Trine & Trine 2 Editor Release and Free Weekend

We are now officially releasing the Trine Editors on Steam for Windows. We also patched some minor gameplay issues.

Some of you have already gotten a chance to try the editors through the Steam Beta, but now they are out for everyone to try! We have released two separate editors that each come bundled with their respective game; Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2. Even though the Editors look quite similar, they do have some differences - so if you have questions, please remember to specify which editor you are using. :)

The Editors may take a while to learn how to use, so they might not be for everyone - but do give them a try and see if you are up for it! The Editors are very diverse tools that allow you to edit existing maps, create whole new maps and share your creations with others through the Steam Workshop. We're really excited to see what you guys can come up with!

Check out the "How to Get Started" section below for useful tips and links on how to help you get going. :) We'll also be happy to answer editor-related questions; you can email those to our Support, post your questions to our blog or in the Steam Community Discussions (links below).

One last note: since the Editors are now officially released, it's recommended that those who were participating in the Beta now opt out of it to ensure they'll get all the latest updates. This is easy to do by right-clicking the games in your Steam Library, choosing Properties and navigating to the BETAS tab. The option to opt out of beta programs should be available in the drop-down menu. Remember to do this for both games.

To celebrate the official release of the editors for Trine Enchanted Edition and Trine 2, both games are free on Steam this weekend 16th-19th of October. The games are freely available for everyone to install and play through their Steam Library for the duration of this weekend - so remember to tell all your friends who've always wanted to try the Trine games, but have not done so yet! Since we are now officially releasing the Trine Editors for Windows, you'll get to try them for free as well. :)

The games are also available for purchase for a juicy sale, 80% off until Monday 20th! Both Trine games support both local and online co-op for up to three people*, so gather your friends and have fun with Trine!
*NOTE: Trine 2: Complete Story is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and has full local and online co-op support. Trine Enchanted Edition is currently only available for Windows (Mac and Linux versions are being developed), so the Mac version of Trine does not support online co-op (but does have a local co-op option!) and the Linux version of Trine is not yet available through Steam.

Frozenbyte Editors: How to Get Started
Please read before trying out the editors!

That should be enough talk for a while, right? We hope you enjoy the free weekend and have fun playing and experimenting with the editors. Don't hesitate to ask any question either here, by email or in the Steam Community (links above). Have a great and Trine-filled weekend! :)

The best thing that I like about this game, is its graphics.

Every single level, character, enemies, background and platforms are well refined. Just look at the trailer and screenshots! It is exactly as pretty as the actual game itself.

It is a puzzle platformer with a little bit of action in it. There are a lot of ways to tackle all the puzzles, and a lot of different approach to advance the levels.

The story itself is quite interesting. The puzzles are interesting and not too overwhelming. The boss fights pose some challenge but not impossible if you get to know how to fight (or just checkpoint-abuse).

The flexible difficulty settings make this game suitable for different type of player. After you defeat one playthru, you can replay all the stages from the start again with your already-unlocked skills to get past the stages in different way, and to collect the experience vials whereby you cannot collect in your first playthru.

Multiplayer is best played with friends that has almost the same progress to avoid spoilers and trolling.

The achievements added quite a bit of challenge and replayability if you're going for 100% completion.

My score: 10/10

Your embodies one of the three heroes Pontius, in his knight, the thief Zoya and Amadeus, magicians and wimp before the Lord, a triumvirate of legendary heroes summoned by the mysterious Trine to eradicate a growing evil leaking its dark influence across the world from deep within the Enchanted Forest.
The primary arc of events revolve around assisting a princess in finding and destroying a goblin king. There are hints scattered around levels in the forms of books and notes that expand the story of the princess and the relationship with her sister.
It is not until the last few levels that the game remembers that it was presenting a story to players. The story can best be described as a subtle underlaying to the gameplay that simply offers extra inncentive to complete each level.

What makes Trine 2, but the puzzles with which our hero group is confronted. The puzzles are based on the previous model: Each of the drawing has different skills that we need to combine clever.

- Pontius is a knight of course responsible for properly what to give opponents on the cap.
With his shield but it can also protect the troops or divert fluids before bullets. Add to that his war hammer, he may even throw later to break down fragile walls.

- Amadeus can conjure out of nowhere thanks to his magical gift boxes and planks. He also makes objects float and later even opponents, to use as a shield - completely defenseless the witcher is not so. Especially as monsters die when Amadeus can fall on your head them boulders. And lava pits are just as deadly as our trio of heroes for the nasty goblins. Who uses his surroundings, his opponent can get rid of some very amusing way.

