Version 1.1997

Creeping up to version 1.2...slooowly.

So in this patch the following has been fixed:

  • Added a Power booster building that will currently give you +10 energy per booster, it can be found at the end of the power capacitor upgrades in the research tree.
  • Can no longer fly a fighter into the office and shoot the CEO as aircraft will now explode on the first contact.
  • Asteroid nudge has gone from 3 minutes to 5 minutes
  • Power Reflector has gone from 5 minutes to 6 minutes.
  • Thorium crystals now only gives 15 power.
  • Only one CEO will now appear at the end of the game.
  • The flag on the back of the Gigantilator is now facing the right way.
  • When the CEO dies in a self destructed base the game will no longer crash if you keep watching for long enough.
  • The Desk forcefield button should appear now when researched.
  • The game has been made a bit more stable.

The reason for adding the power booster was to try and rebalance the game if someone has taken more crystals than you. The basic premise is that its better to get crystals, but if you cant then power boosters are your next option. Please let me know if this helps or if you feel the numbers need balancing a bit more.

Other News
I have always believed in open and honesty about the development of Executive Assault (something that seems to be some what of a rarity on Steam) so would like to use this opportunity to explain why patch releases have been a little slow lately.

I basically want staff and grow my company so that I can produce higher quality games.

However company expansion takes a lot of time and effort so I have been spending a large portion of my time doing this. I am still however dedicated to fixing issues that some of you find in Executive Assault but overall the game is in a very good state.

Hope you understand and realise that Hesketh Studios expanding is a good thing for everyone :) Think of it as long term plans that will eventually most likely lead to an upgrade of Executive Assault and the production of more great games for you to enjoy, it had to happen at some point.

“it’s playable, it’s fun, and I feel like it’s tugging on the bits of my brain I’d expect a good RTS to tug.”
Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“extensive research tree allowing you to create gigantic robots piloted by Martini drinking pilots, orbital strikes that obliterate the whole map, direct control of any unit you choose, cooperative or adversarial multiplayer and continuing updates from the developer all combine to make this one to buy”
8½ – GameGrin

About This Game

Executive Assault is an indie real-time strategy/first-person shooter where you can not only build your base and create armies, but also take control of your units and fight as one of them.

RTS mode

As the CEO put in charge of taking over the planet, it is your job to build large base complexes containing all the facilities you need, construct factories to produce robotic troops, research high technology to give you an edge over the competition and of course direct your army to annihilate the opposing company.

Each facility is designed to snap easily together to create a seamless complex, which can then be upgraded with defence turrets, doors, forcefields and many other exciting technologies to help defend you from attack.

As well as building your base, you will also need to control your armies to attack, defend and conquer new ground using high tech weaponry and cunning strategies to defeat your opponent. From nimble robots who are the backbone to your army, to heavy tanks and walkers to crush all who oppose you. Along side your troops you will have access to long range artillery and missiles to take out unsuspecting units from afar.

Scattered across the map are various resources to help you improve and build your operation, from Thorium crystals to help boost power, to random meteorite impacts to give you rare resources for constructing the most powerful of units.

FPS Mode

Have you ever played your favourite RTS game and wished you were down there with your troops? In Executive Assault you can be!

Take control of any of your units from down on the ground as a robot or tank, or take to the skies and bomb from your fighter jets or huge shielded hover cruisers, it’s completely up to you!

Unlike most RTS games with FPS elements, in Executive Assault you will be able to enter the buildings that have been constructed and fight from inside, adding a whole new dimension to the RTS genre. Be down there in your robot factory defending it from the oncoming hordes, or assault the opposing power station by breaking in and sabotaging their power grid.

Each unit in Executive Assault can be designed and customised to meet the needs of the battle. So if you find you’re being attacked by heavy walkers, then counter with heavy beam lasers to slice them down to size. Or if you find hordes of little bots are your problem, then upgrade your turrets with machine guns to rip them to shreds. In Executive Assault the decision is yours.

  • Command armies and build bases from above.
  • Take control of tanks, robots and aircraft to fully immerse yourself in the combat.
  • Multiplayer, as there’s nothing more satisfying than blowing up your friends with cruise missiles.
  • Co-op multiplayer game play where you can build a base in RTS and your friends can play as your robots in a pure FPS mode.
  • Design and construct bases which you can then walk and fight inside.
  • Control doors, turrets, alarms and forcefields to defend against attack.
  • An extensive technology tree featuring over 140 technologies ranging from lasers to Quantum Gateways.
  • Sneak into the enemy base and detonate their power station.

