Before you judge my decision, please be aware that I loved this game.

So Grand Chase, yeah. This was my most favourite side scrolling action mmo, that no other game of this type could beat. I prefered it over Elsword, LaTale and all of this kind of stuff. It was kinda original and it felt just so good to play it and level up all of your heroes under one name. I did not play for long and when I saw the annoucement that it comes to Steam, I was really happy and looking forward to download it.

However, everything was wrong. You need to buy character slots, no more character quests, servers are ♥♥♥♥, community dead, also it stutters alot for no moving it on steam, or by Elsword company taking over it the game died. Everything good is gone, and I am quite sure it wont be any better, cuz they have already the Elsword game, which is more popular, and they wont care about this game too much (I guess). However, I would not be mad if I could get suprised and this game became good again, but that just never happens.

Let a veteran from a time long forgotten tell you something: This entire game has been pay to win from the start, and it has been evident ever since Dio came out that this travesty that the corporate snake KoG calls a "game" was dying. So in their mind, having insanely oped characters constantly spewed out, giving out free cash sets at reaching SS rank, giving you stupid amounts of free KC for migrating accounts will keep their mentally deprived community from leaving, and you know what? They were right.

People still continue to support a game with a hell of a lot more misses than hits, and the logic behind that will forever be a mystery to me. In short, don't play this game.

1. This is going to be a long review. You have now been notified.
2. Of course, the hours displaying how much time I have put into this game must be about 0.1Hrs or so. But don't let this fool you.
3. I will not be diving deep into how game mechanics work and such.
4. Sorry about how my opinions and thoughts are all over the place.

I am what you call... True veteran of this game. Ones who played this game since the beginning, back in South Korea, until the present. This game's been out for a LONG time and I have played this since the original season when it didn't even have the word "Season -Insert number here-", the game only had three original characters, Elesis, Lire, and Arme, and Lass later released some time later. This is arguably the first MMORPG I have ever set foot on, and that's really hard to say from a South Korean due to other popular MMORPGs like MapleStory.

There are very little people who remember how the original season was. The Quest mode, the Monster Hunting/Matches mode, the Job Advancement mode, etc. all in one single lobby between multiple servers. But of course, every game needs changes, right? For satisfaction of their custome... Ehem, pardon me... I mean, players.

Season 2 was a huge change. In fact, I loved the new change. Having so many new PvE maps, level cap increase, mission system, and the new characters. What I didn't realize back then, was that this was the genesis of frightening changes.

Every person who has played an MMORPG KNOWS for a FACT, that if new characters or classes come into play, they are ALWAYS overpowered and put the older characters to shame.
And Grand Chase is a MAJOR, if not BIGGEST, example of this fact.

My favorite character is Lass. Played Arme since the beginning, but chose to leave her for Lass. I'm a gamer who always studies and learns about things beforehand to choose things that match my type of gameplay and style, and Lass was the one. Like how I mentioned above, the game had very distinguishable character system and one of them was the stat system.

ATT - Attack / DEF - Defense / VIT - Vitality / SPD - Speed
[Elesis was the "tank" character with high DEF and VIT for lower ATT and SPD / Lire was the "strategic" character with average ATT, DEF, VIT, and SPD / Arme was the "magical powerhouse" with high ATT, average DEF, low VIT and SPD / Lass was the "physical powerhouse" with high ATT, low(est) DEF, average VIT, and high(est) SPD]

Now then, you can see that there's ALOT of things wrong in that chart I showed you up above if you have played the game recently. Want to know why? Because our devs, after creating and releasing so many new overpowered characters, despite what the players have said, "balanced" the older characters rather than nerfing the newer characters. But is the "balance" worth anything? Not at all.

Ever since Lass was released (as the first new character ever to be released in the game), he hasn't gotten a single buff (Do not come here to tell me his Theif ST, his illustrations/facial motion, retouched class command lists updates were buffs, because they were all ABSOLUTELY useless compared to what other characters have gotten.) and has constantly been getting nerfed, and for no good reason!

Is he still the most powerful physical character now? Pfft, please.
Is he still the fastest character now? Pfft, please.
Is he still the character with the lowest DEF? Of course, why wouldn't he be?

They took away Lass's core strengths in the game and threw it away. Then they just left him as the character with the lowest DEF, next-to-nothing firepower, and speed thats now outshined by most new characters.

