Second game with horned creature out now on Early Access

TLDR: We love you, new game Blamdown: Udder Fury out now on early acces!

Hey people!

First off all, all of us at Guru Games who worked long hours on Medusa want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your engagment with our game has made us feel truly special, and boosted morale on those long nights of crunching away at the game, wondering if we are going to be able to afford rent next month.

The reason Medusa is such a short game is simply that we could not afford to make something bigger without funding, no matter how much we wanted to. So, thanks to so many of you picking it up, we have made the rounds to a number of publishers, from big ones like Namco Bandai to smaller ones like Devolver asking for someone to help us make this dream of ours come true.

Sadly those negotiations have taken up a lot of time, and while that goes on we've toild away on a much smaller game, a very different game that we launched two days ago on Steam Early Access.

We know that it's nothing like Medusa, so if you want a horror experience I would not recommend it. We created it to be something funny and casual, a break from all the serious, slow and pondering things we usually make. Now, our plan is still to continue with our beloved Greek setting again in the fall, but for now it's all about cows and chaos.

It would mean the world to us if you would give Blamdown a chance, and give us your feedback on it, just like you've done with Medusa. The best way for us to improve as developers is to learn what you want us to make.

You can get Blamdown: Udder Fury here.

Sorry for the long post,
Hope you have an awesome day!

150 000 Downloads and the most popular horror game of 2016!

Wow. You guys have blown us away!

Not in a million years would we have excepted to reach over 150 000 users here on steam when we launched this teaser version of our game back in february. All we wanted to do was share a small part of our vision with you guys, and look where we ended up. Words are not enough to describe how grateful we are for making this the most popular game on steam that has launched in 2016. But our story does not end here!

What the future holds
As we have said before Medusa is not something that we want to let go of just yet. It's our baby in a way, and we want to see it grow up and become successfull. At this moment we are still in negotiations with a number of publishers, and thanks to you guys we have some great data to show them. If 150 000 people were willing to give this short version a chance then there is a strong indication that a larger game will attract a significant number of people, even when it comes with a pricetag.

These negotiations take time, so just as we have to be patient with them we ask you to have some with us. I promise you we are doing our best to bring you the scariest freaking game we possible can.

We are still looking to collect more feedback on this version of Medusa so please help us reach even more people if you can!
All the best,
and the Guru Games devteam

About This Game

Medusa’s Labyrinth is a mythological first person horror game set in ancient Greece. It takes myths and legends that have stayed with us for over 2000 years and mix them together in a game that blends horror with stealth into a unique experience.

The player will have to carefully pick their path through the abandoned hallways on Temple Island, through winding catacombs and dark corners to solve the mysteries that lurk within the labyrinth.

The game was originally planned to be a part of a much larger game, but we decided to launch this version as a short free adventure, so anyone with a Steam account can play it without paying a dime. We really hope you will enjoy the experience, as we made it public for just that reason: For you people to get a glimpse of what Medusa could have become with a longer production time and additional funding.

Watching trailers and the gameplay of others allows me to say that this seems like a good game. However my personal experience of playing it does not allow me to say that it is. Now before I list the issues I have I will say that it could very well just be my copy. So don't judge the game just by this review. And I may as well say that it is not an issue with my computer as it is highly capable of playing this game flawlessly.

We'll start with the controls. Straight away there doesn't seem to be a way to allocate key bindings. While fine for some it does mean that you cannot customize it to fit your own personal play style. This also extends to a controller. While the controller does work (well sometimes but I'll get to that) there is actually no way of showing what buttons does what on the title screen like it does for the keyboard. So for someone using a controller the entire game at the start is simply a trial and error experiment. Resulting in the occasional loss of arrows.
And then sometimes the buttons on the controller don't do what they are supposed. e.g, Often taking several attempts to knock an arrow. This is a very frustrating factor.

There is also a major sound bug. 9/10 times I start the game, there is no sound and I have to quit out and keep trying until the sound decides it wants to be a thing. Adjusting the various volume sliders in the options menu has zero effect.

What hurts my progress the most though is, no matter what the graphics settings, I can not spend more than 10 minutes maximum in game before it crashes. And when you already have to re-open it several times just for the sound to work, it quickly becomes more effort than it is worth to play it. As stated in the beggining it is not an issue with the computer as it can run, very smoothly, games that require far higher specs. Plus as stated it crashes regardless of graphical settings so that is not a factor.

So from my experience it is just totally buggy and basically unplayable. Which is a shame as I liked the idea of this game and really wanted to give it a go. I would like to say that there is a very high chance that it is not the game's fault in a general view. More, I believe, I just ended up with a really broken and buggy copy. Considering the game is free, it's not a cause of anger, as there is no waste of money. It just is a dissapointment that I can't experience it fully.
So while I would like to recommend this game (based upon the trailers and the gameplay of others) I unfortunatly have to go by my own personal playing experience and say that I do not recommend it.

Monster: Kinda scary
People turned to stone who do nothing and make no sound: PURE UNADULTERATED HORROR

It's even scarier that it took everyone here around thirty minutes on the first playthrough whereas it took me over an hour.

10/10 Would get scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by an inanimate object again.

