Having played Warcraft for a number of years I was looking for an alternative that offered something closer to 'classic' WoW gameplay. Although Rift differs from Warcraft in many ways to me it represents all the good attributes WoW once had in classic. The graphical update alone from WoW to Rift is something to witness. The gameplay is smooth and what really surprised me is although the game really encourages you to spend some of your hard earned cash, you can really play the game (costing you time rather than cash) without spending anything making it truly free to play. The quests are very similar to those you find in warcraft but there are rift events and group adventuring which are different from WoW and a welcome addition especially to beginners. I found the user base to be far less 'toxic' than the WoW community and they embrace rather than try to embarrass new players. I found that gameplay seems 'faster' than WoW action is more immediate and to me seems less repetitive (although I am still new to this and haven’t yet maxed out a character). The instances/raids are interesting and varied with some particularly good boss fights. You still get the same pleasure from loot drops as you do in WoW the 'talent tree' is also available for you to customize your character. I think Rift for me is better its more customizable more user friendly has new content that I have never seen, the community is by far one of the best and friendly online communities I have come across and it recaptures and then adds its own uniqueness to something I used to really enjoy in classic WoW.

Apologies to those that have read this and never played warcraft before but its the only experience I can really compare it to that will hopefully resonate with people out there. All in all highly recommended. I was so pleased with the initial free game I waited for the steam sale and bought Laethy's Fortune Pack which gives you 90 days of patron benefits among many other things. So far I don't regret spending a penny on this game.

Best F2P MMORPG I have played so far. Its a fun game with alots of content to explorer in a massive open world with lots of events all day long.

The DLC's are very over priced and not really woth the money.

The in-game store allows you to buy any gear. If you want the best gear you could raid and get it your self, or just use your parents credit card. Gear is expensive so wouldn't recommand buying it with irl money. And whats the point of playing if you pay to unlock everything?

Leveling is alot of fun since you can do alot of content befor max level. You're not stuck with questing untill you reach max level. However, leveling isnt going very fast, ofcourse not, its F2P. They want you to buy experiance potions.

This MMO is a great example of what an MMO is all about, teamplay. There are lots of open world events, rifts, dungeons, raids and adventures that requires a group in order to complete.

+You can scale your level to play with lower level friends. Just adjust your own level and you can play with then without having to create a new character. (Exp will scale to)
+Good Graphics
+You can have your own house/landscape
+Great teamplay/group content (and public groups you can instandly join, no need to create your own)
+Big open world with fun events 24/7
+Not stuck with questing while leveling up
+Tons of events with great rewards
+Gear looks awesome
+Possible to change appearance
+Lots of in-game settings that would normaly requires addons
+Addon support
+Auto quest system (Kill a mob for the first time gains a quest)
+Fun dungeons with bosses that actually require tactics
+Your talents can make you either ranged, melee, DPS or healer with different ways. (Example: Cleric has: AoE ranged, single target ranged, AoE melee, single target melee, AoE healing, and so on...)
+Some classes/rolls are really hard to play wich adds an extra challange if you find the game to easy.
+Auto scale dungeons/adventures. If the dungeon is to high or low level for you, your gear and xp will scale so its woth the run anyway. The drops are still useless though.
+Tanking mages
+Tanking rogues
+Healing rogues
+Healing warriors... Sounds all very weird if you played World of Warcraft. "Ye, I'm a lvl 65 healing warrior".

-Poor spell effects, I dont really feel powerful as a level up
-No story (Well, there is one, but its not really worth it)
-Fairly slow leveling
-No falling damage. Steel bones?
-You can buy the best gear with irl money, if you are willing to pay for it.
-Over priced DLC's that you dont need anyway
-Some classes/rolls are much more powerfull then others
-Not many classes to choose from
-Bank got full very fast because of the minion quest system that gives me infinite dimension items for my landscape
-Some rare mobs cannot be killed solo because they are to overpowered and require a small group. C'mon, we have world bosses for this.
-Support class, of which i dont see the point. You could better have an Extra DPS that focuses on AoE damage then extra heals or buffs/debuffs..
-To unlock some class/rolls/race, you need to pay irl money, but then again, its F2P and they need to make money some how.
-Tanking mages requires irl money payment
-Healing rogues requires irl money payment
-Healing warriors requires irl money payment

Score: 8/10

It's worth a try
