About This Game

Hunt - Explore - Survive

Welcome Pioneer!

Step into a huge Cretaceous world (24 km² / 9.3 mi²) where the very environment will test your survival skills to the max. This is the planet of Primal Eden. Help us reclaim, subdue and eradicate the savage wilderness so that we may plant the seed of civilization in its place. If you are successful, we will permanently erase your criminal records. If you fail, your dead body's nourishing of wild plants and animals will be seen as treason against the Expansive Galaxies Corporation and your extended family will be volunteered as Pioneers.

There should be some supplies in your drop pod to get you started. In order to survive, you will need to explore the world in search of more powerful weapons, clothing and ammo. Sounds easy? Well, not only is the island littered with poisonous plants, but deadly dinosaurs roam the island looking to feast on the weak.

Planet Primal Eden is inhabited by 5 different dinosaur species, including the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex and the much-dreaded Quetzalcoatlus, a.k.a. Menace of the Skies. Careful planning, cooperation and backpacks filled with ammo and weapons are crucial to your survival.

theHunter: Primal is a new instalment in the highly popular and critically acclaimed theHunter franchise, created by Expansive Worlds and Avalanche Studios. Since its release, the original game has grown into a 5 million strong player community, and is still growing rapidly.

theHunter: Primal offers both single player and multiplayer modes, with the option of creating private gaming sessions. If you are looking for a serious challenge, turn on the PVP function, team up with your friends and let all hell break loose. If you prefer cooperative hunting, you can turn off the PVP function and join your friends and other players in an effort to bring down the beasts of planet Primal Eden.

The game features a persistent inventory system, which means that everything you’ve collected in one game session will remain in your inventory in the next one. But it comes with a price. If you die, all your equipment is lost. If you are fast enough you can pick up your lost backpack before another hunter loots your stuff.

Happy hunting!

Game does not work, error code 103741819; the game cannot boot up properly. Windows 10 PC and the program crashes at startup. Apparently the developers gave up on this game. Therefore, anyone looking to buy this game should give up on that quest and not taake the risk. It IS a great game, which makes it utterly annoying that you get far and you cannot play, unexpectedly. Very disappointed.

I like the game very much but I think more dinosaurs should be added and maybe less sound to hear the dinosaurs coming. Also maybe add some more guns and faster walking

This game is pretty fun. It needs more to be added though. Theres definitly lot of space for improvement, but the devs aren't focusing on this as much as their other games so sadly I doubt it will ever reach its full potential.

Primal is one of the few games that sincerely and beautifully implements the idea of dinosaur hunting; I'm not talking about some Turok style title where dinos are just a more exoctic kind of antagonist/cannon fodder for a player. I mean the kind that truly gives a player the thrill of hunting these creatures, but also the feeling of being the hunted. Bought it when it was still relatively new (had only three dinos; utahraptor, tricerotops, and t-rex), and it's made a few steps by adding two new species since. Landscapes are beautiful, the game of cat and mouse is as exciting as it is nerve-racking... Unfortunately, it seems as though Primal has been doomed to the graveyard of those other titles where the developer simply got tied up elsewhere, or (sadly) just stopped caring about it. I haven't given up hope completely; if you've followed Stranded Deep, the game went MONTHS without any new updates, but the developers eventually came back to it, and have been working on it, as if showing remorse for the long period of neglect. Perhaps Primal might share a similar fate, but perhaps not. Definitely worth the buy, but only if it's on a sale. It's fun for the first few hours, but the developers haven't given me much of a reason to dive back in again. Fingers crossed though

Before you read too much into this, theHunter: Primal is a good game.

However, the lack of updates and support from developers leaves this game feeling too empty and unrewarding for the player.

The game currently features only 5 dinosaurs to hunt which isn't bad to start, but it get's old fast. This isn't helped by the fact that two of them behave very similarly, so you basically only have 4 unique dinos to hunt.

Again, if the game were recieving constant updates this would be fine, but it's become pretty clear that this game is dead to them so they can work on more lucrative projects.

The only bonus I guess would be that nothing is locked behind a pay wall like in theHunter. You get everything just for buying the game.

That being said, the game itself is fun. It is an actual hunting simulator that you hunt dinosaurs in. Many people complain that it takes too long to get from A to B and that there isn't enough going on for most of the game. While things are spread VERY far appart and it can take a long time to walk to where you want to go... it's a hunting simulator.