After struggling with the mouse on the main menu I finally realised the game was running at the wrong resolution. I mention this not to pick fault but to help others who may be turned off from trying the game by the immense lag through the main menu.
Even though I'm only about 10 minutes in I'm already curious about the story line and in love with the design choices. When you take the price into account as well, there's no reason not to give it one hell of a go.

Simple Review

Nice looking.
Has a nice concept.
Simple Controls.
Not that bad of a lighting.
Its free. (so if you dont like it you've wasted nothing)

Floatly movement.
Bit glitchy when picking stuff up with the bow drawn or a lit torch.
1st Monster? = meh (Im only so far in, so there could be more monster)
Its a bit dark wish the torch did more but i can still see.

Personal Experience-
I get in game see lots of papers with writings on them so im like ill skip them.
I hear my heartbeat in game when i find my torch for the first time so i hide in a blocked of corner to see if i can see the monster, nothing was there so i went on.
I see monster go past ahead of me so i chase senpai into a closed of room, (he dissapered ;-; ) I hear heartbeat again, nothing again.
I get the bow trying to get the rest of the arrows and i shoot an arrow by accident :-\
I open bridge and go forward then i see bea so i follow him turns out he didn't dissapear roars at me then kills me, no special death screen, Animation (expect falling over) and im back no loading or a continue screen.

p.s when you die he makes loads of wierd noise's sooooo it sounds like his having "fun" with your body...... ;-)

5/10 --- It has potential but it needs some grooming before it becomes popular.

p.p.s My mind is not solid so review could change later on.

Supposedly free, but after 16 minutes I had to buy a new pair of pants. Just a little note, I'm awful with horror games so don't think my review holds a lot of weight. My toaster could only run the game on low graphics, but it still looks really nice. The light system is kinda confusing, and the character you play as runs like he/she's carrying heavy stones in their pockets. I absolutely love having the bow though. Unfortunately, I didn't get to test it on what I assume to be the main monster of the game, as it was around seeing the monster first that I went to purchase new lower apparel. Anyway, it's a free game, and it's not like you're losing much other than computer space if you hate it.

This review will be short to avoid spoilers.

Medusa's Labyrinth is one of the best horror games I have played in a long time and the idea behind it is awesome.

This game is set in ancient Greece where you explore a labyrinth with an ancient evil that chases you.

To help you find the exit you have a torch and a bow. The torch is used to go through tunnels that are too dark and I'm not sure what the bow is used for. I at first thought it was used for distractions, but I couldn't get it to work, so I have no idea what the bow does.

The atmosphere is beyond amazing and the dimly lit tunnels are incredibly creepy.

The problems with the game that it's incredibly short, from what I remember reading this game is a part of something larger and I can't wait to see what the studio is going to do in the future.

Overall it's free so what do you have to lose ?

Final Rating:
7/10 - Play It

An excellent game! I am amused that such a great game is FREE when so many terrible games cost so much! So, my advise is go get it! What could it hurt? With that feeling, I embarked upon my journey and was extremely surprised. The graphics are smooth and one feels as if they are in ancient Greece. All around are pillars, small very realistic fires in what I would call 'comals' but I dont know the Greek word for them (sort of metal dishes with fires for light) as well as interesting Greek touches in the design along with the music all combining to make the atmosphere just.. awesome, creepy, historical, and awesome. So far the game play involves puzzles as well as stealth in a sort of abandoned looking area with a very disturbing and odd sculpture of a man holding his hands before his face, as if to ward off an attack, but where is the attacker? And why is he stone??...hmm, reminds me of something...
Anyway, I believe most horror fans, adventure fans, or even simply fans of Geeek mythology would enjoy this game. As it is free, I would say give it a try. It is well made, beautiful and quite fun. I am praying that this is just a teaser, though, and that more work from this excellent developer is on its way. I would happily pay for it.
9/10 for game play, story, graphics quality, and music (music is actually a 10/10)
In fact, I would have given whole game a 10 but I want MORE! It was short, so that's is why. Maybe the developer will see this and think "yes, I will make more to this game"?? :)

- Atmospheric: wispers in the dark, cave like ambiance.
- Devoted to a theme: dark, creaky, dank corridors of a Greek tomb.
- Lighting is spot on, the addition of a well done torch mechanic works well.
- Active inventory is a nice addition.

- Sound on footsteps seems delayed, you'd stop moving and the sound would keep playing. (might be echo but seems to crisp to be so)
- Enemies seem hyper aware, was hiding behind a wall and was spotted the second the enemy looked in my direction. (this might have been because i was peeking)

For a free game it's great and despite only playing the first half hour i can see the time and effort put into the environment, tools and features.

if you enjoy short games, this si a very well made one, it takes about thirty minutes your first playthrough, and is still enjoyable after your second or third. and over all it is a wonderful game. i feel as though this might have been originally made bigger because of the many places in the game. still for anyone who wants creepy atmospheres, scary monsters, and running around this would be good for you. 10/10 SPOILERS HERE!!!!!! The only thing i felt was not good is that there is only one mossnter and two notes in the storyline are missing, it could merely be that i coulld have missed something and therefore felt confused.
