About This Game

Dark Void™ is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines an adrenaline-fueled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat. Set in a parallel universe called "The Void", players take on the role of Will, a pilot dropped into incredible circumstances within the mysterious Void. This unlikely hero soon finds himself swept into a desperate struggle for survival, joining forces with a rebel human group called The Survivors. Trapped in the Void, these resistance fighters are battling to hold off a mysterious alien race that plans to threaten Earth.
Dark Void’s unique combination of jet pack-booster aerial dog fighting and third-person combat brings a thrilling new gameplay dynamic to the third-person shooter experience. Taking 3D action to a whole new level, Dark Void’s unique vertical combat system allows players to dangle from thousand foot drops as they take cover and hurl enemies to their doom, bringing a whole new sense of tension and thrill to the player. Will is also equipped with a powerful rocket pack which allows for fierce in-air combat, hurtling through the Void at blistering speeds while shooting down anything that gets in his path.
  • Sci-Fi action/adventure combines aerial and on-foot combat for a totally unique third-person shooter experience
  • Will’s jetpack delivers total freedom of movement allowing players to race against UFOs in high-speed chases and rain death from above onto unsuspecting otherworldly foes
  • Speed and scale unmatched by any other action title: send Will zipping through tight corridors and then out into immense canyons and futuristic geoscapes
  • Gravity-defying vertical combat system, where moving up is the only way to bring your enemies down
  • Seemless transition between jetpack flight, ship-to-ship dog fighting and third-person shoot-em-up action all exists within the same level - not broken up into different "areas"
  • Huge bosses that require fast reflexes and aerial barnstorming maneuvers to defeat
  • Developed by Airtight Studios, a new group featuring team members from the Crimson Skies series of video games

Picked it up on sale and it was well worth it. Excellent battles and plenty of gameplay variation. Love the vertical platforming stuff.. can't fault it, really. Great game!

I'll put it simply:

-Unimaginative story
-Painful cutscenes
-Short, really short
-Ground sequences, while fluid, have way too much emphasis put on them
-Flying sequences are the best part of the game, there is just not enough of them
-Final boss/mission was over in 4 minutes and was extremely easy on hard difficulty.
-Speaking of difficulty, it was too easy up until it got nintendo hard in some places (TVTropes.org would explain that term)
-Too many quick-time events

Could have been a really good game but it felt like the devs were really lazy with Dark Void.
Really wanted to fly around more.

First of all, let me make it clear. this is a good game. But I don't recommend this game as I feel that it's not value for money.

-Good game
-I like the storyline
-Good flight combat
-Good graphics, considering that it's a 2010 game

-Game is too short (finished the game in 6 hours)
-Games of much potential, though it seems that the developpers did not fully utilise the potential available
-Limited variety of weapons available
-Limited amount and variety of enemies

The $9.99 price tag is probably not worth it. Get it during sales instead.

I reeeeally don't know how I feel about Dark Void. Gameplay wise it's quite fun, it hasn't aged too bad graphically in 4 years... but Yahtzee from Escapist sumed it up quite nicely... Dark Void was the game that had disappointed him most in his reviewing career - not because it was bad, but rather because it was ambitious. In stretches it was very engrossing, innovative and fun, but in the end felt both too short and too unfinished, as if the developers had run out of money or time or will. It really is a shame, I really wanted this series to continue... Oh and the fantastic soundtrack (albeit pretty small) was composed by Bear McCreary, composer for Battlestar Galactica. I think I know where a great deal of the money went now... I only recommend this because I had fun playing it... it certainly won't be for everyone.

I do not highly recommend this game, very very buggy. Within 2hours of playing this game I have encountered nnumerous glitches that you cannot get out of. My character would freeze in a certian location not allowing me to move or do anything, Therefor I would have to restart the WHOLE level, since there is no checkpoints. Very annoying. I highly dont recommend this game unless it is on sale. Not worth the $10. I would rather buy a half gram of weed than this stupid ♥♥♥ glitchy game!

Steering feels like hard work, both when using an xbox controller, as well as mouse/keyboard. It takes ages to aim, the controls sometimes feel like they're not responsive. The playfield, ostensibly open, is actually a box, and when you hit a wall, you just flip and turn around, which is extremely confusing when flying.
Stability-wise, it's a buggy mess, you can't even minimise it. There is no full screen/window toggle option anywhere in the menu (fortunately, alt-enter works).
Last but not least, when you start the game, before you get to see any menus, you have to sit through an unskippable slideshow, which includes ads from nvidia and alienware.
All in all I would not recommend it, although I hope to one day find the patience to enjoy it like the people who gave it a thumbs up.