- Zoya is the ranged combat expert of the Force. With her bow she can take distant or entrenched adversary targeted. During the game, we also get to fire explosive arrows and Ice Arrows to freeze the opponent. However, Zoya's greatest strength is her grappling hook, with which they can hold on to wooden objects.

Back to how great it looks! Each new area you pass through along the journey is eye-catching enough to make you pause to take it all in for a moment -- and there are a lot of them over the roughly eight hours of play time. From castles to forests, swamps to caves, tropical islands to fiery and icy wastes, each is distinct and terrifically detailed with artistic flair, and populated by amazing creatures like a giant frog, carnivorous plants, and even a dragon. The lively flute 'n lute music and a kindly British narrator put a finishing touch on this expertly crafted fantasy atmosphere.

To an extent, the same can be said for the sound effects and music, which also exhibit high quality and creativity. Environments have believable ambience with insects chirping and water flowing in the forest, and wind howling and thunder echoing through the craggy reefs of a stormy beach. Weapons make appropriate clashes, clangs, and pings in battle, and objects react to each other with realistic sounds. There’s nothing to complain about here, and the soundtrack has no downside either.
It matches the tone of the game with a full orchestra playing lively, upbeat, fun songs to accompany the gameplay, whether you're solving a puzzle or fighting a group of goblins.

Trine 2: Complete Story is still a brilliantly charming game. The sound package is also excellent, although I'd be lying if I said it was as amazing as the visuals. Simply put, it's an exemplary indie game that has the makings of a blockbuster title.

Score: 83 / 100

For a platform game, the graphics are stunning :D I would absolutely recommend this game! Puzzles aren't painfully difficult and the ability to shift between 3 different characters is a pretty cool feature. Great game for screenshots, and really good for playing if you just wanna relax to a soothing soundtrack and admire the beautiful scenery while swinging, climbing and jumping your way through the levels.

Trine 2 is a gorgeous, fun game that I would wholeheartedly recommend, even though I am not someone who normally enjoys puzzle games. The world is vibrant and colorful, with great music and fun, if simple, characters to go along with it. It is a light-hearted, relaxing, fun game with a lot of charm. The puzzles were fun and I had a good laugh with my co-op partner. We trolled each other and had quite a few memorable moments playing the game. I feel like the wizard was the most well-thought out character in the game and that the thief and knight didn't get quite as much attention as the wizard, but this is a very minor nitpick. Playing the thief and the knight wasn't a bore; I mostly played the thief during my playthrough and still had a ton of fun. The puzzles were creative, but not frustrating. I found myself laughing at the silly mistakes we made more often than not.

4.5 out of 5

One of the best co-op games you'll ever play.

Out of all the games I've called beautiful, this game is the pinnacle of beauty. But even if it was as ugly as sin I would recommend this, because it's one of the best co-op experiences you'll have on the PC.

Taking on a knight, wizard and a swinging thief, you dive into the beautiful world of Trine solving puzzles and laughing at the mishaps and physics amusement that occur. Not so fun as a single player, but still worth a buy.

"Beauty is power; a smile is its sword."

Trine 2 represents a 2-D jump & run adventure game with impressive artwork, beautiful design and sophisticated puzzles. As already introduced in the original Trine you can switch on the fly between three different characters, a knight, thief and wizard (still no fireballs). It is also the basis for the great puzzle system this game offers, and the multitude of possibilities to solve each one of them.

The balance between combat and puzzle sections leave no room for boredom. And the adjustable level of difficulty gives newcomers and veterans a fair chance to prove their abilities. Furthermore the multiplayer adds some extra life to the game, as the experience is genuinely different.

The DLC in form of Goblin Menace adds a couple new levels, a new story, and several new skills which will also be available in the original game.

Overall Trine 2 feels more refined than its predecessor and the beautiful artwork in combination with the creative puzzle sections are very persuasive and entertaining. In addition it offers enough content to justify itself as a worthy sequel to Trine.

Fun fact: Due to relatively poor sales for Trine 2 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the conversion for the expansion for these consoles was deemed not be cost effective, thus Trine 2: Goblin Menace was never released for these platforms.

This is the most gorgeous looking game i've ever played in my entire life.

It got a really amazing soundtrack that fits with the game perfectly.

The story is well-writen.

The combat is really well done with the Knight.

