About This Game

(This game was already launched last year on Desura and Gamersgate with the name "Dungeon Gate".)

There is no better disguise than to look exactly like your enemies! Dysan: The Shapeshifter is a RPG that gives the opportunity to the player to assume the form and abilities of all creatures he encounters along his journey. This in order to have clear advantages in battles and ultimately complete the game successfully.

Imagine approaching a horde of mummies, giant scarabs, slimes or any opponents of the game then shapeshifting, put yourself directly in the center of the group and passes unnoticed as one of thereof. As your energy allows you, you can use their special abilities, powers and weapons. This unique way of playing will delight the whole gamer’s community.

The game Dysan: The Shapeshifter does not offer the player to select a class, but instead to train the abilities of enemies he takes form from. This game mechanic offers a huge deal of skills, weapons and special powers.

In addition, Dysan: The Shapeshifter offers the player an “old school vibe” experience. It is reflected in the way the map is built and how the player interacts with it; on how the fight mechanic is designed and how the art direction has been thought.

• RPG / Adventure game
• Huge open world to explore and a variety of dungeons with traps, puzzles and exciting fighting challenges
• More than 30 characters to drain and to make evolve
• Ability to make evolve each character to 30th level.
• Over 25 hours of gameplay

To hell with being polite:
If Satan himself was asked to create a game - this would be it.

It's horrible in every conceivable way. Please for the love of your particular deity *do not* spend money on this trash.

I got this for free, and now I wish there was a way to remove it permanently from my steam library, hiding it isn't enough.

- Its broken combat is torture to watch
- Its 'save' system is infuriating.
- Shapeshifting? Pointless when basic combat mechanics inspire nausea.
- Artstyle is inconsistant and just plain ugly. Graphics isn't everything, but basic artistic cohesion is mandatory in any game.
- Quest tracking doesn't help at all - it's just an arrow above your minimap, could just as well be removed altogether. If this is what they mean by “old school vibe”, then they're better off sticking with the "newer school" conventions.
- Story? Doesn't make a drop of sense, like LSD-induced psychosis - it makes perfect sense to the addict, but to no one else.
- Sound assets? Turned it off 1 hour into the game.
- The description on the store page is *hilarious* - the same salespitch you'd get from a sleezy second-hand car salesman

As with Wild Games Studio's other masterpiece (Garry's Incident), this game had an interesting idea (shape-shifting into enemies) and executed it so badly that I would have to be paid a large amount of money to suffer through it again.

To quote AngryJoe's description used for Ride to Hell:
"It's functional garbage"
"Gameplay functions, but its only function is to hurt your soul"

The above two statements summarizes accurately this horrible piece of software, one of the worst ever coded.

Avoid it like the plague.

I have taken poops which have left me with more pleasure than playing this game. Everything from how you control and cast spells, to understanding the story is just done bad.

The Ai is stupid, and will annoy you rather than give you the fight your looking for. Very poor interface leading to running to areas you have already been in hopes of finding quest givers as finding such is a chore. The controls in moving are clunky and unfun to play.

The very fact that you can shapeshift is cool, but it has no weight in the world, if you change into a female and run up to a townie he will talk and greet you as if you are in your original male forum.

Not to mention the world is just so darn ugly, it makes me want to change a babies diaper for more colorful scenery.

This game is not worth any money no matter how much it is on sale.

A generic, bland, uninspired, clunky and technically subpar RPG game from the *gasp* makers of Day One: Garry's Incident.
You are Dysan,a shapeshifter who can do this cause, well it's not really embark on a quest because, not really explained either.

-the DNA/shapeshifting idea isn't bad,on paper.

-the soundtrack overall isn't TOO horrible.

-the shapeshifting idea is neat, but ultimately useless apart from the rat (to solve quests) and horse (cause it's bugged I guess? so every enemy ignores you, even if you shift in front of their eyes). I basically played the whole game without using any shapeshifting.

-graphics are bland, blurry, the LOD is seriously awful, models are bad.

-combat sounds are meh, music isn't too bad but there's little variation, also the combat music starts even if you take damage by falling.

-animations are awful, clunky, some skip altogether, jumping is BAD,it'll make jumping puzzles frustrating as hell.

-controls are awful, totally awful, clunky, unresponsive, have fun hammering that spell key 5 times before it finally decides to cast.

-combat is boring when it works (face enemy, smash keyboard hoping it registers),frustrating when it doesn't work. A little elevation will prevent you from hitting enemies, they also get stuck often.