One of the best (and underrated) games I've ever played, however... It gets too tough after a few hours because of the QTEs (quick-time event, meaning you have to push the right keys on the keyborad just on time; yeah, I do know that's pretty stupid). But shoting and flying is very rewarding, brings loads of fun. Also note that this game is not easy, not for "casual players"; oh, no!

- interesting story
- interesting characters
- great action (fighting, flying)
- great graphics
- great physics
- you vs. bad aliens from space ;)
- may be difficult

- too difficult sometimes...
- ... especially with those stupid QTEs

If I could, I'd buy it once again!

Don't get me wrong the game is fun for what it is but the whole thing feels rushed to release.
The numerous amounts of bugs and errors I've encountered from the get go indicates the type of game it is.
The flying sections in the game are very enjoyable however the rest of the game such as gun to gun combat are almost pointless are you can simply run up to enemies and press E to one hit kill them.

I wouldn't recommend this game if you're looking for a good GAME to play, however if you like the novelty of flying like I do it's something you should consider looking into.

EDIT - I've recently finished the game and it feels very unfinished, the game ends suddenly with the final boss and plot of the story totally feeling cut off like they ran out of funding.

This is a game with pretty lousy flying controls but otherwise is a more than competent third person shooter when you are on ground which thankfully is more than in the air. I remember trying this when it first came out back in 2010 and it was really bad and deserved all the bad reviews it got. However after several years of playing a lot of bottom of the barrel third-person action games, like for example Velvet Assassin and Dark Sector, this has actually aged well compared to those pieces of ♥♥♥♥. If you really are honest about this game though, there is one major reason that it still deserves its low metascore: some of the worst flight controls ever. When flying with your jetpack, mouse control is horrible. Thankfully there are a couple things to help remedy it. Remedy, not go away, unfortunately. Using a xbox 360 controller is out of the question because of a horrible hyper acceleration problem when moving the camera with left stick, which I have seen in other games as well including Binary Domain. So you have to use mouse and keyboard unless you are a clueless ret@rd and can't notice the issue when using a controller. So when you are flying you can hold down S to slow down thank God, or hit spacebar to start hovering. I had to mess around for a bit with sensitivity in game and in air before it was comfortable and ultimately had to set it from the normal 1500dpi I have it set to in my razer synapse down to 700dpi for this game. Also, again thank Jesus, when you are near an enemy flying saucer you can press E to grab on to it and begin ripping off a panel to short its circuits while dodging its fire back and forth trying to knock you off which is actually pretty cool, and after a minute you actually jump in it and can fly it and use it to do combat with. To make it so I don't have to do the whole aerial sequence while using my jetpack since flying controls are sickeningly bad, I try to mount and take control of as many ships as I can and bail out of each one and crash it into a mountain to defeat it. Yes, it is that hard to aim properly at a enemy target in combat that you are better off taking the time to do all of that.

All said, the ground combat is fun. I pray for the whole game to be mostly ground combat. Nothing special about it, standard assault rifles and laser weapons and grenades, but it feels so much better than flying combat. It has good combat mechanics for the most part. The game has good smooth colorful graphics and good effects.

Because of its wonky flight control feel, the game is held down big time. Thankfully though with patience you can get it done and thank god for solid ground combat. Slight mouse stuttering from a issue with vsync which is not uncommon for a lot of games like this, is not even close to as bad as it is in some other games, so that gets a pass.

I have yet to see any technical issues and so far am having fun with this game. 7/10.

The gameplay was fun and the game's storyling kind of sucked "The prophicied one comes to save everyone etc." and was a ted short and it looked as if it were planned to be a longer game but had to be cut short at the end

A game that is under-estimated! I maxed the graphics on my GIG heavy PC, played the game on my wall through projector; WELL, the results are good! They were wanting to make a film out of this with a few HARD HITTING names interested! Let's say so much, THEY liked it - so your curiosity MAY be stoked. It is SO good! I think I would'nt be dismayed with a sequel to this game! It's 3rd person, Nikolas Tesla is in the game (hello history). The story is deep enough for more-as I said earlier a sequel is welcome from my side! How does it play? Sometimes like a blend of SNIPER ELITE V2 or/and JUST CAUSE 2, only fantastical sci-fi (aliens in jungles with air-combat from ww1 and sometimes a little bit of the feel of TOMB-RAIDER [one of her weapons-the ak-47 like rifle] )!

Game on!
