The cheerful, happy Mimpi is back is in this sequel by independent gaming studio Silicon Jelly

While his owner is away we get to explore his colourful vibrant dreams again. As enthralled as I was with its predecessor I still had some issues with it. My main issues were to do with it being an android port. This was addressed with this sequel which was designed as both an Android and PC game.

The artwork in the original was lovely but this is a significant upgrade The artwork is sharper, brighter and looks smoother. The voice effects also sound better. Mimpi can now take tinkles on checkpoints… no cleanup needed!

The developers clearly made the decision to take the challenge out of the puzzles in this follow up. I played the latest Factory level in the game and the difficulty hasn’t changed There is also a controller bug in on one of the puzzles in that level. This appeared to be addressed in the challenge mode, where you only have one life. However, as previously mentioned with diluted difficulty you have to question how much of a challenge it is. I can only speculate the reasons for this but personally for me this was a disappointment.

Regardless you will find this casual, light puzzle platformer extremely cute, charming and relaxing. If you are looking for something to play a few hours and leave a smile on your face you can’t go wrong with joining this little dog’s dreams.

My conclusion is that I can’t give this a negative review because of lack of more challenging puzzles. This is still quality game riding with a lot charm. I don’t regret playing this but given the choice between this and the original? For me its Mimpi not this one.

When you purchase the game you will also get free updates as new levels are finished. This game is also an easy perfect game for achievement hunters. I personally hope that in the future if they decide to another Mimpi or update in the future there is an option of more challenge or it is increased.

I purchased both Mimpi games at full price and didn’t regret it. Since then the price has been reduced. If you don’t own any of these games and you think that this game is for you would be barking mad not to pick up the bundle deal at the steam store:

A relaxing, cute and imaginative experience is what you get with Mimpi Dreams. At its core it's a mild puzzle-platformer, in which you can directly control the titular doggy through varying platforming challenges. Along the way, you get to control elements in the environments via the cursor, which involves some mild puzzle solving.

Both platforming and puzzles are very easy and for those who require it, there are lightbulbs to collect which can be exchanged for tips at the varying puzzles you’ll encounter. The game is less about actual challenge and more about drawing you in with its aesthetics and this it does well. Every level represents a dream and the vector based, layered graphics really supplement this well.

The biggest problem the game has, is that it’s really short. At this moment it features 5 levels, with the promise of more (free) levels in future updates. These initial five levels can be played through within an hour. This one hour offers an amazing experience however and the longing for more in a way, is a huge compliment to the actual quality of the game and in particular how well it manages to draw the player into its different settings.

At the full price point, it’s a bit of a hard recommendation to make for the amount of content you’re actually getting at the moment. However, if you do end up picking it up, you’ll find a fun little game to go through while it lasts and hopefully we’ll see more levels down the road to showcase more of the creativity from this team. I’d especially recommend this game to those with younger children, people fairly new to video games or just those who enjoy experiencing different artistic expressions, who are less concerned with finding actual challenge in games. For those people, this is a must, at least during sales.

See my video review for a full impression.

Mimpi Dreams is a casual platformer with some minor puzzle aspects, about the heroic adventures of a dreaming dog.

Check out my Quick Review:
Each of the 6 levels acts as its own story illustrated by speech/thought bubbles. The underlying story for each level is Mimpi showing up and saving the day. The game is very casual. You bark at, and interact with objects in the background to help you progress through the levels.

  • the controls are customizable, and the game has full controller support
  • cute graphics - the 2D animation is simple, yet colourfully done
  • casual/kid friendly game, with simple gameplay and hints

  • some of the whistling sounds are a bit annoying (a volume control setting for music and sound effects independently would have been helpful instead of just an on/off toggle)
  • very short game

There are hidden secrets that you can discover, as well as other, more easily found collectibles to earn achievements. Once you find everything, there is little to no replayability.

The entire game took me a bit over an hour to complete all 6 levels. The price on Steam is too high to pay for the game’s current content, so I would definitely wait for a sale. Currently, the game is also available for Android and iOS. If you’re looking for something short, casual, or kid-friendly, Mimpi Dreams is a cute game, and it was fun to play while it lasted.