-game balance is pretty bad, most fights are a breeze,a few enemies are too strong overall, stun abilities have a long duration, boss fights are best faced by running around, dodge their attack, cast a spell and then run around some more (waiting for mana) until you can cast again, boring.

-what little story is there makes little to no sense, most stuff isn't really explained, the characters are very vague, their actions make no sense at all.

-woeful game design, unfinished menu, little in the way of tutorials, the load menu doesnt exist,it's an ingame area where you choose a portal bearing the savegame date/time (WHY? WHO thought this was a good idea?). Also,date/time are often hard to read,so good luck loading the right save.

Stay away from this,it has no redeeming qualities.

I got this game not reading the reviews and knowing about the problems. I got the game, opened it up, and it was 20 different colors and I could not see anything. I saw the reviews, then contacted Steam. Steam sent me to another email (the developers email) and I never got a reply. That was 5 months ago. Now I have to resend an email for a refund. But I learned to read the reviews before I get a game.
UPDATE: This game should be made early access for its lack to be normal and not look like a piece of crap at boot up.

When you launch the game there's a window to choose the resolution, no matter what you choose the game will overide your selection (1600x900 windowed in my case) and go by the defaults (1920x1080 full screen).

Once inside the game you will notice there's no Options menu at all (just "New game", "Continue", "Credits" and "Quit"*).

When you choose "New game" and the intro starts, there is no way to skip it, so you will have plenty of time to see the poor models and awful textures.

Once you finally get control of your character and try to move, you will think the game is running at something around 15 frames per second, but it's actually the jerky movement animations of your character. Even games from the mid 90s had better model animations, back when the whole 3D thing was new.

Once you try to get out of your house (starting point) you'll notice loading times are higher than most AAA games. Skyrim with a bunch of mods loaded faster for me.

Can't talk a lot about the actual mechanics of the game or the story, but the little I saw was not promising.

Devs should provide a minimum quality before selling their (finished) game.

As I was going to post the review I saw the game is from the same devs as "Day One: Garry's Incident", one of the most infamous games on Steam. !! DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME !!.

Dysan the Shapeshifter (aka Dungeon Gate) is an open-world RPG set in a dull fantasy world with dull characters and a dull story. It fails in almost every regard except that it has a great soundtrack and great ideas behind shapeshifting.

Graphically, the game looks like ♥♥♥♥. There is nothing good about it. Horrible character models roam around horribly textured environments with a bland art style, giving out unoriginal side quests.

Gameplay is a mixed bag of RPG elements and clunky hack & slash combat. Interaction with characters are limited to a wall of text. The RPG elements are very unoriginal and executed quite poorly. The combat is slow, clunky, and a tedious waste of time.

Sound design is dreadful. The game makes no effort to make the player feel immersed in this world. The sound of a woman in need of help or the gentle pitter patter of your feet hitting the dirt walkway is done in a very amateur way.

The story is dull. The opening cutscene takes about 10 minutes and it is about an old man, with poor animation quality, that walks very slowly to do something that isn't explained. Other than that, the protagonist pops up in some random ♥♥♥ town. (I cant comment on the rest of the story because this game is too bad to finish).

Finally to the good stuff. The soundtrack is surprisingly great. It features many upbeat, melancholy, and emotional songs that is masterfully woven into the game. And the gameplay (and story) ideas about shapeshifting are integrated well.

Additional Thoughts: This game is poorly optimized. I have surpassed the recommended system specs and still get 20 fps on Low settings.

Final Thoughts: Broken piece of trash that has abysmal graphics, sound, pacing, story, characters, world design, optimization, clunky and reptitive combat, and horrible presentation. The only good thing this game has is a great soundtrack and an okay idea behind shapeshifting. AVOID THIS GAME LIKE THE PLAGUE EVEN IF YOU GOT IT FOR FREE!!!!

Avoid this game at all costs. The gameplay is terrible. Fighting mechanics are lost in the great void of nothingness. The story does little to no sense at all, just as does the first quest the game throws at you: "Find a rabbit. To do that speak to a scientist, find a dying chicken and bring it back to the forementioned scientist. Then pull the rabbit out of a cage that is next to the scientist and bring it back to a peasant". Seems legit. The only thing I liked about this game was the "skill tree" potential that got killed by the entire game. Also, the after-death-save-loading-thingy was neat. A nice reference to some of the older games, like Fable (if I am not wrong). 2/10

Promised hundreds, if not thousands of free keys if we supported the game. WHen the game was launched, nothing. Also, the game is medicore, but the fact that the devs lied to us make me a give a game that i would usually give a positive rating a negative one.

