It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory,” which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.

In Scythe, each player represents a fallen leader attempting to restore their honor and lead their faction to power in Eastern Europa. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.

Each player begins the game with different resources (strength, victory points, movement capabilities, and popularity), their choice of several faction-specific abilities, and a hidden goal. Starting positions are specially calibrated to contribute to each faction’s uniqueness and the asymmetrical nature of the game.

Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Other than each player’s individual hidden objective card, the only elements of luck are encounter cards that players will draw as they interact with the citizens of newly explored lands and combat cards that give you a temporary boost in combat. Combat is also driven by choices, not luck or randomness.

Scythe uses a streamlined action-selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay moving at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. While there is plenty of direct conflict, there is no player elimination, nor can units be killed or destroyed.

Every part of Scythe has an aspect of engine-building to it. Players can upgrade actions to become more efficient, build structures that improve their position on the map, enlist new recruits to enhance character abilities, activate mechs to deter opponents from invading, and expand their borders to reap greater types and quantities of resources. These engine-building aspects create a sense of momentum and progress throughout the game. The order in which players improve their engine adds to the unique feel of each game, even when playing one faction multiple times.

This is a great game and this TTS porting is just as beautifully crafted as the 'real' one. A lot of attention to details has been put in this DLC. It is a great alternative to the tabletop version when your gaming pals are not available in person, and it plays great solo as well.

By far the best DLC out so far for TTS.

The game is a real gem. You have to love that the games chosen to be DLC are all interesting and weird.
I'm pretty sure this is from (or at least is somehow connected to) the guys who made Euphoria.
If you've played that, you've got a good idea what this game is about.

At its core, it is a resource management game with 5 (Eventually 7) factions.
Each has their own abilties (1 Faction based, 3 Mech based).
Speaking of the mechs, they're there to add a bit of a combat edge so the game can distiguish itself.
But make no mistake, guy, gal, or genderfluid squids, combat isn't really a huge thing in this.
It tries to go for a mandatory balance of combat and farming resources (except for the Saxons), meaning don't treat this like CIV and think you're going to go warlord Ghandi.

Anyway, going into some kind of negatives, the board obviously looks confusing in parts (you know, with the Euphoria connection)
But it is oddly simple once you read the easily available in-game rulebook.
You might have some issue trying to explain things though.
Other than that, I only have a small pet peeve about the 2 expansion faction's bases being on the board without them being in the game.
I know, I know, pretty insignificant and I understand why it is like that.
I'm just a loser that way.
You definately want a friend for this because that 1-5 thing is definately a lie.

But you should get this game. The DLC, so far, has been fairly priced so it's well worth the money.
If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to leave 'em

It should be mandatory to have your rules in game and in that form to be paid DLC
(And Maybe fix some of the older DLC to be like that...just a thought)

Pretty sure this was already on the steam workshop and pulled down to be converted to DLC
That being said this is a super fun game that is worth spending some money on. It's fairly difficult to learn however, because it has a lot of information to try and take in universally.

The artwork is great, the theme of the game is very enjoyable, and it actually allows for solo play if you so choose.
Turns are very fast paced unlike similar games, and there are pros and cons to combat unlike similar games as well.

The game has too many objects though, and it causes crashes for some folks, serious lag on loading in, etc...
Also the cards in the hand clip through the mats, which gets annoying.

EDIT: I came back and I have to warn you, that it's VERY unstable. It is CONSTANTLY pushing the ram limit and causes frequent crashes. It's frustrating and we are trying to play but people are constantly dropping cause of crashes making it too hard to progress.
I wouldn't buy it right now, but I still recommend the DLC after it gets fixed.

For a paid DLC, it brings a lot of aesthetic eye candy to the table that works perfectly. The game itself is great; in a growing collection of board games that end after a certain amount of rounds, Scythe is a welcome addition that ends when any player reaches a certain amount of prestige (in the form of stars); therefore making the average game time longer than most of the round-based games.

