New Patch - V2.8 Major Update!

I'm pleased to announce that many hair ripping issues has been fixed:

  • Fixed Kitchen Cut Scene View/Dialogue Issue
  • Raised Damage on the P38, MP40 & G43
  • Fixed an issue with the FG-42, you couldn't pick it up/unlock it despite having the achievement necessary
  • Removed bullet tracers while ironsighted
  • Fixed the common crash many has experienced, the crash was caused by dropping inventory items.
  • Hopefully fixed an issue preventing people to get to the main menu (on launch)
  • Fixed an issue related to subtitles
  • Some music and other generic sounds weren't affected by the music or game volume, this has now been fixed
  • Changed the Stephano Collectible pickup sound
  • Added a new easter egg in the Kitchen area... And NO, it's not a PewDiePie easter egg...

IMPORTANT:
Due to a big change in the inventory items server side logic using your previous saves might come in conflict with the new items (only dropped items).

Best Regards,
Bernt

- Enjoy

Grobuskna is a detective, as a side thing he's been trying to keep track of remaining Nazi officers spread around the world.
Despite the fact that he knows who took his parents, he still doesn't know where he's hiding.

Update: Having now completed the game. I have added a few more bullet points (in italics). Mild spoilers.

    • I have no idea what's happening storywise.
    • The enemies look ridiculous and are hard to beat unless you can pre-empt them.
    • Your character's name changes subtly with every person who tries to pronounce it.
    • There is a strong possibility you'll drop a lung laughing at the jump scares.
    • It tries to imitate Slenderman by using what I can only assume is a Source version of ET, and even then they fail to have it chase you.
    • And I'm pretty sure I missed an item I need in an area I'm now locked out of.
    • I got killed by an exploding chest with a russian man dancing on it while "who let the dogs out" played until I quit.
    • Puzzles include tilting a Hitler painting to move a bookcase, but only AFTER some enemies have appeared, and articulation of this idea is totally non-existent.
    • One puzzle requires a circular saw. There is a circular saw in the room, but you can't use it for whatever reason. You need one from somewhere else.
    • You will lose contact with the floor and get stuck in jump animation loops when walking over objects like "newspaper" and "stairs"
    • One of the bosses appear twice because... I'm not sure.
    • The rest of the bosses are poorly explained, or just dumb.
    • Some enemies are spawned next to doors. These enemies will absorb 15 rounds from the MP-40, but down you with 3-4 knife hits.
    • You will never, ever, pick up the ammo in front of you first. You will magnetically attract buckets and chairs first, and once they're gone you'll still be at the wrong angle/distance to obtain the ammo.
    • The story is no clearer by the end than the begininning. Not sure if it's there at all, actually.
    • Final boss sucks. Not sure you can even call it a boss.
    • You can't enter the final area until you do some convoluted ♥♥♥♥ to turn the lights on because "it's dark down there". I was holding a torch. And it turns out some people were fighting off waves of enemies for a long time down there. Apparently in the dark.

There you have it. Still recommending it (for comedy purposes): 10/10
However, as an actual game: 3/10

Despite this being a free to play game, I still find myself compelled to write a negative review for it.

The core gameplay is broken. Enemies move too quickly, and are extremely difficult to shoot (pretty much impossible once they are right up next to you). The exploration is boring and the level design is overly complex at times. The main menu and inventory use this awful LOUD “ding” sound when you highlight different things. It’s incredibly off putting and just plain annoying.

I’m surprised I made it over an hour into the game, but I suppose my love for the source engine is stronger than I thought. Not strong enough to finish it though.

This game was for me an experience. The story is somewhere in the middle of the 40's, during ww2. I expected something like zombies or ghosts, but there were just some ugly freaks and bloody psyckopaths with knives and hammers. Weird game, but good graphic for being a free game on steam. I've come to the middle of it now and don't know what to do. It's hard to know what you are supposed to do in the game. So one thing that is bad about this is the story. I don't understand the story of the game so much actually. I mean you are a guy, who is looking for something, and there are these freaks and probably aliens around you. (cause one of the enemies looks like a sort of alien) So if you want to try out this strange, but sometimes interesting game, be prepared for places there you can get stuck and have to figure it out how to do.

    points 4/10

It's a shame that the developer was so focused on making Youtube Fodder for guys like Pewdiepie/Markiplier etc. That he actually could've had something pretty good. I can't make a full list of all bad things here because there are simply too many. From getting stuck on world geometry, to bad stock scream effects, to the completely still 3D models that slide across a hallway. This has all the signs of a truely awful game...

But there are signs of potential here. Even if they were unintentional, there is some good things in this game. The level design of the mansion, is actually really well done. I know it was heavily inspired by the Resident Evil 1/Remake mansion, and its almost completely ripped off, but just different enough that it stands out. The music and atmosphere during the time you spend wandering the mansion is also really fitting and sets the mood right.

To make this short, The Forgotten Ones is awful.. But I can recommend it on the basis that it's free, and has great level design that makes me hope for a bigger project like this.

From a promising start with decent atmosphere, the game takes a nose dive as soon as you enter the hotel. Could have been good, but horrible bugs, horrible gameplay, and horrible scares definitely don't add up to a good horror game.

