This has got to be one of the best solitaire games i have played. A very enjoyable game i would recommend if you have a few hours to spare. At times can be frustrating but enjoyable the last acheivement seems near impossible to achieve but makes you even more determined to keep going.

Faerie Solitaire is a game that I recommend because:
- it is a method to banish boredom
- it has a good price
- it is a good puzzle
- it is indie & casual
- it has trading cards

Enjoy!

Solitaire with a twist.

I wanted to see if anythings changed since I last played this, so I installed the game again.

I was hoping that there would be less grind for achievements at the end after all the updates, but your pet progress is still as slow as ever, The game is fun to play for some time, but get's repetitive and rng-based at the end (challenges require up to 6 perfects, can be hard to get the right cards). This makes the endgame feel unrewarding.

If you like card games, then I can't recommend this game enough. It's different from the original way to play Solitaire, but in a very good way. Highly addictive.

I have been playing this game on and off and tbh I really love playing for the sole fact that it is like solitare except isn't. It is simpler but is a good way to pass time. I would not recommend this game to those who prefer real solitare. I would recommend this game to someone who just need a way to make time fly.
There is a story that goes along with it but I honestly dont pay much attention to it.

Disclaimer: I purchased this game using my own funds, and I do not write a review on a game that I have not paid for myself, because I believe they should be fair and unbiased. I don't believe you can get that unless you invest your own funds and support developers, and provide a personal sense of "value".

This has got to be one of the more enjoyable solitaire card games on the market. I have put over 52 hours into this addicting game. It has a fun background story (which does not interfere with the game play, but merely keeps you involved to continue on your journey), relaxing music, and simple mechanics with fun powerups to assist you along the way. A good value at its current asking price of $10, but I think as a casual game, I would wait for it to be on sale for around $5. It has achievements, trading cards, and is guaranteed to waste a LOT of your time if you are a fan of Faeries whatsoever.

There are quickplay levels and extra hard challenge levels if you finish or need a break from the Adventure campaign.

If you have this in your library and haven't tried it out yet, you're missing out on a gem.
I read a review once that downvoted this because of no multiplayer option ... This is "Solitaire" ... Enough said LOL.

I wanted to add an edit into this:
If you are an achievement hunter, be forewarned that you have to collect a lot of materials and eggs while you play. This, of course, is governed by random odds. You may have to play quite a bit more to collect all the items you need, and several speculations and theories are presented in the forums.

A report on the randomness: After this review, and having put an extra ten hours here and there into this fun game, I am *still* working on the last two achievements.

Good hunting! :)

If you enjoy solitaire games, Faerie Solitaire is a fresh little twist on the formula and an incredibly addictive little time-spnner. I love the randomness of the game, compared to traditional solitaire, and the objectives change things up from hand to hand as well.

I'm not a huge fan of the theme, honestly, I think the artwork and story is a little trite and the voice acting is downright cringeworthy. Some of the upgrade perks can be nice but the pets are pretty useless. I also wish I could change the aspect ratio or at least resize the window since I play in windowed mode usually.

The game itself, however, keeps me playing for just one more hand. Or 20 more hands. Or hey when did it get so late is it really 1 am?

It might also be the hunt for that last egg, which after nearly 50 hours and 4-5 complete playthroughs still will not drop. (Achievement hunters, beware!)

What to say about Faerie Solitaire? I saw a bunch of my Steam friends playing this and went ahead an bought it a while back, but didnt really crack into it until recently. It was a very pleasant surprise. It's solitaire with a few twists and a little story about a kid who finds faeries in captivity and frees them while seeking out the reason all of this is happening. Nothing too deep about the story, but it does hold your interest well enough, and is a nice fable on its own.
The gameplay itself is simple enough...it is not exactly solitaire, in that rather than match suits until you run out of cards, you are instead trying to build combos to take off the board using your held cards as the base card for said combos. The bigger the combo, the more it is worth. Additionally, you unlock powers such as being able to automatically link a card that would not normally combo, receive extra hold cards to use when you see fit, and build faerie structures that add benefits such as extra undo-s (which you can use to go back one move if you realize you made a mistake), the ability to look at the next card in your deck, and so on.
Each round is made up of nine hands, and there were something like 27 rounds total, broken up into story chapters (each chapter is 3 rounds). Each round has a set of goals, which might include a certain card total combo being reached (8, 10, 12, even 15 in some rounds), acquire a certain amount of points, and fill your charge meter within a certain amount of time. You cant move forward until you meet all the goals, so you may end up repeating a round from time to time.

Anyway, I found this to be a pleasant game with a reasonable amount of challenge, but still something you can do while distracted or feeling particularly unmotivated to do much of anything. I guess what I am saying is it is completely accessible to anybody, can be played in small snippets, and easily fills the gaming void when you aren't sure what else you want to play.

