Looks good. Everything else is S.H.I.T.E.

When you think NFS Underground 2 or Carbod had bad physics, think again. This one is BAD.
Game should be called DRIFT, not GRID. i mean even effing 4by4 subaru or lancer is spinning and drifting on every corner, and god forbid you to touch the wall, u will be making 360 turn x10 times in no time.
Flip the car over the roof x50 times - no problem, just touch that curb at slow speed.

But man, graphics are good.
Grid Online menu is crap. All those tiers and how to join particular game level? Dunno. VERY CONFUSING MENUS.
Online challenges are fun.
Weekly rivals WTF??!!!!!
Finding online game is like finding Nemo (proably less sun tho).

What else? oh, music - fine , good soundtrack.
Make sure you turn off Voice volume, really those comments are annoying (but that goes to every Codemasters game, like DIRT, etc.)

6/10 overall, and really just bought it because sales.

played Grid 1 ages ago, but cant rememer it being so bad. Was it?

anyway, this one is probably worth 12 bucks with all DLC.

or was it too much Forza for me over last few years :)))))

Gonna try Grid Autosport, see what its like.

If you're running with polish people you're ♥♥♥♥ed.
They'll ruin everything, your race and your life, so, if you have polish people in your race just quit cause is just ramming all the time.
Beside that the game is really good, buy it.

This is an amazing racing game, and for people who say it controlls like ice try taping the a or d button in stead of holding it, you will have better control, and dont hold gas when you are drifting through corners

Just bought on special, wish I had not bothered. I am sure if you stick with it you can get some enjoyment out of it, but for me I if dont gel with the experience fairly rapidly its all over and after half hour fannying about with it, I hate it.

Such as, jumps you right into a race, no chance to check your options for graphics etc, which I find pretty weird to be honest, so I had to wait untl the 'it takes forever' intros and long winded cut scenes at the start of the game/race, none of which I managed to avoid or kill, then wait for the race to start, and then pause the race just to modify options such as resolutions, vsync etc...very crappy...

Controls, supremely crappy, its way way way, way, too slippy out there, and I play Dirt 3 so I dont mind some drifting, but this was just ridiculous, and of course, at this stage (dont know if you can later on) there is no obvious way to modify the vehicle setup so you can at least try to get it to work with the way you like drive in game.

Other stuff that started to annoy me, what a load of long winded blah blah blah from the commentary about how you can youtube your progress and how awesome you are, blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, no obvious way to stop it in game, I just wanted to say please please just shut up and sod off, an option to just cut past the scene/voiceover by pressing esc or something would be fantastic, but couldnt find one and kept pressing any buttons on my controller and keyboard in the hope could kill the story teller.

Also I didnt do the raceday, which you are offered right after doing the first race, and being told how awesome you are even if you ♥♥♥♥ it up, and despite this, the game still behaved like I had done it, and numbed me yet again with some more background chat and story telling blah blah blah, blah blah blah, for gods sake please please please shut up and go away...

Ooh and of course theres the crashing, and I dont mean into other cars, I mean program, just stops working and you find yourself dumped back out onto your desktop...

Theres just so much i dislike about this experience at the outset that I just dont want to play it again, I could probably get used to all the drifting, but whats the point, I may as well just play a rally style game, and I just cant bear the thought of having to go through all that mind numbing commentary, what an utter waste of cash and an hour of my time...and did I mention it crashes too?

Maybe autosport is better, i dont know, but im not wasting my cash on it to find out.

Some folks obviously get on ok with this game and enjoy it, not for me though...I should have spent the cash on a mighty bucket for one...Ive requested a refund as I just cannot bring myself to try it again...

Bad game - in so many levels.

A) It craches. A lot. 6 time in one evening.

B) Terrible control. I have played car games before. Im not expert player, i dont need "super realistic". Arcade style is ok. I have bought this game, because many people are like: IIts not realistic, its arcade, its to easy.. I dont know, what is hard for them, but this? With evry small hit, it is like ping-pong ball bouncing all over the screen. Car is sliding on almost every turn. Not playeble.

C) Buggy. There is function to turn back time when you crash. Nice idea. Why not. But. It sometime does wotk, some time does not.

D) Settings. Not enough settings. Like - how strong are arrow key press when turning.

When you start the game you feel like:´Choose nickname, what am I? Noob?´ But when you jump into the action,in the legendary Ford Mustang it´s another felling like in the menu. Through racing you have more and more challenges to complete:promos, vehicle challenges. Big plus is that there are various race modes:Elimination,Checkpoint,Drift,Touge,Faceoff, race. My favourite cars are Mustang Boss and Agera R,i finished the game after 16 hours,i think this is the one of the top 5 racing games in the whole world.

Let's cut to the chase: the driving is simply not fun. Specifically, it doesn't ever leave you satisfied. It's an arcade racer with heavy drift emphasis trying to play off being a semi realistic experience, and it fails miserably at both. Vehicle physics are all over the place too, and don't even try to match its real world specifications.

With that summary out of the way, more details below.

I just finished the game's single player 100%. This review primarily focuses on that. Went through what the game calls "Season 1" on the hardest difficulty, then bumped it down to the 2nd hardest difficulty for the remainder of the game. That excludes most "drift" events and the final set of races, where I did it on the hardest difficulty. I did this all on a PS4 controller.