Now that that's over, back to the main topic of Character Balancing. The game has total of 19 characters, right? I lost track because there's so much. The game introduced 2 new game mechanics, AP and AMP system within certain characters. MP characters are free to hold down your Z button until a certain amount and perform specials. AP characters are free to customize the keys ASDFG with various Techniques and Specials and lets you cancel out of Specials with your Techniques for more freedom, all at the cost of not being able to constantly perform Specials due to cooldowns. AMP characters are a fusion of both MP and AP, and thus an overpowered mechanic.

Well, eventually the game devs actually saw that AMP characters were too powerful, so they decided to put out a new patch. The patch made it so that AMP characters cannot cancel out of Specials with Techniques, but what did that also do? Disable the function for AP characters, rendering AP characters almost useless, and it ESPECIALLY effected a character named Lupus (Rufus in NAGC) the most, because his gimmick as a character was to be able to constantly cancel in and out of Specials and Techniques as he wanted with average type of skills. Now Lupus has nothing and players in KGC have raged over at this situation yet nothing has been done over it.

Dungeon system is fine, but with major flaws. Instead of just giving new attacks, having more buffed monsters, etc. guess what the game does to raise its difficulty? Making mobs go into constant super armors and dealing obscene amounts of overpowered damage. Yet, somehow our life count has been cut down to 1 now instead of being able to go up to 5. If we only get one life from the start and not be able to gain any more without the use of Bonus or Natal Ring, what is the point of that "1" on the tip of our HP bar now?

Prepare for the worst balancing in PvP history. Unless you are VERY skilled with no lag, you will have no chances to win. All these overpowered characters rule over PvP with insane amounts of super/hyper armor time, obscene amounts of buff/abnormal status effect skills, overpowered 1st MP/AP skills... If thats not all, if the opponent lags and you don't know how to abuse grab mechanic, prepare to rage quit. It's funny how out-of-country players complain about not being able to play the game... If they cause so much trouble in PvP, they should stay out.

The game has a storyline. Even if you always skip all dungeon dialogues, you will be greeted with some sort of forced storyline cut-scene such as the epilogue of the last dungeon in Archemedia and Veigas' character dungeon. For a game that constantly tries to delve into the story, its plot is horrifying. Not only are there numerous amounts of plot holes, there are things that you NEVER get to find out unless you personally visit KGC's Naver Blog! Why is it not in-game? Who knows, because I sure don't.

The updates... Reason why I say "customers" above on one of the top lines is because the major things they update most of the time are RNG-based Gacha items with low chances of dropping. And when KGC DOES get a true update, NAGC updates in slow fillers...

In Conclusion:
Now most likely you will only see these characters in-game:
Lire, Ronan, Sieghart, Dio, Zero, Rin, Asin, Lime, and Edel.
Why, you ask? Because the balancing is terrible and those characters above are overpowered monsters without a single noticeable nerf. If you are just starting Grand Chase and don't choose any of those characters I mentioned above... Good luck.

Try to have fun in a PvP match against any of the characters I have mentioned above. Pretty sure you won't. Also, there are multiple people who self-acclaim to be the "#1 -Insert character name here-" that use one of those characters up above and do nothing but generic BS in a match to win and are so darn prideful that they constantly make up excuses whenever they lose.

After all these years of playing the game, I have quit and only go to the official website to see what is new. But even then, the updates are slow and have nothing new besides new cash-related items.

Be wary of your character choice and the players around you.

I played this game when they used to only have 5 characters and now that Im back years later I cannot believe how nerfed this game has become.

+You can select any character from the start
+Many gameplay mechanics are still in place that keep to the sidescroller action
+Armor designs are still pretty awsome(only after hitting lvl 20)
+A guild system
+Theres more dungeons and bosses including event dungeons
+A larger character roster of 20 characters to chose from

-Your limited to selecting 4 out of 20 Characters and you cannot delete them to chose another, you can get free slots but only in certain events which dont happen often, otherwise you must pay for them which is 10$ per slot so if you wanted to play all 20 of them in dungeons thatll be 160$ please
-They added a new gacha machine which nobody is even going to bother with, if you like gambling save that money go to vegas
-Many of the outfits you pay real money for look ridiculous to the point were some apparal doesnt even look attached to your character.
-As others have already said Pvp is about stats not skills
-Early dungeons are many and too easy, theres no benifit to playing those dungeons with other people considering its tutorial lvl difficulty making the game boring even at lvl 35+ so any arcade like difficulty is dead and gone.
-Some skill trees require REAL MONEY to unlock.
-Theres no Xbox 360 controller support so expect your triggers, Right thumb stick, and d-pad to be totally useless and with the expanded skill tree and skill bar means youll have to give up some bindings.