The game has a lot of strong points, including seamlessly jumping between RTS and FPS, a strong unit roster, and a huge upgrade tree. It's very fun to play with others, but the AI gets predictable, as it always does in an RTS.

I can think of a few changes that need to be made for this game to work.

1) the RTS controls are set up so it's incredibly difficult to select individual units, and there is no way to set up troops in a formation.
2) the maps are way too big with not nearly enough in them to keep them interesting. No secondary bases, no fortify-able hills, not even a lot of small interesting locations. The Dev needs to either make smaller maps, or spend more time playing with the ones he has and add stuff.
3) The resource system is messed up by the easily aquireable ability to call in resource meteor strikes at any time, virtually eliminating the need for taking over resource points outside of your base.
4) The game has no hotkeys and a UI that needs work. Want to select all bots on screen? set a patrol? tell your transports to ferry units? too bad. You can select and move your units, and maybe tell them to attack a specific target, but most of it requires micro, which is incredibly difficult with this game.
5) No bullet drop! if you have two lines of tanks, they will fire into each other's backs rather than over, killing half your troops in a single salvo! For a normal RTS, this is fine, but when you have an FPS element added to the game, it's a big deal.

For all it's problems, the game is slowly improving. I give the dev slack, because it's only one guy, and the game is pretty low cost for what you get, but it still has a long way to go if it's ever going to be great. If it's on sale, get your friends to buy a few copies too, so you have people to play with. Support the dev!

This has been one of my favourite RTS experiences in a long time. Graphically, the game looks good with a few exceptions on icons. The AI is challanging and the FPS hybrid aspect is very well done. Probably one of my favourite RTSs ever. Very enjoyable. I would highly recommend.

This game is one of the best RTS's I've played in a long time. And I know there is only a small dev team behind it, but there are still a lot of things to be fixed. But even with all these minor things, one huge thing shines through. The units seem to be very bad at tracking other units. They cannot aim for ♥♥♥♥. I'm surprised that no one else has stated this problem, and i have a lot of reviews. I'm not sure how to fix this problem, but it is game breaking. I had one drone walk through my entire army and into my headquarters and kill me. I had turrets, tanks, walkers, and drones set up and he strolled right through without taking any damage. No dodging, just walking in a straight line. But other than this problem, i find this game to be amazing.

Jeeps also don't attack, and planes dodge everything except the fully upgraded laser.

I am a very big fan of the game so far, so many times ive thrown my hands up and just laughed while getting destroyed or exclaimed praise at my units when winning...
Looking forward to further updates and more ridiculous battles.
If you're looking for an early access to support with fps/rts elements, look no further.

plays executron with a bot as the actual leader (i wish they had ai executrons...wouldnt make much sense but it would fill an empty gap...)
bot eventually crashes or something and i have to create units myself with the consoles..
bot decides to only make crappy unupgraded infantry..still doesnt research them..
enemy infantry enters open hall way
forced to fight by myself, constantly dying and respawning
decides "♥♥♥♥ it" and turns off reactor cooling of own base
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chairman ceo decides to walk down and turn on the cooling himself
shot the ceo with crappy gun...we die together in an explosion...
12/10 would kill-suicide because of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ceo again

Four hours so far messing around with the mechanics and some easy AI vs. It isn't bad, but hopefully it will be funded by our wallets so we get more polished content. Keep the updates coming!

I originally bought this game with the intention of playing multiplayer with my nephew when he's at my house. But all I get is...

"Game has desynced due to: Dreadful connection"

I searched online and learned that multiplayer in this game is hosted on an online server, and not from my local pc. Where I live, my only option for internet is satellite internet. Which means my ping rate is always going to suck, and also means that I will absolutely never be able to play this in multiplayer, which is what I originally wanted to do with it. Well, this was one huge waste of my time.

So if you live in an area with bad internet, and ever hope to multiplayer this with someone sitting right next to you... realize that it will never happen.

I miss the days when developers knew what a lan option was, or a direct ip connection.

Also, I multiplayer a lot of steam games at my house, this problem almost never comes up, except for this game. I'm very, very dissappointed.

Here's a list of more negatives...
-AI Jeeps don't fire correctly, or hardly at all.
-Radar minimap dots are extremely tiny and impossible to see.