Honestly, I saw someone write a 'review' and they didn't explain anything, just said it was awful, but 'good for a free game.' Hearing this simply made me curious. Why did he say that everything was awful but good for a free game? So, I decided to play and actually take notes. Well, I played about an hour of it, and then I quit. Here's a list of the problems I found with the game.
1): Missing textures. If I'm downloading your game, please provide all the textures. It really removes from the atmosphere when I have missing texture here and there.
2): Controls. They're not bad, but I was stuck in the beginning because ‘F’ was the Use key, instead of the traditional ‘E’ key. I know that’s not really a problem, but an explanation would have been nice. Sure, it did tell you, after you left the room, which requires you to figure it out first. Little late, thanks. While we’re on controls, the car was absolutely terrible. I flipped the car on accident, and the brake is so horribly done. Could use for some fixing. Plus, there’s no need to go /that/ fast in this game.
3): Achievements: I got the Slenderman Achievement, and I don’t even know how. This could just be me, but I looked at a gramophone and hit F, and got it. Did I miss Slenderman, or what?
4): Stephano was in it. Clearly this is directed at PewDiePie, but I saw a ‘collected 1/3’ pop up, and even though I’m not a fan, I’m also not against him in any way, but I don’t want to have PewDiePie literally shoved into my face when I’m playing a game. Maybe have it in game, but don’t make it a side mission or anything.
5): Invisible boarders. You had a perfectly fine set up with the entire area surrounded in a log fence, but people can get over those and walk into an invisible wall, which is terrible. Simple put the invisible wall where the log fences are, and then I wouldn’t have gotten my car stuck on the fence.
6): Animations could use some work. Swimming animation looks really awkward, there’s no animation when you’re driving outside of the tires moving. I.E. Character doesn’t turn the steering wheel, or react at all.
7): There were several areas where lights were being emitted with no source.
8): More than half of the notes didn’t have voice acting while some did. This is just odd, either do voice acting for all of them, or none.
9): Monsters did not feel threatening at all. They shook around when they ran towards you or stood still like they were from Cry of Fear or something. This was far more annoying than threatening or scary. Speaking of monsters, confronting them was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. If two of them got close enough to you, you’re more than likely dead. This doesn’t make them threatening, this makes them annoying.
10): There were grammar issues, but I don’t really care that much.
11): The Bolt cutters worked weird. Cut the chain, and the basement doors broke… What?
12): When loading for the next stage there’s a chance of running into a bug. You’re ported to the other side of the door, and once in a while the game just sticks you there, and forgets to load, leaving you stuck.
13): So many unnecessary transitions between rooms. The maps not loading anything new, it’s just porting me to the other side of the door. Opening the door would have been easier.
14): Unrealistic use for TNT. You DO NOT use TNT just to open a freaking door made of four to five planks of ♥♥♥♥ wood! I had a sledge hammer that could have easily broken the door, and yet I wasted TNT to blow it up. Why?! I could have saved that and used it for something more constructive, creative, or useful! Absolutely terrible, not to mention, I wrote nearly half of that before the TNT exploded. It took forever to go off.
15): There were way too many loading screens. I felt like I was waiting more than I was playing.
16): Why was there multiple choice answers/questions? From what I saw nothing was changing up, and it kept going back until I clicked all of them. A cut scene, sure that works, but having me click the questions/answers until all were done was pointless and time wasting.
I’m sure there’s a lot more, but honestly, there was just so much terrible crap going on that I just couldn’t keep playing, wasn’t worth the hardware space. Not worth it, not even if it’s free.

    Pros:
    Ability to drive,
    Wonderful maps,
More items to grab and use as weapons,
    Soundtrack is great,
    and of course, it's free.

    Cons:
    Lack of Gamepad support.
    Unrealistic Running Speed and slowdown.
The voice acting could do a little more polishing.

    Major Con:
Whoawhoawhoa, what the ♥♥♥♥ is this? Pewdiepie references? PEWDIEPIE?! Ok, this somewhat pisses me off. If you want Pewdiepie's attention, it can be attracted without having all these stephanos and crap laying all around.
With that happening, you can also attract other gamers as well who would support this game, but the Pewdiepie references are just too far.

May as well slap "Pewdiepie: The game" over the title.

From the trailer to the beginning of the game it looks promising. Atmosphere is great. The voice is acting is a MEH. But when you get to the hotel, OH BOY arnt you in for a treat. When you get to the hotel, the "action" and horror start. It has some ok horror, the AI however... is not ok. The enemies in this game are a suppose to be a scary 2 headed creature but in acuality, they are robots that ATTACK NON-STOP! I was stuck on the first level because it will throw 2 ONE COMMAND ROBOTS to destroy you. OH, the only way to get a LMG in this game... beat the game or donate. Getting an INFINITE AMMO LMG requires you to PAY or TRY and beat this Amnesia FPS knock off. The only and I mean ONLY 2 things they should work on is a little on voice acting and a ♥♥♥♥TON on AI. This Game deserves a 5/10. It would be 4/10 if it wasnt for the games atmosphere. (SIDE NOTE: Im still on the first level)

im a big fan of games of old school graphics like doom and castle woolfinstien but this game called The Forgotten Ones is really rubbish and dull not to mention that the slightest little thing hurts and nearly kills you and every person is generic of only 4 diffrent faces and 2 outfits WTF.
It's easy to get stuck right at the start of the game where it will not let you progress and does not give you hints or anything of what you are meant to do next just to get a little further in the game.

Personally myself im never going to waste my time on this so called sorry excuse of a game,
You can install it and try it for yourself but you wont last long on playing it that's for sure.

Personaly .... avoid this game like it's the plauge

More Frustrating than scary. It feels a little like amnesia with guns, although with lesser graphics. It also reminds me of Cry of Fear because of its poor graphic quality and fast moving monsters. It gets pretty frustrating at times because of the scarcity of save stations and frequency of attacks. 4/10

The real goal of the game is to let the dogs out.
    I'll tell you how.

    1. Get the sledge hammer.
    2. Go to 2nd floor dinning room.
    3. Find chest that reads "it won't open..."
    4. Use sledge hammer on chest.
    5. Win the game!