Review copy was provided by the developer.

Interesting Concept and great art style. You are immediately launched into the game with not a lot of background on what's going on, they explain the events through pictures in speech bubbles but I was ultimately confused to what was going on. I liked the game mechanics and all of the funky and cute little creatures scattered throughout. The game does get harder as it progresses but beware, the game is extremely short. I put 0.3 hours into it and I'm already 32% in, even after I missed a collectible. You can watch the video above if you wish to see game play on it. So the cons are the price tag, the length and the unexplained story, but I bet you any child and some teens would love the game.

A Puzzle Platforming Adventure
+ As a sequel, this game keeps all the charm of the previous while also making many improvements (In other words, if you enjoyed Mimpi, you will certainly enjoy Mimpi Dreams)
+ Very colorful, lovely graphics / art style
+ The pacing in this game seems to be much better than the last, you quicly move from puzzle to puzzle, and each level seems to add new themes and puzzles to keep things interesting throughout the game.
+ The "hint" system is fantastic allowing you to earn hints as you go to use when you get stuck on a puzzle (although the puzzles are pretty simple to figure out on your own)
+ Very interesting worlds with quite a lot of detail with parallax scrolling added to multiple layers of the foreground and background

- The more difficult platforming sections are a bit tedius with WASD controls, you "could" use a controller but then the point & click sections become more tedius. This is a small issue that doesn't really take away from the game.

Unfortunately the art style can´t save the game since it´s not effective in the use of playing the game with controller, also it´s unnecessary extensive use to control different objects ingame that could have been solved more practical like in Rayman Origins or Limbo. It seems it wants to be both a platform game and at the same time a point and click adventure, Like there was a conflict in the developement group.

I actually recommend this game, see a gameplay video first, not
the trailer only like I did, perhaps you also will be dissapointed if you
do buy it without checking one first.

My heart melted a bit into the game..its the cutest thing I seen in a long time.
Both me and my girlfriend think its very adorable and heartmelting O_O

+ Very appealing visual style that capture the eyes.
+ Lovely soundtrack
+ Interesting storyline/enviromen, very cute
+ Works well to have 2 controllers connected and co-operate
together with controlling enviroment and the dog att the same time.

+ You can choose all different areas of the gamelevels without completing them ( the symbols on top are the levels )

- Very odd not practical control scheme for controller, It feels old and not fluid/optimized in the controls.
Puzzle parts on first levels are a bit crappy to play with controller, seems made for the keyboard/mouse player in mind only and that
controller support was a last minute idea before the release.

- Can´t zoom into the game to see more of the wonderful artwork

Just like the original Mimpi, the game has cute graphics, fun platforming, and neat puzzles. The price isn't to high and for the experience you get it's definitely worth it. I loved playing this game and I can't wait for more levels to be added! Good job Silicon Jelly, keep it up.

A fun cute game for all ages! This cute beautiful colourful puzzle platformer is a must have for all casual gamer fans! Granted the puzzles won't be difficult for those over a certain age but that doesn't matter, the journey is a joyous enjoyable experience that makes you want to continue on just to experience the fantastic artwork that is Mimpi Dreams!

Is this game worth it?

No. It's entirely P2W.

Every single level requires you to P2W.

I mean, seriously, what kind of dog can pee so much, he can win?

I really hope for more levels, this game is very nice!

Mimpi Dreams is very cute and creative. The puzzles aren't that challenging but they're still fun to solve. The animation is smooth and the artstyle is very charming. It's a short game that only has five levels as of now but I'm hoping there will be more in the future. I'd recommend Mimpi Dreams if you just wanna spend the afternoon chilling out and playing a nice little game.

Review: 4/10

NOTE: I've recently gotten ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over the fact I payed $9.99 for this game, and when I beaten all the levels (yes, even the new level) making my time over 3 hours, then waiting for what they promised more levels, only getting one level over the 14 day period, they make the price $4.99.

~ It's fun (for kids) +1
~ Cute artwork +1

~ The ♥♥♥♥ing price change -3
~ The puzzles are awful(can you even call them puzzles?) -2
~ The New Levels Promise. We only got one new Level. - 3