Overall Grand Chase has lost alot of its faithful fanbase due to its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nerfing and new stats system to win pvp, if you wanted a challenging arcade side scroller its not here.

Most new characters are playable, but the biggest dissapointment is you have to be a cash player to make an awesome character. some skills are also need some cash to unlock. Not the type of game I would play.

Grand Chase was a good game, was, season 3 and 4 was its peak, but I don't think I will continue to play this... maybe it's the time for shut down... since you could only enjoy the game fully if you got the wallet, paywall makes ppl cry... they made me broke to tears, but it was long ago, now it's worse, ok let's say the paywall is not that bad... but long time ago.. you could PLAY EVERY CHARACTER WITHOUT SPENDING ANY real life money.... you must however, unlock them by doing overly long mission, but the point is, you could unlock them, somehow.... without spending any munny, now, it is different... while you can initially choose any character for free... you got 4 slots for this... after that, you'd need to spend your wallet on buying the extra slot... also did I said the character you've picked can't be undone? yep. more minus... I, however, do respect ppl who still going to play this despite the said reason, wholeheartedly, and without any sarcasm... but I think I'm too old for this kind of joke of a should-be-released-as-mobile game, just hope season 6 will come and done with less expensive way to enjoy this (Oh what am I talking about)

No controller support of any kind, doesn't support widescreen modes at all and this game has turned into nothing but a cash grab since you now have to fork out 990 K-Ching per character slot (roughly $10 per slot) which isn't how it originally was and it never was meant to turn into an Elsword clone which is what it is turning into now.

New accounts are stuck with only the option to create 4 characters and you can't even delete them either.

So avoid this game that was once a good game before Kill3rCombo got a hold of it.

I'll add that the controller support and widescreen support has always been a problem with Grand Chase ever since it first released back in the Netreev day's.

I used to play this game everyday a couple of years ago. I look back and I can say that I've spent more than $200 dollers and +1000 hours on this game. It is so fun and addicting. When it finally came to Steam, I quickly downloaded it again and played it for a minute or two and it reminded me of all the good times that I had with this game. This game isn't for everyone but it's worth checking out if you like 2-D fantasy games.

I liked ~Rebirth~ but since Season V came out I didn't like it that much because you can ONLY play 4 charas WITHOUT spending real-life money.
But I'll start again even though I need to create 5 Accs for playing all charas.
To those who enjoy RPGs would like it but those who don't want to create 5 Accs for playing all charas won't enjoy it, since you've to play all over again (if you started to play it before Season V came out).
You'll probably lose your interest pretty fast.

First of all. Grand Chase (GC as we call) was the only MMORPG game which I had a long and real fun while playing.
I'm a beta player, where we only had, Elesis, Lire, Arme and then Ronan / Lass.

A lot of things happened in GC, the company sold the game, then tried to buy it back, and so-so. The game faced a lot of time to get closed as well.. Now what, more than %70 of the old players left the game, just because they are doing it everytime. Paying for GC is ok, it's fine, and worth it but losing your lots of items after per company change is harmful. We had memories in this game, we even kept items those were meaning a lot, or left us the imagines of old tough boss rushes we have done with our lovely friends. But it's really tiring how the game everytime does that..

I don't know, I can't say I played it after steam release, and I would definately start from the beginning once again if I could trust.. We even had a promised Europe server coming and we all were happy with that until the day it cancelled.

I don't know. Maybe I will start over, but what's the reason of it anyway? Try it out yourself, since it's free. The gameplay is fun I promise for that, but what is important in the game is, playerbase. If the playerbase is fine this time, I would definately start over.

I have been playing this game for a long time now, and while I can say it is very different from when the game was in it's earlier stages/seasons, it still, at least for me has that certain charm that makes the game so appealing.

Basically this game is a side-scroller, like certain MMOs, but it has 3D models, the battle system is basically keyboard based (Which for me and some people is a plus) and has a plethora of characters to choose from. I think I believe it is now at 20. Most of the characters has 4 jobs, however for at least half of the characters the jobs are just expansions of the characters initial job. The characters can be classified as MP (mana bar based, fills as you attack and only 4 skill buttons), AP (like a mana bar but has fills up on it's own and has 5 skills buttons) and AMP (Which is AP style with a mana bar). The MP characters have 4 jobs that you can switch between just by equiping a different weapon type (which is reflective off what job they are in). The AP and AMP characters only use one weapon, but their higher jobs add on to their skill tree.