I'll start by saying, do not buy this game at is current state, 9,99€ is way overpriced at least at the moment.

The game is really pretty taking out some design flaws, the main reason i do not recommend this game at the current state is really simple: The controls are not fastly responsive.

So if you hit the ''A'' key to go left, the delay is quite big, if a patch is launched to fix the delay issues this really might be a good game, but like this it turns out really hard to play.

Dysan the Shapeshifter is a good candidate for worst western RPG of all time. Its combat mechanics are weak, its shapeshifting gimmick is barely used, there's no discernable story, and the quests are boring "kill X of this enemy" tasks. The best I can say about it is that some of the graphical glitches are kinda funny. Yep, the best part of the game is not even supposed to happen.

The good: The player character looks kinda like Tomoko Kuroki.
The bad: There's no fame mechanic, so you can't become popular.

This game has major performance problems and seems to have bugs as well. It belongs in the "Early Access" category, except that I doubt that any improvements will be made to it. To test subjective game performance I normaly set games to full native screen resolution and set the graphics quality to "medium". This game is very very sluggish to respond even under these modest settings, to the point where the game is unplayable. To make things worse the graphics are bad (many of the character models are exact clones of each other) and the game seems to have bugs plus poor user experience design. Luckily I got this one as part of a large bundle for almost nothing.

Stay away from this one! It's not even worth downloading for free.

Not even worth 9.99 Euro
I spent my 20 minutes on the cutscene only
the game will stop if you alt-tab in the cutscene
the game doesn't have a button to skip the cut scene
Basically DON'T BUY This Game

Sorry, but this is the worst RPG-game on Steam I´ve ever played so far -_-

First of all it´s based on the Unity-Engine which is used to develop games like "Slender: The Eight Pages", "Anna" and the really crappy platformer "Woodle Tree Adventures". Not my favorite engine, but it can be beautiful although it´s very primitive (most of the games use only a few buttons, like walking and left click). So it isn´t appropriate for a RPG -.-

Ok, here are the flaws I found ;)

- Movement Animations are clunky & crappy
- repetitive & sometimes unresponding combat system
- stupid enemy AI, have fun pulling the whole world while exploring =D
- Dull story, doesn´t got my attention
- boring world design, awful textures and poor character modeling/animations
- Lags straight outta hell, including performance issues and long loading times
- confusing load-game screen o.O
- 10€ ? Seriously ? For an unfinished and not optimized "Early Access Game" at best. It´s not even worth for free

Positive aspects, at least:

- Great idea of shapeshifting into all kinds of enemies, including extra skill trees
- Soundtrack is good and fits

Just don´t even consider trying this shiddy game.

This game is terrible. It starts with a very foreseeable plot and ends with terrible plot. Next to making the Maincharackter looking like a deformed Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z with terrible eyes and a haircut to flee from, the controls are so bad that they cant be used in the standard option. I had to rebind 4 times before anything happened and that I could do for every Quest I wanted to accept. This game is so terrible if I hadn't gotten it for free I would be frustrated and felt ripped off. Pls do not buy this so this horrible Company can make more horrible games. PLEASE

Wow. Could not stand to play this for more than 5 minutes, literally. Game mechanics are woefully disconnected. The game nearly crashed three times when trying to load scenes (would flip back to desktop). Less optimized than Saints Row 2. Don't even bother wasting bandwith with this one.

I don't usually give bad reviews as it is everyones opinion as to how a game is, but I had to write this....I got this in an indie bundle, so I did not pay full price. THIS GAME IS BROKEN!!! The colours are all over the place. When I fired up the game I thought I was in some trippy 60's RPG, but every now and again the colour was okay? Then the game started and I could not make out what was going on, the screen was blue and black! Check the forums there are more of us!! There is no way to quit out of the game even if you crtl, alt delete it drags you back in....Yes there is no way to quit!!!!!! Pllease don't buy this until the devs have sorted the problems out....but they are probably still sulking about Day one....Yes they wrote that as well, so don't hold your breath! Sorry Steam this is utter garbage!!

I do not recommend getting this game. Firstly the character models are bland and the environment uninteresting. Then there are the controls which are buggy, as are the mechanics for picking up items. The thing that really killed it was that the game crashed with an unhelpful error message when I tried to save.