Hello there, you shiny little gem! What do we have here? Our age old, classic card game that we practically grew up with since Windows 3.0 - or as your grandmother's generic hobby - combined with a pretty fairytale and collectibles? I'm in!

The scene opens up to the realm of fairies, threatened by an unspeakable conspiracy. A dark, evil force that we fail to identify enslaves the inhabitants of the realm for its own dark purposes. A kindly old wizard approaches, and declares us as the only possible candidate to save fairies from their torment... with our solitaire skills? (I owe this joke to my friend Solanum Nigrum. It was originaly in his review, but I couldn't bear myself not to include it, due to the joke being perfectly definitive.) Yes, it is solitaire. Yes, it has a story... and the story actually ends with a huge cliffhanger, so you'll be anticipating for Faerie Solitaire 2 before you know.

Aside from your usual solitaire gameplay, Faerie Solitaire contains some surprises. You earn cash as you progress through various levels of the story - or in any casual game - to obtain upgrades for your gameplay. The gameplay also sets some goals for you in each level, that raises the stakes a bit more, either with time limits or a certain number of cards that you have to make a combo with. You are also entitled to collect some magical eggs that will hatch into various magical beasts. These beasties gain experience as you play and they may be raised into adulthood for their own achievement set.

All in all, it is a good game for a low price that you can pick to pass some mindless time, with interesting features. I also gotta mention that the art is surprisingly beautiful for a casual game. I adored the profile backgrounds and emoticons! I know, I know, it is girly... But I am a girl anyhow. So I am entitled to my fairies, damn it!

很开心的纸牌游戏,也有一些动脑子的地方,刚才成功20连,还不错~,得到个成就 Uber-Combo。不过每关都打perfect几乎一次不可能啊XDDD
希望大家喜欢这个游戏哦~
This is a very good Solitaire game. Sometimes you need to think more to get the combo. I have successfully achieved 20 combos and get the achievement: Uber-Combo. However, it's very hard to get perfect rank for every game in the first time.
Hope you like my comments, lol.

Faerie Solitaire is a great casual game, which is well suited for wasting time in an enjoyable way. The way the basic game of solitaire is made fun by the way the arrangement of cards shifts and the rewards system that adds a little dimension to an otherwise monotonoous game.

The game was designed for an ancient monitor resolution of 800x600 and so is apt to look quite distorted on a modern widescreen monitor unless you play in windowed mode. In that mode, the game window is small on a high resolution monitor and may cause some eye strain after long periods of playing. So plan on short play periods when you are ready for a little casual fun and don't have time for a more serious game.

The developer promised in November 2012 that there would be a high resolution version released in the future and that all now current owners would get a free copy of the new version, which would have its own trading cards, etc. So from a price point perspective, this game offers some trading cards now and potentially more in the future, which could be sold to further reduce the cost to the player.

I bought this because it was only .49 during a sale and figured it wouldn't be a loss if it wasn't that fun. I ended up playing for 5 hours straight after I loaded it up. It's a lot of fun. I like solitaire, but get bored after a little while. This game has extra things like challenges, pets to collect, and buffs to purchase with money you make in the game that makes it a lot of fun.

If you like playing card games you'll love this.

Quick review:

Short Verdict: An addictive solitaire game, similar to Golf, but with wrapping, special abilities, upgrades, (useless) pets, and a storyline. A nice game for casual players, just don't expect awesomeness. Oh, they promised to improve the game in a future update, just so you know.

Pros:
  • Very addictive--you can play many rounds before getting tired
  • Beautiful graphics
  • Nice BGM
  • Getting money for the upgrades and materials for evolving pets add to its addictiveness
  • The Adventure mode is "faerly" long (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) and provides you with multiple layouts to play
  • Extra 5-level Challenge mode adds (slightly) harder levels to the game, too
  • All special powers, extra cards and upgrades work well together

Cons:
  • A bit too easy--I never lost a level (composed of 9 hands), even the challenges
  • Collecting and evolving pets is insanely unbalanced--takes many, many hours and there's no guarantee you'll get all the pets. Not to mention they're useless.
  • After I beat Adventure and Challenge modes, I wasn't really willing to keep playing (beat both in around 20 hours, which is a good run for a casual game)
  • You end up with a crazy amount of useless money, which could've been used, say, to buy pets you didn't find or evolve them
  • The voice actor for the main character is a ham (sorry, dude, just being honest)
  • It seems like they barely made any efforts to build a nice storyline--it doesn't make much sense, it's there just to give you a sense of progress
  • You can't change the 800x600 resolution (this will possibly be solved in a future patch, if I got it right)

Bought on / for: Steam Store for R$ 2,00 (US$ 0.85). Definitely worth that money!