The first time you're playing, you'll find yourself consulting the rulebook a lot because there's a lot to pick up on, but after one game I feel you'll have a perfect understanding of what you can do and what you can't do.

Yes, it's also on the workshop, but I feel this DLC package is so amazingly implemented, you should consider picking this up if you've been following Scythe on Kickstarter. Don't forget: only the host needs a copy; up to 4 friends can then freely jump onto the wagon and join you.

-mind-blowing artwork all around; cards, factions, heroes, models, tokens - everything
-great fun to play; there's a lot to do/focus on
-various win conditions (you decide which 6 prestige areas you want to focus on)
-every faction (and its hero) is different enough to offer replayability
-the random distribution of both faction *and* player mats ensures you're going into the game differently most of the time
-aside of the heavy war theme, some options on encounter cards are really funny
-the deceptive element of combat can lead to some interesting outcomes (i.e. manipulating combat through combat cards)

-not round-based (could be a pro if you're looking for such games, like me, but could just as well be a con if you're not looking for such games)
-the average game time with 5 players is estimated at 115 minutes; could be a con, could be a pro

-first time playing, you'll be spending most of your time checking the rulebook (but then again, this is the same for any new game you're picking up, I imagine)
-actual, physical copy of the game releases approximately in September 2016 (not really a con, of course...but it makes you feel sad you can't pick it up sooner!)

In short: this will keep you occupied until September, hopefully!

I enjoy board games and someone showed me how to play this game in TTS (Tabletop Simulator), I decided to purchase this game because it's different from other board games, it has the innovate way if you ever have to combat with others players using power system and combat cards so you can bluff your enemies or they bluff you (>.<), the player's turn are fast, one thing I like about this game is the variety of factions and player mats which allow the players to create new tactics and strategies with each Scythe match.

If you are interested what this game is about, here is a quick summary. You need to achieve 6 stars to win, which means you successfully created your empire. You can earn stars by 10 different ways (only two stars can be achieve through combat) so each time you play you can change the tactics to achieve stars. Each player need to use their turns as much effective they can, in order to get more stars faster that others. The game ends whenever any players achieve 6 stars but that doesn't mean that player won, because when the game ends all the players will count their coins (several scoring categories to get coins at end of the game). Sometimes the player that gets more stars is not the always that win the match.

So if you like strategy games when Random/Luck is not involved by rolling the dices, when your tactics and awareness of next players moves gives your advantages, unexpected moves to catch off guards others, steal resources from others players, then this game is for you.

Come on!! and join Scythe Universe to become the ruler of your own empire in this alternative story in 1920!

If you purchase this DLC, look in the workshop for the scripting module Shaul Tzuar created (many players are use it due to the scripting he created for the setup phase)

This is the first DLC that I've bought for tabletop simulator, so I can't compare the DLC to any of the other ones that are out. This one is well worth the little bit of money if you would like a game along the lines of Civ with added quirky rules to fit the setting. The whole concept is that you are one of a few factions within a time frame that is after a great collapse has happened. Each of these factions has their own play style based on special abilities that you start unlocking towards the middle of the game. That means that you learn and adapte to the play depending on the faction you draw as well as the type of civilation that you have for that faction as the moves change depending on the random draw at the beginning of the game. Then it becaomes something of a free for all giving you enough rules to keep on track while letting you come up with your own ideas to win. This can include bribing, creating alliances, and betraying the other players if it would benift your faction's goal of having the most resources at the end of the game. As long as you have one other player, I would suggest picking the game up to have a fun evening of messing with each other. The game does include rules and cards to play one player games, but I preferred to have another player to take away the confusion and work of having to work the automata's turns. The last thing I would like to mention is the adaptation of the board game to tabletop simulator. It's all here including the box itself, rule books, and beautiful artwork. The game also has built in snap points to help place pieces to keep from having to fight with the game's physics to get a piece in the right hole. There's floating text when hovering over any of the areas, mats, or pieces to give instructions to help with beginners and refresh your memory while playing the game. Me and my friend has enjoyed it enough for me to make this review.