Here's the problem with the game: To go fast, you drift. What the game calls "drift", "balanced", and "grip" race styles? Nonsense. If you want to go around a corner fast, you must break out the rear end. Otherwise, you will crash into a wall or hit a track due to understeer at the same speed.

This problem compounds itself: Have a series of slow turns that alternate direction? Good luck breaking out the rear end or getting the vehicle to drift how you want it. Luckily, this is a mostly rare occasion, but it is something that will frustrate you.

Then there's every single car with regard to drifting, minus the final, fastest car (more on that later): Even if you stomp on the gas/accelerator, you cannot hold the drift. But here's the silly part: if you don't hit the accelerator all the way, you can hold it longer. How does that make any sense? Who knows. This discovery I made about 75% of the way through the singleplayer did make the game slightly more bearable for some vehicles, but it's a complete mess still.

Now of course, this is just your vehicle. The computers/AI? Horrible. This is both because they cheat heavily and because of the complete imbalance between vehicles.

Let's go with the AI first: hardest difficulty, you have to race almost perfectly, or you have no chance of catching up. This means learning how to deal with your chosen car's behavior, the specific track in question, and how to get around the AI in the first place.

Yes, most of the difficulty with AI is getting in front of them in the first place. This is abnormally annoying given how on the hard/hardest difficulties, they will gain acceleration and turning speed out of the blue just to stay in front of you.

Once you are out in front though, you can drive at about 90% of the speed you were just racing and usually will stay out on top. The AI has trouble passing you too... but sometimes will crash into you and spin you out (your car is weightless compared to their vehicles, regardless of vehicle characteristics). If you continue to race as well as you can, a large lead usually makes all the AI vehicles fall further and further behind.

Every time you crash/ tap a wall however, the AI has a tendency to speed up. On the 2nd hardest difficulty, when I ran into a wall, 3rd place drifted around the corner fast enough to overtake the current 1st place AI, where first place is usually faster than the rest.

The AI is also severely imbalanced. On some tracks, I can pull out a 15-20 second lead quite often (2nd hardest difficulty). On others, I struggle to stay even one second ahead. This is both due to rubberbanding and horrible AI racing lines. Specifically, Cote d Azeur has some brutal AI, and is what made me change from hardest difficulty to 2nd hardest difficulty: there simply didn't seem like a way to win without blind luck (which did allow me to actually win a Season 1 race on the hardest difficulty: the fastest AI racer crashed/retired).

Now let's go on to vehicles specifically: their balance is all over the place. This isn't too noticeable early-mid game, but the huge imbalance in their performance despite being in the same "tier" becomes extremely noticeable by late game. Generally speaking, you really want your opponents to have heavier, slow accelerating cars so you can pass them in the corners by braking later than them/ going around it faster. Every time my opponent (assuming a 1-on-1) is in a slower, heavier car, I can win easily on the 2nd hardest difficulty.

This doesn't even mention how drifting works in each. While each car can break out the rear end, some have a lot more trouble than others in doing so. This is regardless of its acceleration/power: some cars just don't feel right. I can't give specifics given how the game put me into several different cars against my will.

The exception to that drifting rule is the fastest car in the game: the Koenigsegg Agera R.

This is the only car where i can get the rear end out on demand: turn in hard, stomp on the accelerator, control throttle to maintain the drift. It makes the most sense, and why every single car cannot do this is beyond me. In fact, why it requires over 1000 horsepower to drift a car properly, even in an arcade racer, is far beyond me.

As a note, the speeds you "drift" the car would be fatal in most real world situations. While you do still have to brake/slow down for corners, the speeds you take them are... I want to say 1.5x-2x what you would be able to in a real world scenario. In most cases at least.

Anyway, back to the Koenigsegg: I went against one of these cars on 2nd hardest difficulty before i unlocked it myself. The amount of work i had to put in (about 40 minutes alone of my total time, which only matched one race back in season 1 hardest difficulty) to win that race was absurd. The car accelerates so ridiculously fast for this game that once I unlocked it myself, I felt like the game's difficulty levels all jumped down one (on the remaining races I could use the vehicle in). Hence why I did the final set of races on the hardest difficulty: it felt about the same as what I had been racing at.

It just astonishes me that the car that made the game feel "right" was at the end. It felt so proper that it made the rest of the game feel disgusting. Looking back at my approximate 15 hours spent on this game, it feels so wasted.

Terrible "gameplay" aside, the visuals are at least pretty good looking. Especially when you consider when the game released. Engine noises sound okay. Commentator needs to shut up, and the whole premise of the single player campaign is laughable. Vehicle damage looks a bit excessive sometimes, but does the trick. How it affects each car specifically I never found out, but slight vehicle damage did sometimes help me with a race seemingly.

Overall, after about 15 different play sessions over about 15 hours (that's the maximum amount of time this game could hold my attention) and completing all single player events, this is a game I can't recommend. I had fun with 1 car in the end. And that lasted at most about 45 minutes, including two custom events with it.

There's nothing to bring me back either; I don't want the overpriced and pointless DLC at all.

Go with a proper racing SIM or a proper arcade racer. This is neither, and it's an overall shallow experience.