The puzzles are quite easy but that doesn't take away the gorgeous looks of the game.

Well if you love 2.5D side scrollers yer probally love this one.

This game is brilliant!
The atmosphere and graphics are truly amazing!
Can be utterly frustrating and equally rewarding when you get pass that seemingly impossible part of the level.

Sometimes this game can be easy, sometimes nearly impossible, especially if you're determined to get the Master Collector achivement.
Not sure about the replayability though, unless you're after the achievements.

Trine 3 must be in development, please!

I finished the "Complete Story" version of Trine2, which is an extended version of the regular Trine2. The extra content ("Gobling Menace DLC") is almost of the same size and the original, and it's equally nice, maybe even prettier! It took me about 13hrs to beat the whole game, and it wasn't particularly difficult, especially when you get the hang of it.

Gameplay: It's essentially a puzzle platform game, with a bit of action (battles) at some points. You have three characters (fighter, mage & rogue archetypes) that you switch to any time during play; each character has unique abilities that will help you get through the various puzzles you come across. Each level of the game (there are about 20 levels for the "Complete Story") has about 10-15 puzzles to complete, with save/checkpoints every one or two. Most puzzles are typically "get to the right of the screen" type, over chasms or mechanisms or beating foes, and can usually be solved in a multitude of different ways. The puzzles weren't too challenging, and some of them might be a little repetitive, i.e. you could easily go through them using "standard" techniques. There's also hints to get you going, if you're stuck on a puzzle for too long. I played with WASD keys + mouse, and there are also some more keyboard shortcuts; controls were quite simple to learn & master and I encountered no problem. No glitches or weird bugs fell to my attention, and the physics engine of the game was quite robust.

Theme/Graphics/Sound: The story is all set in a fairy-tale world, which some might find a bit "underaged" (as if it's meant for children, i.e. far from "mature"), but I didn't mind that so much. The graphics are ASTOUNDING, computer-made but beautiful, and fleshed in 3D even if the game is essentially 2D. Lighting and other visual effects are particularly well done and there's some pretty animations at the end of each level. There's a great variety of "worlds" you're going to have to go through: from dark dungeons to ice-caverns, to jungles, to deserts, to floating-islands, even to the belly of a giant beast! Each is rendered in a very pretty and unique style. The three heroes (along with the narrator and some other characters) are very well voiced, all along the story and at each level. The music is nice too, although I can't state anything special about it.

Overall: Recommended, if you like puzzle-platform games that aren't too difficulty. The graphics are also a BIG plus to this game. You might wanna pass this, if you don't like fairy-tale settings or puzzles :)

The short length of the campaign and a few overly challenging puzzles are minor blemishes in an overall entertaining and worthwhile experience. Fans of the side-scrolling and platform genres need not look elsewhere, Trine 2 offers a wealth of truly innovative puzzles that are a welcome getaway from the current market of repeated genre titles.

To put it simply this is probably the most beautiful game I have ever played. It is a visually stunning work of art, the soundtrack is good. The game is actually relaxing, because it's like you're being read a fairy tale but you're also getting to play a very well executed platformer style game. Most games get me hyped up and my adrenaline flowing (or bore me so bad I stop playing them), this game was actually soothing, which I have never been able to say about a game before. So much fun, great story, gorgeous game. A must have.

"STOP THROWING BOXES AT ME" "GIVE ME THE ARCHER" "♥♥♥♥ING STOP GOING OFF SCREEN" "COME HERE" "OH MY GOD DO SOMETHING" "Sigh....." and many more comments will be present in such a playthrough. One of the most hilarious Co op experiences I have ever had.

First thing I noticed was that this game has very beautiful graphics. It is a 2D platformer, but it looks so dynamic and magical. I enjoyed a big part of the game almost only because of the graphics. It enhanced it, let's put it that way.

The gameplay is good as well. There is some action and you have to solve some puzzles to get further in the level. The combat is simple, and not overwhelming. Some puzzles are simple, others are quite difficult to solve. The co-op mode is good as well. You play basicly the same levels, but now with two characters. I doesn't make it easier at some points, because you really need to help each other. So it makes it really interactive.

The story is nice as well. The characters are good, they are well involved in the story, not just observing people who don't interact at all.

Really, I don't have anything negative to tell about Trine 2. I just love this game, it is fun to solo, and fun to play with a friend. I would recommend it to everyone. It is on sale quite often, so you can save a lot of money on that.

My rating for this game: 8/10
