're a card collector aiming to complete the Kingdoms deck or a warlord looking to deliver the killing blow, this new update has something for everyone.

Improvements have also been made to the attacks system, allowing players to set a list of rival targets through the world map and prepare more effectively timed attacks. Finally a Shield of the Week gallery has been created on the official Stronghold Kingdoms website, collecting and immortalising the years of work players have put into their in-game Coat of Arms.

Game Description

Live the life of a medieval lord in Stronghold Kingdoms, the world’s first persistent castle MMO. A unique PC Strategy game, Stronghold Kingdoms brings together online interactivity and community, with a richly-depicted medieval world and thousands of real world players.

Besiege the castle that’s never been taken, overthrow ruthless tyrants, bankroll your faction’s war effort, pillage your neighbour’s resources, peacefully raise cattle or do it all! A range of stats, rankings and achievements gives every player something to aim for, from ‘Banquet King’ and ‘Peacebringer’ to 'Besieger of the Month' and ‘Lionheart'! Factions, elections, liege lords and their vassals all provide a real sense of structured community, with many different ways to chat with other players, discuss strategies and build allegiances.

While an impregnable castle should be at the heart of any lord or lady's domain, you can also specialise with a vast research tree. Starting as a humble peasant, each promotion brings with it valuable research points to spend on trading, diplomacy, warfare, farming, religion and more. Be aware though, as your power grows so does your responsibility. Your vassals and parishioners will look to you for guidance and leadership. You may find yourself fighting for the crown itself!

Key Features

  • Build Your Online Stronghold – Crush the invading hordes with impenetrable castle defences. Then launch a counterattack!
  • Plot the Perfect Village – Plan your village layout, arrange buildings for maximum productivity and watch it come to life.
  • Explore a Vast Research Tree – Are you a farmer, trader, diplomat or warlord? Research new technology to specialise and gain the edge.
  • Fight For Your Faction – Join a faction, attack its enemies and return triumphant with their captured banners!
  • Play for Free! – Stronghold Kingdoms is free to play, so no subscription or upfront payment is required.

System Requirements

    • OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 (Windows Update Recommended)
    • Processor: 1GHz or Faster
    • Memory: 512Mb RAM for Windows XP (1GB for Windows Vista & 7)
    • Hard Disk Space: 150 Mb of Hard Drive Space

Love the concept of this game. FF just doesn't get it! Need to balance the advantage cards give the uber-spenders and those that can only afford to spend a few bucks a week.

This game had awesome mechanics, probably the best mechanics you could see in a MMO game. I played it for months without getting bored, it was really fun-- killing, upgrading, capturing, scouting, expanding, producing, destroying, gathering, researching...

This went very well until I witnessed something, I discovered later something in game...
There is "cards system" (yeah, it is obvious) and the cards are making this game PVP-unplayable if you don't buy them.

Rating: Free to Play 8/10
Rating: Pay to Play 4/10
Even EA would make this a more-playable game.

I have played Stronghold Crusader as a kid , now I am an MLG pro at the game. This is nothing like it , it's a f-ing timed game , that's what it is , and lemme tell ya. The graphics look choppy and the overlay is a mess , don't download this game , its a P2W game. On day one it's fun but then comes the p2w part. The balance so extraordinarily in the favor of the buying-system it's basically unplayable without spending a lot of money . What are you spending lots of money on? Cards that make your troops fast and buff like a afro-american , but now in all seriousness , it goes like this : The more cards you have, the more troops you have, the faster they move and the stronger they are. And what is the mess here ?? You can buy unlimited f-ing cards.
(SECOND ACCOUNT 500hrs +)

(TL;DR)
Cons
------------------------|
-Very time consuming

- Pay to win

- Bugs

-Non-friendly overlay
------------------------|

Pros
----------------------------------------|
+ Over 150 quests

+ 4 Big research trees lots of variety.

+ It's Stronghold
----------------------------------------|

I just can't reccomend it now , maybe in the future.

Not far from most strategy browser games Stronghold Kingdoms can be fun to play for a bit but it isn't likely to get you interested in the long run unless you intend to spend money with it. Just like most browser games things take their time and there is always a pack of cards to "help" you when money is not an issue.
Don't get me wrong this game is a good browser like strategy game, possibly one of the best, the problem is that it isn't more than that. I honestly thought it was something better when i first tried it but then i understood i had played similar things without using steam.
Either way you can always download the game and check for yourself, unless you don't start throwing money around it is still free to experiment :D

I approached this game with some hope that it would be a decent replacement for Lord of Ultima. Not only was this hope squashed, the game itself is quite poor and nothing more than a cash grab.

I fully expect all FTP games will have some cash incentives involved, it's the nature of the beast. People need to eat, pay their bills and try to have a normal life. I have no problems paying for premiums in a FTP that is actually good. This is something at a much higher level that shows itself as soon as playing through the tutorial. At least in this regard it is out in the open.

All I can say is that you can see for yourself, but I would save you a considerable waste of time.

I do reconmend this game.

Do i think it is p2w no. I myslef have spent 2300 hours in this game and i have not spent a single dollar on it. I have beaten people that have spent hundreds on this game, its not impossible to become strong without spending money, sure it takes you a bit longer but once you max out your villages there isnt a huge difference between you and them.

Stronghold Kingdoms is an excellent game, especially for a free-to-play. The game gives you control of your own vilage right from the start. The technics of the game are perfect for the era of time that the game is set in. Building castles out of cheap but easy-to-build wood or expensive but sturdy stone is only one of the concepts of Stronghold Kingdoms that you have control of. More intricate and complex characteristics include setting tax rates within your village(which has both positive and negative effects that must be taken into consideration), training armies to annihilate your opponents, and joining a Faction within a House. Overall, Stronghold Kingdoms is a great MMO that you definitely want to check out. I'd recommend it to a friend, personally.

Personally, I disagree with everyone who says that you will be better if you pay for crowns and premium tokens. True, auto scouting and trading is very useful, but let's be honest, you can gain that gold with trading in half an hour, if you know how of course. I had only one premium and it was when I started playing, didn't even knew what I was doing at first place, but as the time passed, the game became very interesting. Farmville more complicated? lol, you don't know how to play SHK then ;)
I got better because I was actually playing it, completing quests and communicating with other players in the world.
And yes, this is actually multiplayer game and yes, you can actually be attacked by other players. What do you know, it's multiplayer game, real time strategy game, it's not like in single player game, you save it and continue from there. This game has a very complexed mechanics to understand, so if you are not willing to think a bit what to do, then play candy crush saga.
Cards - those are helpful and I got those from completing quests, not buying them. And I don't use them at all, I just stockpile them just in case if needed.
Highly recommended to play.
