First up, I bought this in a humble bundle and I'm still annoyed at the 20p or percentage of the price I paid went to Risen 2.
I must say, this game has to have the most relatively worst combat controls I have had the unfortunate experience to suffer through. Combat feels totally disconnected from pressing buttons, more akin to ordering the character to perform an attack which he will then perform on his own time. Attacking is limited to just spamming the left click, which is mired by long wind up times, as well as enemies not being staggered by your attacks, while they are more than capable of stunlocking you should they even lightly cough on you, which they will do so, far quicker than your attack animation. The only way I felt I could actually attack enemies was to rub myself up against an enemy and clip through them when they thrusted.
Animals are even worse, as their attacks are unblockable, as well as un-staggerable. Not only that, but skills that reduce damage taken are limited to only effecting human opponents. So not only can you not block animal attacks, they do far more damage than is feasible, forcing you to hoard potions in order to just soak enemy attacks until you grind them down.
Animations are in themselves janky and poor quality, and recycled to a horrendous degree. Human characters talking merely flap their jaws as if they belonged in the 90s, while the camera and characters noticebly constantly reset themselves every line of dialog, causing them to visibly spawn in every 5 seconds during cinematics. Texture and model quality, while not everything is to do with graphics, the level of quality is most definitely sub par for a studio as old as this.
Voice acting is poor too, it's better than average in that it actually uses British actors, but they're still pretty pants.
Overall a poor and infuriating experience not worth investing in, even if you are desperate for a pirate game like I was.
