About This Game

It is the year 1830, and a young governess named Ester has just received a letter that will change her life forever.

The message from her aunt tells Ester that her parents, whom she never met, left her an inheritance – a mansion in London. But when she goes there, it turns out that the residence is abandoned, run-down, and haunted.

When she explores the mansion, slowly learning her family’s secrets, she discovers that for many centuries, members of her family have been investigating the phenomenon of time travel. Soon Ester finds a strange object that confirms the extraordinary legacy of the Ambrose family. This is how her exciting journey, which will lead her to places – and times - she had previously only seen in dreams, begins.

During her adventure across time and space, she will discover forgotten artifacts, meet extraordinary beings, and experience supernatural events. Trying to unravel the secrets of her heritage, Ester grows ever more entangled in an ancient struggle between the wizard Merlin and his rival, Viviana.

Another good Artifex Mundi game. I didn't experience any of the issues some other reviews are complaining about.

Solid Artifex Mundi HOG. It's older, so the graphics aren't as good as their more recent games.

Frustrating!

Buyer beware, this game has some frustrating issues.

Artifex Mundi normally creates fair and enjoyable, even outright well playable games but this one isn't up to the great expectations that come with the trademark Artifex Mundi. Some riddles are bugged, or so destructively constructed that you won't find a solution after you started to dabble with the riddle. I would prefer a reset button for the riddles, because once a mistake is done you can only use hint (which also isn't always helpful). The HOS are sometimes unfair, because you can't exactly make out what is what (in one picture it was incense that wasn't found, in another a butterfly, and then there were other things so well hidden - that you can't find them without a hint).

Pro:
  • Good graphics, sound and Bonus Content.
Con:
  • Unfair riddles because there is no reseting them - some of them are unsolvable after dabbling with them!
  • HOS are overloaded and sometimes too dark to see them clearly.

Conditionally Recommended

Because of the sometimes unfair riddles that can't be set back to start (and thus can't be solved after playing around with them). In my oppinion the game has earned more a no then a yes, this is why I said no... others might have not such a bad start with the game at all... And it isn't Flying Dutchman... give it a try, when it's really, really cheap...

NOTE: You should play the third game in this series as well to get the full experience of the story and also closure.

That being said, this game is a HUGE improvement from the first Time Mysteries. Both with story, artwork, game play and voice acting. While the game leaves some questions unanswered from the first one, it adds more depth to the Ambrose mythos.

You play Esther, an orphan who suddenly finds out she's a member of the Ambrose family and is sucked into the time traveling adventures. Through her you learn how far reaching the Ambrose family is as well as about the great Merlin and Viviana who started the family line.

The biggest improvement to the game is how you time travel. No more rings and Time Museums, instead you have a portable device that you add time crystals too, a different one for the year and place you wish to travel to making life super easy. As such, what you do in the past can alter the future of a certain location. You can plant a sapling in the past, then go say 100 years into the future and there it is as a fully grown tree.

As you time travel you'll be solving puzzles and playing hidden item scenes which are all filled with beautiful artwork and a challenge. There is no room for boredom in this game, especially if you're after the achievements which aren't hard to acquire. The game also comes with trading cards if you're into that sort of thing.

This game left me so eager to continue the story I started part three the same day I finished this game. It was fun, challenging, interesting and kept me wanting more. I say buy it, buy it now!

Yep, I bought a lot of hidden games at one point. Some have ben good, others are like this.

Pro:
Good looks
Adequate length (not overly long or short)
OK audio
Bonus content
Steam cards, achieves & cloud

Con:
Controls sometimes suck (multiple passes, clicks, etc)
Some of the hidden objects are hidden alright (actually invisible)
$9.99 CDN? A little overpriced
Full screen only
Story is a bit dull when you consider the temporal aspects allows a lo

Overall:
5/10 +1 cards, +1 bonus content, -1price, -1 controls, -1 invisible objects = 4/10

An adequate hidden object game, but with some serious flaws.
You should grab #3 (#1 maybe) for the entrie experience.

In my opinon the flaws and price outweights the story, so only pick it up if you can get it cheap.