You're supposed to track things for a long time and have to walk long distances. It makes it feel more real for me. Just don't be expecting to run into the dino you're looking for after a few minutes or have giant, face paced battles constantly.

The game is very much: walk, track, walk, track, walk, track, shoot, track, walk, etc.

Again, fine for some people, but not most.

The main point of complaint would be lack of updates. The game does feel unfinished with only 5 dinos and no real reward system other than just buying better equipment. (Which is actually just annoying due to ammo and weight restrictions.)

TL;DR: Amazing concept and execution hampered by the fact that the devs care more about money than this game. It's fun for a few hours but get's old fast. If you really want a realistic dino hunting game, buy this when it's on sale.

A lot of people have criticized this game for being slow-paced and having only a small selection of dinosaurs to hunt. I think it's because a lot of folks purchased this game expecting it to be like Turok - a fast paced, blood-soaked, action-shooter. But this game plays a lot more like an open-world Resident Evil/Don't Starve with dinosaurs. This game is about tension, about patience, and about getting scared out of your pants. The open-world is gorgeous, and unlike most open-world games, this one seems empty - just as a real wild area would feel. This means when you find a dinosaur or, more likely, groups of them, the impact on you and your choices and gameplay is enormous. And having only a few species in any one area is more "realistic" anyway, a small island can't support big populations. Each dinosaur species requires completely unique strategies and tactics to take it down, and will hunt (or not hunt) you in completely different ways. That's much more enriching than having 500 monsters who all just bum-rush you and just need a headshot to kill them. Yawn.

The first time you're staring at a treeline and see a pack of raptors melt out of the shadows and start stalking across the open plains, or are cresting a ridgeline and see, in the distance, a huge tyrannosaur wandering along the ridge toward you, silhouetted against the starlit sky, and you start praying to anyone who's listening that it goes the other way and never finds you. . . you'll be hooked, I promise.

I won't lie, this game is *rough*. It definitely feels like an indie game, the controls can be a bit buggy, and the AI oscillates wildly from being unutterably brilliant to "that raptor keeps running into that tree". But in terms of pure, emotional turmoil and painting a picture of constant tension and subtle, creeping terror I've simply never ever seen in a game before, Hunter Primal is worth a shot. So, pick this up if you want a deep adrenaline rush. Don't pick it up if you want Call of Duty with dinosaurs. Simple as that.

P.S. This game gives me nightmares about being hunted by dinosaurs. That's how well it's crafted to get at your mammalian prey-instincts!

Before you make up your mind about this game due to negative comments or even positive ones hear me out.

The game takes on a very slow paced hunting experience where you cannot rush and kill everything so I recomend don't get it if you have terrible patience. the main problem is that the developers gave up...

I enjoyed this game so much and hate to give up on it because the developers would rather back other games that they own that ended up being very disliked (The hunter). This game has great potential as many people before me have said but it has not been updated in a very long time so unless I hear something from the developers im gonna keep this review negative.

a personel note for the developers: please update this game it has amazing potential but you let it sit there and I personally have been looking for a good hunting game for a very long time and I want it to be this game so please get to it.

So, I have this game for a while now and as you can see, didn't play it that much. That is because the game was full of bugs back then when I bought it.
I waited a long time now and there haven't been any Updates for a long time now.
That's pretty dissappointing. I thought this game could be very good and it has a good concept, just the way it got optimized isn't good.

Now the game costs 10 Euro, back then I paid like 25 Euro for this. Was definetly not worth that price, probably 10 Euro is too much aswell.
I would say do not buy this unless you want a dinosaur game which gets no Updates and maybe entertains you for 1 or 2 hours. (well thats just what I think.)

I thought this would be a really good game looked great, but after playing on my own for get used to it and then joining a server to play and not feeling very welcome I have decided to stick with the Isle where the people you play with are friendly,

Might have been better if every time you died you did not lose all you found,

Really scummy devoloper. Made it look like a really good game that they would keep on updating with new content. They literally gave up on the game after 2 ♥♥♥♥ing updates. I even bought it when it was 20 bucks and not 10 but its not even worth 10. Not enough content.