Skill trees are like in any other game which when you level up you get a certain amount of points to assign certain skills, the MP characters only have a full skill tree in the first job, and the other characters skill trees basically expand when they acquire more jobs.

Speaking of characters, as of the most recent season you get 4 free character slots, with these slots you can pick any characters you want to play as. Before you had to start off with the Knight (Elesis), the Archer (Lire) the Mage (Arme) and the Pheonix (Rin), but you could unlock the others. Now You get to pick whatever 4 but to unlock more characters you got to pay for more slots, OR wait for an event where you get free character slots.

Some people get off put by the fact that there is an cash shop but its not that big of a problem. There are plenty of ways to get the highest stats without using cash at any point. Cash just helps you get them easier and has some "exclusive" stuff to them such as certain pets and armor.

In this game you can have pets that help you in battle. The free pets must be found via manuals that drop in dungeons during champion mode or during events. The cash pets while are cool, sometimes are weaker than the free pets.

There is a PVP mode, which is better now that you can customize the rules of your room. But I don't really like to play PvP that much as I am more of a dungeoner.

Only dunegons no world map that you can travel.

There is no trade system, Could be seen as bad, but It makes your items rarer (to a certain degree) and more worth while and no need to worry about losing items to people who would trade everything away.

Overall this game is a fun game, especially when you have people to play with you, The characters all have distinct styles and the gameplay is simple, yet can have depth in the moves, especially with there being advanced stuff. Even though some people say that the game is too easy now, don't let that turn you away, try it out and make the judgement yourself. This game can be charming in its own way.

(Please note that this game is made by the same people who make Elsword, which is supposedly like it's spiritual successor, and while they have somethings in common, they play very differently, at least in my opinion.)

it used to be a good game. if you're a veteran in this game you will noticed if this game has changed alot into P2W game. i only recommend this game if you are an old player and already play on this server at least 1 year. but if you're a new player on this game / server like me, who used to be an old player on GCID, i don't really recommed it. unless you're ready for spend more money to this game or just for fun. you can still have fun with this game, because you can still win this game without spent any money. but it will be harder to win it than before season V. so it's your choose.

For people who 'Tl;Dr'. If not, continue on to the main part.

Fun with friends
Fun enemies and bosses
Unique Skill Tree for each character
Easy to get the hang of
Various Characters

Getting new characters mainly requires K-Ching (irl currency in-game)
Can have monsterous lag/stuttering
Semi-toxic playerbase as of now
EXTREMELY grindy late game.
Bad PvP balancing and hit detection

I've played 150 hours (as told by Raptr's game tracker) at the very least, over multiple seasons this game has went through, so I know a fairly decent amount of stuff about this game. Now, I cannot really recommend this game 100% because of some of the problems with this game. I've been a player on Grand Chase well before it ever became an idea to come to Steam, and it was a fairly fun game: Decent community (but has dwindled now), fun and interesting enemies and areas to play, a *cough* good story, and always trying to come up with new ideas for an event dungeon (It might still be doing the bullet-hell-esque dungeon when I'm posting this). This game also has changed drastically for the worse: Characters now have to be bought unless an event gives away an unlock token/slot (each cost 10 or 15 [your currency], forgot the exact pricing), PvP is really unplayable for the most part, and lots of lag/stuttering every where it seems. Also, despite what people want to say, this game isn't unfairly p2w, but can give you some advantages here and there.

Then there is the MMO portion of it with the leveling up, changing armor, etc., that is kind of fun to do early on, however when you're trying to max out (Lvl 85) on 19 characters because there isn't really much content for a character AFTER getting to that level, it can get tedious and extremely grindy. The bright side of this is that each character is different enough to where you feel like you aren't playing as a copy and pasted character, especially with the Skill Tree system they have. Most of the characters have 4 jobs that change their skills and can change their skill tree, throwing in various different styles of play for each character.

If you're looking for a game to play with your friends and have a decently fun time, I would recommend this, but as a game to invest a lot of time, and I mean 100+ hours, not really worth it. I still find myself having fun on it from time to time, but not much anymore. Since this isn't a review of every little thing in the game, play it for yourself and determine if you like it or not, but this was my feelings on this game.

I used to play this game around right when Amy was released.

It was amazing, but after downloading it and playing it for less than ten minutes, it's just not the same game I fell in love with so many years ago. Elsword more closely matches the gameplay I've been craving. Grand Chase seems too different now.

Also, being able to start at such a high level kind of ruins the experience for me.
