I went into this expecting a super cute platformer game, and my god, never judge any more books by the cover. About half way into the game, it started going to hell, and I mean litterally, there were black arms with red clawed hands shooting up out of the water!!
Backgrounds get gnarled and twisted, death screens give you occaisonal messages such as "Ready! To die", "Stop", "Give up", and "Mother", it truley turns into something you'd see in an internet creepypasta.

It's very short, I was able to complete it in under an hour, but very entertaining. I'm not sure if I would call it worth $4.99, so maybe wait for a sale to get this odd little gem of a game.

Moral of this story, book covers can troll you.

Eversion is the kind of cutesy little platformer anyone would wanna sit down and have a nice and lovely little evening with. Gorgeous and vibrant retro-styled pixel art, an uplifting set of chiptunes, and a breezy little platforming adventure through a magical world. It's a simple little game for simple little times. Jump. Collect some crystals. Save the princess!

If you're in need of a happy and refreshing little adventure, Eversion is the ride for you.

It's really hard to talk about this game without ruining some of the surprise, so I'll just say that appearances can be very deceiving, and I feel like I absolutely got my $5 worth.

Quick review:

Short Verdict: DON'T BUY IT FOR YOUR CHILDREN! It starts out cute, but it turns evil quickly. Eversion is a fun, short game like the good old Super Mario, but with a twist and some puzzles. Definitely worth playing if you're into this genre, especially if it's on sale!

Pros:
  • Very immersive and atmospheric
  • Nice old school game mechanics
  • Unique world layers bring a nice puzzle aspect to the game
  • BGM matches really well the layer you're on
  • Well-balanced difficulty level
  • Collecting gems, hidden letters and the multiple endings adds to the depth of the puzzles

Cons:
  • Controls and movements are slightly clunky sometimes
  • Way too short--took me less than 2 hours to get all the achievements

Bought on / for: I traded it for a copy of Murder Miners, which was sitting on my inventory (I already had it in my account), so I pretty much think of Eversion as a game I got for free. Definitely worth playing if you already have it or if it's cheap like 1 or 2 dollars. But you wouldn't be wasting your money if you paid the full price. Just remember it's short.

Eversion is a 2D side scrolling indie platformer where you play as a Zee Tee, a walking flower, who must save the princess of the Flower Kingdom from the evil Ghulibas, at the start the game is cheery and bright, but if you caught from starting up the game the H.P. Lovecraft quote, the game soon becomes much darker.

The core mechanic of Eversion is your ability to swap between layers, or words, and the deeper you go the stranger and darker the the world around you becomes, the actual gameplay is fairly simple and though it does get challenging later on, it never gets to Super Meat Boy levels of frustration.

To give a bit of insight this game has eight levels, you can get every ending and achevement in this game in about two hours, however dispite what little there is here, it has charm to it, with the unsettling level and enemy design and tight controls it is fun for how long it lasts, after you complete the game a Time Attack mode opens as well, giving you a bit more replay value.

Note that Eversion is free to download on the creators website, the version you pay for here has more detailed artwork and the aforementioned Time Attack, if you are interested in the game and want to check it out I encourage you to try the free version, but either way this game is well worth paying for, even just to show friends and watch them freak out as the game grows darker.

This is a wonderful happy little platformer.

There is nothing else about it to mention.