NOT A PRE-RELEASE REVIEW

This is one of my favorite alpha games ever to hit Steam.. And It's a damn shame I have to stomp it into the ground because during the estimated 1-2 years of work I expected this game to take before beginning to reach a finished state, the developers had a stroke of genius and decided that it would be a good idea to call this HEAVY ALPHA GAME a FULLY RELEASED TITLE after being on Steam for only 5-6 months. Doing so, Avalanche Studios have yet again showed the world that they do not give a damn about actually delivering a polished product to customers and fans alike and instead falsely advertise & release yet another unfinished glitch-fest onto Steam like a big, flaccid díck onto your dinner table, expecting a price-tag of 30€ for an experience you can expect out of a glitchy tech demo.

I mean holy hell. They JUST spewed out a new dinosaur with this "release update".. AND IT HAS NO TESTING DONE TO IT WHATSOEVER. If you still insist on buying this garbage, kindly make note of the following issues the game currently has:

------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Animations for both dinosaurs and players are on a "Proof of Concept" level at most, and when combined with point 2, It makes for a disgusting game-play experience as far as immersion is concerned.

2. The AI is absolutely atrocious. All dinosaurs can get extremely stuck on certain hills, get seizures or freeze up indefinitely if you decide to go up on a rock, the T-Rex can use you as a surf-board and stand ontop of you indefinitely without being able to attack if you go prone and have him not see and "aggro" you directly (Realistic, right?), The smallest of dinosaurs can take 10+ shotgun slugs to the head (and smash their skulls to thousand pieces) and still be alive & charge your person endlessly with no difficulty or signs of being stunned whatsoever, T-Rexes can with a 100% accuracy pinpoint your location If they hear you, say, walk at a steady pace 500 meters away, they WILL rush your location and insta-gib you unless you log out. Fun fun fun!

3. The game has a disgusting lack of realism. Building on the previous statement of the dinosaurs having nonexistant AI in regards to stun or reactions overall, the game does not allow you to do VERY basic things like jumping while also having an absolutely broken "Hit-detection" system whereas you can know the exact angle and 3d space of say, a raptor's heart, shoot it with a shotgun slug.. And have the bullet either go through him completely, missing all organs or hit another bodypart. It's disgustingly random and sometimes, you can even get one-shot-kills without hitting any organs - and have no damage show up in the dino death re-cap window. There are also another giant design problem and that is the way that foilage works in this game. Dinosaurs do not say, leave grass bent or otherwise moved when they pass through it. It's like they're ghosts, so every time you chase or otherwise look for a dino where foilage is thick - you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE IT. EVEN IF YOU KNOW IT'S RIGHT INFRONT OF YOU IN THE GRASS. It is one of these GIANT design issues that force you to avoid grassy areas all-together and it really brings light on how much of an alpha game this shít of a title really is.

4. The game is very unoptimized. Most PC's struggle to run this game and while I didn't have any particular big problems myself, the forums speak for themselves though and following the numerous complaints I saw, I made a closer inspection and did infact see that my G-Card had a tendency to being extremely hot when playing.

5. The developers do not take advice or read the forums. Ditto. It took them literally 3-4 months to notice a typo in the forum section called "Thoughts & Suggtesions" or something like that and that's just a depressing realization as there are literally hundreds of posts made - Not ONE of them has seen their ideas/suggestions been implemented into the game.

6. There is legitimately no goal in this game. You roam around like an idiot (sometimes for a whole hour or more if you're unlucky), looking for dinosaurs with a shoddy bow and If you want to have different weapons, you HAVE TO <-- go to a pre-defined location and rummage through larger crates... Or die and go to the store that have rétárded level restrictions on all weapons & ammo that can sometimes require you to kill literally hundreds of dinos before having THE OPTION <-- to spend your own points to spawn with the gun you want next time you die. Crafting? End-game? Goals? Plot? Story? What's that?

7. Sounds are downright broken and extremely confusing. Your own footsteps can make stomping noises with that of a T-Rex if you take small steps and listen carefully while certain raptors simply have no sounds to them at all except the standard "chop" attack bits while others have loud yelping calls, aggro noises, etc etc. While It certainly has jump-scared me a few times to get my buttocks suddenly chewed on by something that didn't make even the tiniest of noise, having some raptors suddenly become Batman in the Jungle while the rest are akin with that of howler monkeys is not a good as far as gameplay consistency is concerned.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Avoid this game and for the love of god, avoid the developers just as much. unless you enjoy being ripped off.
